This is exactly how Tad Boyle said he turned around CU bball. How are we doing in fball?

If Purdue and Cal are getting better athletes, we're doing it wrong.

Cal: 57; 10 commits
Colorado: 67; 15 commits
Purdue: 77; 10 commits

If Purdue was at 15, they would be ranked higher than us

Hard to say. Much more difficult in football. In basketball one or two players can change an entire team outlook.

I do think that our recruiting is better than it has been in recent years but these guys don't look like the kind of players who will win you a confernce championship.

The good news is that this staff seems to have a pretty good eye for talent. Guys like Gillam, Chido, etc. give us hope for the future. We have some commits who are not highly rated but who do have very high ceilings. Of course potential means that you haven't done it yet so we will have to wait to see.

This is not going to be an immediate process. The roster that M2 took over was bad. It isn't a question of filling some holes, it is about rebuilding an entire roster.

Basketball - one player can pull you way up. Colorado benefited greatly from Burks and Roberson going from lightly recruited to 1st rounders. I honestly don't remember Tad saying this, and if he did, I guess I don't really concur.

Seeing the late recruits we got last year such as Thompson, Awuzie, Olugbode, Adkins, etc gives me hope.

I see a lot of teams who've improved remarkably in recent times, and I see few of them (if any) who've had vastly improved recruiting rankings along the way.

Wake Forest and Washington are the only other BCS teams ranked below us. It's safe to assume Washington will finish considerably higher than us. We're digging an even deeper hole

Son of a. That's what I feared. I'm sure Virginia and NC State will outrank us too. Kentucky of course but they're SEC. They could go winless and lap us on the recruiting trail.

My bad Minnesota/Kansas are also below us, but with 6 and 5 less commits respectively.

We might be scratching and clawing to not have the worst recruiting class of all bcs schools

Yeah, we are ****ing terrible. we don't even deserve 3* recruits. We are sub MWC talent. Why the hell would a 4* or 5* recruit come here? I would question their judgment. At least Boyle had a facilities upgrade to support him.

It's a lot easier to "recruit above your record," in basketball as landing 1-2 really good recruits has a much bigger impact then doing the same in football

I don't even know if Tad recruited above his record anyways

Dinwiddie/Cain were solid commits. We were like a 14 win team the year prior, so yes that was a significant step (plus this was Boyle's words, not mine). We have 15 commits and about 10 of them are WAC level recruits. Pretty much the definition of recruiting below your record

It's far from a revelation that recruiting isn't going well. Curious if this week's bad recruiting post offers any solutions or just more belly-aching.

I have a slight problem with this thread. While I wish our recruiting was better. I think we hired the right football coach for the money we spent. IF we wanted to "recruit above your record" we need to throw $5MM at Charlie Strong. That would have brought in Athletes from the South and get you your Rivals ranking.

I also have an issue with the bashing of Mac in the game thread. Do ppl remember last year??.....JC!!! This team is better than last year for sure.

Gonna take time for a bowl game.....but I think we got the right guy. I think once we are on our feet he will stay a while.

Of course they were. Just saying one really good recruit in basketball can really change around a program.

In football you need a lot more then that unless that good player is Andrew Luck. Agree that our class doesn't appear to be very good for 2014, and that assumes the staff can hold on to the top 2-3 players. Have to hope they can pick up 4-5 JC kids that can come in right away and make an immediate impact, or it's hard to see how CU takes the next step next year.

Great example is Carson at ASU. Sendek was going to get fired if he hadn't signed him. Now he's looking like he has a team that will Dance.

We've got more than one coach on the recruiting trail though (even if it doesn't always feel that way). Are you saying this staff is built to recruit “above their record"? I have a feeling we'd see recruiting results in the lower third of the conference, even if we were an average team.
