This is not a bad idea at all.

He's saying to hire Stitt as OC and QB Coach (this assumes that Scherer is back to the NFL after this season - a good assumption).

Here's some background on Stitt:

13th Season as HC at Mines
Career record: 90-56
Previous OC experience: Doane College, Austin College, Harvard University

Here's a good article about him that highlights how Dana Holgerson and Mike Leach have relied on Stitt for offensive innovations: http://businessofcollegesports.com/...d-the-colorado-school-of-mines-football-team/

If we are going to keep Embree around, count me as 100% in favor of hiring Stitt to run the offense. Now, we just need to find an innovator to run the defense.

P.S. Woody is often used as a mouthpiece for the AD on big issues. I don't think it's coincidence that this article comes out the morning after Bohn made comments about changes for the program.

I read that article this morning and I must admit that Paige is dead on here. We cant afford a big name hire, nor would a big name come here right now. Bohn and Embo want to save face. Bienemy can play to his strengths- RB, game day fire and recruiting. Rip has options. Our ONLY chance for a few years is to out-scheme and to date we cant do that two plays in a row.

While its an intriguing idea, its a doubtful outcome, imo.

I have no idea what the head football coach at Colorado School of Mines makes in pay, but I would venture a guess it is at or near what Eric Bieniemy is currently receiving as Colorado's offensive (and I mean that literally) coordinator. (Bieniemy's salary is $425,000 - which will be quite a bit for a running back's coach).

But aside from the pay, would Mr. Stitt give up his position as head coach at Mines (a job he has had for 14 years now) to take what is very likely a one (1) year job at Colorado?? That seems a pretty risky move, with little reward.

1) I don't think demoting Bieniemy is an option. Making a ton of money to be the OC, is he going to accept a pay cut from $425k to $70k to coach the running backs? He already has a multi year contract. Best to just fire him and be done.
2) Like Slade said, Embree is dead man walking, I don't see anyone wanting to come to CU for a 1 season job.

Embo directs/shares part of his salary to Bienemy. $425k is more than Bienemy will ever make again as a coordinator! Stitt may not have an interest, but he would have to see the potential. If he could right this trainwreck a BCS HC position here or elsewhere is waiting. His story is like the football version of Tad Boyle.

ummm.... inventing one play aint enough for me. sounds like he's got a complete offense though. I'm not convinced. yet.

Except that Tad Boyle went from being a head coach at UNC to being the head coach at CU.

Stitt would go from being head coach at Mines to being OC at CU, with the very real possibility that one year from now he's looking for another job elsewhere. Just not sure it's worth it for an offensive coordinator position. He's been at Mines for more than a decade now. Giving up a long term job with excellent job security to be a coordinator at a school where the head coach is likely to be fired in a year is a pretty serious gamble.

A RB coach makes about $200k.

Stitt can't be making much. Mines' recruiting budget, for example, is under $50k per year. They're tiny.

Here's a great article from the past week on Stitt from USA Today: http://www.usatoday.com/story/sport...ol-of-mines-college-football-offense/1659819/

As long as wide-open, spread offenses continue to score points and sell tickets, college football will remain a place where undiscovered talent can turn into overnight stardom. And if you set out to discover who that next innovator might be, you'll invariably be led to a tiny engineering school nestled in the Rocky Mountain foothills where Stitt, 48, has built a consistent winner and done things offensively that programs like West Virginia, Texas A&M, Louisiana Tech and Cincinnati have borrowed.

"It's hard to flip through the channels on a Saturday and not see his influence some place," said Hal Mumme, who came from a small college background and shocked the SEC with his Kentucky "Air Raid" offense in the late 1990s. "He's a really bright guy, and people are becoming aware of what he's doing. I promise you, he's going to get a big job somewhere. He's going to get his chance if he wants it."

Stitt says he'd be willing to move up as an offensive coordinator, but only if the head coach would give him total offensive control.

If it is for the rest of this season (and assuming Bohn can't fire Embree until end of next season), then one more season too, I am all for it. He has HC experience (something none of our other coaches have at any level), must be innovative enough on offense to score the points he has and to attract attention from BCS HCs.

It would be a risk for him to do it, but at the same time, he is starting with an inept offense so he is surely going to show improvement which would improve his changes to move up in the coaching ranks if he desires it. Who knows, with a a new OC and DC maybe JE could pull it off-not convinced though.

