Carrell was a 6'1" 220lb DE/LB coming out of high school and has grown while seeming to maintain his speed.

I'm not sure about the eligibility. Definitely a December grad, but I don't know if he has redshirted at ARC.

Rivals had a nice write-up in its JC Gridiron report back in July:

Carrell had a big season in 2013 when he totaled 30 tackles with 10 tackles-for-loss and four sacks, also recording four passes broken-up. At 6-foot-3 and 250 pounds he could also qualify as a weakside end, but still has room for growth. He has 4.75-speed and is on track to leave in December, and also plays a lot inside on film with a lethal first step. https://footballrecruiting.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1664512

Need a few of thes JUCO guys each cycle. Hope MM2 can win the recruiting battle AND the CU academic/administrative battle to get him in.

"They like my technique and the way I play. They just know that I can come contribute fast for their defense. They're young and they need a JC guy to come over and contribute."

Sounds like this young man verbally committed to the Buffs? If so, welcome!

Nice! I'll wait for confirmation before listing him as a commit, but I'm loving the JC recruiting this year.

Welcome.

Would be interested to see accurate measurements on this one

Edit: BTW rivals has him as a 3 to play 2

D Line depth is needed. Good get.
With two noteworthy exceptions, our JC recruiting is better this year than our standard recruiting. (my perception)

k st has always done better with jc's than standard recruiting...if we need to fill needs quick to be competitive...so be it!

I'm officially not worried about DL depth for the next 3 years. Now about the rest of our needs...

Now we just need a TE and a LB

This was a big one, though.

As someone pointed out on Rivals, Carrell grew from a LB, maintained good speed, and may fit in at DE. When you watch the film, he's very good at playing read option to his side. Really sets the edge well and pursues.

Absolutely no doubt I love this guy. He looks very explosive and I love that we are finally getting some Dline depth and some good size to go with it. I intended for my post to be more of an "on to the next step" kind of post. I'm all for this kid and I think he's going to play a lot for us next year.

Good point here. He may be a guy who can swing between end and tackle. Give us some strength against the runs that attack the edge that killed us this year. Could also give us an inside guy with enough speed and quickness to rush the passer from the inside and deal with some of the quickness we see in the PAC.

I also wonder about his measurables, at the same time if he has developed this much in the past couple years how much bigger might he get?

Like the pick-up

Huge pick-up at a position of need. Big difference between when he was coming out of HS (6'1", 220lb) and his size today (6'3" 275lbs). Someone who can play inside out for the next few years and give us depth for the first time in a long time. I like the move towards more athletic DL versus the wide bodied plodders. Need the speed in the spread out P12 styles of play.
