Colorado - Stanford Game Thread

I'm surprised there isn't much talk about this game. It is absolutely huge. Win and a Tournament berth is locked up, lose and it puts us in a must win situation Saturday at Cal just to stay in the conversation. This is a huge test for Ski and XJ and Josh. They absolutely must show up tonight.

KenPom has Cal by seven, while Vegas has them favored by nine. I have a good feeling about this one. Why? I don't know. I guess I don't think another team is going to shoot 90% in the second half like the last two have done.

So were either going to win a close win or lose by double digits, right?

Thats pretty much our Modus Operandi in PAC-12 play, isn't it?
Well I'm an O's fan, so used to that from 2012 with the whole run differential thing.

Other than USC/UW(at home), we haven't really had any dominating wins. I think a game like Wazzu at home was closer on the scoreboard than it actually was though.

We are terrible on the road, so it isn't surprising that the line is so high and little interest in the game from fans. I hope our Buffs can show up for BOTH halves and maybe play defense in the 2nd half. That will make all the difference. If not, I can see us getting blown out by double digits again.

Neither Cal or Stanford games is must win IMO. Ideally, we would win one to get a top six seed before the Pac 12 tourney, but I don't see us winning either. I just hope we can win one game in the Pac12 tourney, that is a must win game.

Ski needs to show up for once on the road, his numbers are absolutely terrible the last three years for true road games. It is truly amazing. I can't think of ANY player in the Boyle era that is so much different home vs. road.

He needs to shoot > 40% for us to have a chance. I trust Scott to get 17/8, but XJ is a mystery just like Gordon. If neither one produces, we will get killed. If XJ and Gordon can combine for 20-25 points and 10-15 boards, I really like our chances.

I hope we can show up with some intensity. This game will be a lot easier than at Cal because the atmosphere will be dead at Maples, and that is much easier to play in for a visiting team.

If we play two complete halves and Boyle doesn't sit our starters if they pick up two quick fouls, I think we can win 70-67.

If we get one of our starters as a no show or Ski goes 5-17 again, we will get killed 80-63.

I predict somewhere in middle: 75 Furd - 70 Buffs

Prove me wrong Buffs!!

I used to think that too, but I don't anymore. Four consecutive losses would put us on the bad side of the bubble, and we'd end up facing someone like Utah in the first round of the Conference Tournament. No thank you.

The term "must win" is overused -- the importance of a single game outside of football tends to get overstated most of the time --- you have the right idea here. Neither is a must win right now in the sense if we don't win, we're done. If we win in the Pac-12 Tourney after losing these two games that should be enough but even if it isn't that first game and possibly the second one would become must wins. Now if we win either of the next two games it should give us at a minimum a little breathing room.