But I would support this move if it were to happen!

I'd be for it, but I still don't see how Bieniemy is demoted to RB coach only. That's a lot of money

Not a huge deal, but you may want to double check this information.

What is Embree's relationship with Mr. Stitt? Are they friendly? Given the way Embree has handled Bieniemy with kid-gloves the past two years, I would think it would take a lot of humility to allow a total stranger to come in and run your offense.

If Bohn is serious about asserting himself in this situation, this could happen. Like some of the other posters, I've never really paid much attention to what's happening at Mines, but I'm intrigued at this point.

Those of you saying stitt wouldn't come here for a 1 year deal, let me suggest something. Stitt comes in installs his offense. We see improvement in the offense, but not enough improvement in the win loss respect to save Embree. Stitt I think would be at the front of the line for the HC job. He is not a CU guy, but he is a Colorado guy which I like. He knows how to recruit and build a team at a university with high academic standards. Get the offense installed next year and then hand the team over to him the next year. Kinda like a Dana Holgerson type move.

Will Stitt make 'em faster, stronger and quicker? Because unless he can do that, he has no shot.

Think the response will be that he'd put them in positions to at least beat the CSUs and Sac States of the world, and show a bit more competence against other conference competition. This improvement will position us to get the faster and stronger recruits who will be attracted to a program on the rise.

also its Malcom's job to get them faster stronger and quicker

Spot on.

Embree & CO have failed in recruiting. We need a complete coaching change. Every member of the current staff needs to go and Bohn needs to hire a nationally known coach that will be able to convince top talent to come here. I don't know if Stritt has the name recognition that we need to improve recruiting at a national level.

I would have to see his offense but anyone who comes with the word innovative in his resume sounds good to me.

I'm still not sure we have the position players to run any kind of offense consistently with the big boys yet but we should be able to beat the CSU and Sac St.'s of the world to get to 3 or 4 wins next year with some better play calling.

I call BS on this one. First of all history, including recent history in the Pac 12, is full of good coaches turning average talent into winners.

Secondly, our offense next year has plenty of physical assets and skills to be good w/ the right system and coach in place. Dillon, PRich back, G. Thomas, V. Hobbs, some good possession receivers, good enough line (with the right OL coach), to compete immediately.

The problem is, now that Paige has suggested it, it can never happen. It is a rule somewhere.

I think the fact that the players are so confused on their assignments play a big part of that.

Confused is the right problem. The Stanford game is looked like a contest between a football team and some gym and track rats with pads on. No more so than in the secondary. Go back and look at the rushing touchdown Standfurd scored in the beginning of the 2nd. Furd lined un in a big formation and pulled right. Both safeties ran un and buried their heads in the pile allowing the rb to go untouched.

They should clean house, every coach should be let go. The first two to go should be EB and Greg Brown. The program needs to make a strong statement that being the worst defense in the country in terms of points allowed is not acceptable.

To me this guy has Chip Kelly written all over him. He sounds like he just needs a one year audition to prove to himself that his offense will work in D-I. We will most likely only win a few more games with him leading to Embree's firing anyways.

It could backfire though. We get good and start winning, then we extend Embree for 5 more years. Then Stitt leaves to coach at a mega school and in the end we're stuck with Embree again.

For that reason, I would just like to see Embree fired and hire a defensive coach(Diaco) who would bring in Stitt as the OC and give him full control.

A Diaco and Stitt combination definitely intrigues me.
Diaco seems like a 1 year wonder to me. Were his defenses at Cincy any good? He was under quite a bit of heat a couple years ago from Irish fans. And the whole zen thing scares me off.

Right. Stay the current course? Whatevs robo Darth. Whatevs.

My point being its all on the table this time. I'd take anyone at this point.

Honestly I don't know, but he's got one of the best defenses in the nation at a big time program with an admin and fanbase that has very little patience so the pressure is enormous - if he can get it done there that says a lot IMO.

Actually, what's Bohns relationship? Thinking Boyle from UNC, Sanchez from Wyoming, talk of Calhoun from AFA, and now talk of Stitts from Mines...? I see a pattern alright. A local/regional one. Which makes some sense since Bohn is more likely to have actually met some of these guys. But it implies another hire done on the cheap (unless it works this time).

The real question is would Embree accept Stitts? Would Stitts come? How much say would Stitts have.

Personally, I prefer we find someone from a strong and established coaching tree.
