Coaching carousel....

ESPN: "The Glazer family also conducted a massive amount of research, reaching out to various NFL people. One of the people they called was Patriots head coach Bill Belichick, who spoke highly of Schiano."

Belichick is a stand-up kind of guy who would recommend someone he thought he could beat.

Belichick doesn´t play the Bucs all that often

Obviously. But my point was I wouldn't ask a guy that cares so little for his profession that he cheats. Of course, he was rewarded for that, so maybe he's got that going for him.

God knows, maybe he honestly is friends with the Glazers? Both Belichick and the Glazers are evil bastards.

bump. I thought we might as well resurrect this thread for the Arky coaching search....

Early names:

Garrick McGee
Jon Gurden (doubtful)
Gus Malzahn
Skip Holtz
Chris Petersen (another doubtful)
Tommy Tuberville
Dave Wannstedt

This will be a tough one for the Hogs to fill. My guess is they have an interim for '12 like the Buckeyes and fill the job this December/January

I almost want to register at Hogville to suggest Dan Hawkins....must. resist.

If I was a hog fan, I would be ready to throw myself off of a bridge. They had a national title contending team returning next year, and that has just been been obliterated by an oncoming train.

My pops went to Arky, and until I came to CU, I was an Arky fan...I guess I still am at some level, this has been a real let down for HogNation, I can assure you.

I told my dad when they got Petrino, this would not end well...I never dreamed it would end with a Harley handjob (allegedly), I figured Petrino would stay for a few years and go to some other job for more $$$$.

Art Briles being mentioned...that makes a lot of sense. Can recruit TX and a solid HC.

Briles has no issues jumping if the right offer's on the table. It's not like he has another RG3 in his recruiting back pocket, so he may need to leverage his recent success for all it's worth.

yup. I'm surprised he hasn't jumped yet. Guess he didn't like the idea of ATM.

Bet Bobby P. does.
Solid.

Rumor is that Jon Gruden has been offered the Arky gig...

AD Jeff Long is playing this one VERY close to the vest. Supposedly he wants a new HC right away, and does not want to go the interim route, does not want anyone on the current staff (at least as HC), although Gerrick McGee, last year's OC and now HC at UAB remains a candidate, although probably a fall back candidate.

Other possibilities, Briles, GPatterson, Gus Malzahn, well just about every name imaginable. We'll see....

So you're saying that it will be HaLkins.

Briles would be the perfect hire for them. He's dirty enough to win, but clean enough to be seen as an improvement over Petrino. He'd do well there. On top of that, you have to figure that the clock is ticking at Bailer. That's a house of cards that is ready to collapse at any time, IMO.

the sec isn't the same without fulmer! bring him back!

is jackie sherril still alive?

the sec believes if you are going to cheat, cheat big!

you know who else might be good? jim tressel!

I really thought Briles would leave Bailer the same time RGIII did. He caught lightening in a bottle on that one. If Arky calls he should take it and never look back....

The time to leave is before the skeletons surface. In Bailer Athletics' case, there has been an actual skeleton.

Saw a poll over on philsteele.com about coaching hotseats. Here was the list of contenders from BCS schools. It got me thinking, what would it take for each of these guys to get fired at the end of the season?

  • John L Smith (Arkansas)
  • Derek Dooley (Tennessee)
  • Joker Phillips (Kentucky)
  • Frank Spaziani (BC)
  • Mike Riley (Oregon St)
  • Kirk Ferentz (Iowa)
  • Randy Edsall (Maryland)
  • Tommy Tuberville (TTU)
  • Jeff Tedford (Cal)
  • David Cutliff (Duke)
  • Brian Kelley (ND)
