Reported Offers: Colorado, Boise State, Cal, Hawaii, Idaho, Nevada, San Diego State, San Jose State, TCU, USC, Utah

Committed to Boise State in June. CU recently offered.

Hoping he's not 100% solid, because he sounds like a guy who can make plays.

Battle at the Beach Top Performers (Rivals):

2. WR SHAY FIELDS, BELLFLOWER (CALIF.) ST. JOHN BOSCO

Boise State is getting a serious steal in Fields, who has the pass-catching ability and game-breaking athleticism to contribute in the Pac-12. Fields' best catch of the day came late against Mater Dei, when he took an intermediate pass and made a slick move to get by two defenders without getting touched. Numerous times, he broke deep for long receptions that led to touchdowns.

B2G Elite Camp Top Performers (247s)
:

8. Shay Fields, WR, Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco -
An undersized receiver, Fields was outstanding all weekend. He showed the ability to get behind the defensive backfield on deeper routes from a speed perspective but where he really excels is getting in and out of his routes and creating separation. A Boise State commit, don't be surprised if Fields becomes a very productive college target.

I was hoping we'd offer this kid. He seemed to tear it up all summer at camps and will definitely put up some numbers playing for St. John Bosco with Josh Rosen throwing to him.

Clearly the key here is to just get him to visit and then Boise will be forced to withdraw their offer with extreme prejudice.

I don't have a 247 subscription, but I've been told by someone who does that the #8 ranking at that came was after day 1 and when they reranked after day 2, he was the top offensive performer at the camp and #2 overall. He's dinged in the ratings because of his size mainly, but the kid can ball.

Hope he remains firm to Boise State obviously.

Fields and Lee would absolutely change the makeup of the offense if we were somehow able to land both.

That could work to our advantage. Not sure that Troy would sign him and it's definitely the type of offer that has to make a guy think he should take a few visits.

It's possible. Hard to say for sure. Every kid thinks differently. I do think if USC has offered, and the offer is listed on the profile, then it is a firm offer. Schools who offer and then drop a kid when a better prospect comes along would quickly get a bad reputation with their important high school pipelines.

Obviously I hope he sticks with Boise State as he's been tearing it up this year, but you never know in the recruiting game.

Does Rivals validate offers before listing them or are they just self-reported. Also, lol at SC having recruiting morality.

Don't schools routinely give written offers? If so, wouldn't a site be able to "validate" an offer if the recruit provides said written offer?

Yeah, but it's not like any of the recruiting sites ask to see written offers. They generally report them based on the player (or maybe his coach) saying it in an interview or tweeting it.

Why can't more recruits be like Tate Forcier? It would make life so much more simple.

As much as I'd like to think this one is a done deal as a Boise State fan, I think there's still a bit of wiggle room that Fields is leaving himself.

"Right now" is a bit of an ominous phrasing. Theory from the Boise State side of things is that Fields is taking a wait and see approach on who USC ends up hiring as their new head coach. Should be a great atmosphere this weekend for our home game and nice weather is predicted, but I think Fields still needs a bit more firming up from our end of things.

Glad to see that, for the moment at least, Fields is still in our column but I don't think the final buzzer has sounded quite yet here.

Sound like CU is definitely out then.
