Why is a 6'2" 193 # running back seeing no interest? 4.56 electronic timed. All I could find was on huddle. Is it just that the quality of linemen in front of him negates his YPC and total yardage? Enlighten me.

What are his actual stats and what level of competition does he play against?

How do you know there is no interest?

For those of us looking to get more information about this kid, would you mind giving us a bit more information, a name perhaps?

I think he is referring to a kid Named Riley Ogden. Putting up big numbers, didn't see much else about him. Not on the databases that I could see.

Had a 254 yard game

http://www.maxpreps.com/news/rIvLNb...-tons-of-yards-for-corner-canyon-football.htm

Sounds like colleges are staying off him because he is skinny for a RB. Also playing behind a very good line that may be inflating his numbers.

Well, a name would be helpful in this case.

M. Riley Ogden, maybe? http://www.maxpreps.com/athlete/m-r...EWg/gendersport/football-stats.htm#year=14-15

But here's the deal in short: WHY some kids don't get recruited. WHY some kids do.

There are thousands of football players in each class.
Kid and/or his coach need to create a profile on Rival/Scout/ESPN etc. Usually done junior year, but as soon as one thinks of it, send it in. (I couldn't find him in either Rivals or ESPN.)
Someone at the school needs to send stats into the media, the scouting services, MaxPreps and the newspapers who cover that school.
Player needs to have good grades. Period. If that's ever the problem, Div 1 schools can't consider in most cases.
Video helps. Get it to the correct coaching staff.
Get through the NCAA eligibility site so schools can have contact with the player.
Go to the schools of interest, each football website, and fill out a recruit questionnaire. That tells the team the player has an interest.
Here is CU's if you've never seen one: https://questionnaire.acsathletics....NJMmvbWi+N2D5r2vdpmiGW0p4qvNYoTV0is2VTdU41iwj

MaxPreps likes him alot:
http://www.maxpreps.com/news/rIvLNb...-tons-of-yards-for-corner-canyon-football.htm

The local paper quotes Riley Ogden's coach as wondering why he hasn't been recruited, FWIW:
http://www.deseretnews.com/article/...r-Canyon-closer-to-Region-7-title.html?pg=all

Ogden rushed for 1,135 yards last year.
He's at nearly 1600 yds now for his senior season, and continuing into the playoffs. (MaxPreps has him at 1596 yards as of 10/31, he may have surpassed already.)

Guess I was still typing when you were posting. Same kid I found. Surprised the Utah schools haven't snapped him up though.

Yes, That's the kid. Big numbers in the play offs and I couldn't even find Rivals or Scout profile. Sorry about lack of details. On a plane, on a phone. Seems like he would strike with a non p5 school at least?

The biggest fallacy in recruiting is the old "if you are really good, schools will find you."
Sure, if you are in a big city, high profile school. But this is 4A in Utah, and he's been overlooked so far. His coach needs to make some calls. They need to get profiles up on the services (doesn't happen by magic.) Surely he's sending SOMETHING out to schools of interest, but some kids don't have any idea how to attract attention.

According to Scout, Riley's college interests include Southern Utah, Utah, Utah State, Weber State
He is unranked.

In this case though he is playing on a contending team for a state championship. He has an Offensive lineman who is a P5 commit for Utah. He has a coach who knows how the system works and apparently wants the system to work for the kid. This isn't a kid who isn't getting seen.

It may be that schools see him and wonder what he is. Tall and skinny to be a RB, might be a good WR but isn't playing the position and doesn't have film running routes and catching the ball. My thought was if he is reasonably fast, tall, and tough enough to take hits as a RB that he might be looked at as a CB but the article doesn't mention him playing defense.

If he has that good an offensive line his statistics may be inflated by having big holes to run through.

This isn't a kid from some little school 2 1/2 hours from the nearest indoor plumbing, he is getting seen. Question is what do the college coaches see or not see that makes them hesitant to pursue him.

I agree it makes no sense, but time is of the essence. If the player isn't getting the attention he desires, he needs to do something, get his coach to do something, take some kind of action. Because between now and signing day is a very short period of time, even if he's looking for PWO.

The weight doesn't bother me --- he hasn't been in anyone's college weight program yet. You can add weight; height is already there.
As far as grades (yeah, I'm bored today and I dug deep for this), his twitter account mentioned he tutors math. So putting 2+2 together, it wouldn't appear on surface that is the issue.
I suspect he's quietly in contact with the University of Utah. (Also a twitter crumb.)

So basically my internet slueth skills are bad. I couldn't find anything. In the game I saw last week he stood out. The offense was basically pitch it to him and he creates with speed to the hole. Two legit linemen to run behind, but no lead block. I was amazed he had no offers. Sounds like the people saying this were wrong. I agree he could work as a safety. With two big prospects on the line, he's been seen by scouts. Maybe this was a stand out game?

Thanks.

Not saying you were wrong at all. I'd never heard of him until you brought this here, so thanks for that. Let's hope he ends up with a great career --- and if he's going to be a good college player, let's hope CU is in the mix.

Can't coach speed. That line looks ridiculous though. In some ways that doesn't help.

Dude could be a legit safety in the pac12 or OLB if he added a 35lbs or so. Maybe even CB. Would be a project though.

I wonder how he would do as a RB.

Not possible. We would have offered already if that were the case.

Corner Canyon's quarterback is out for the season with a shoulder injury (I think happened on Oct. 31). Seeing how Riley does with a new backup QB will be interesting.
They won their first playoff game with the backup so far.

I don't get too caught up in huge numbers by running backs. We had a friend of the family who came close to breaking the Colorado yardage record but ended up at Wyoming where he had a decent, but hot earth shattering, career.

I guess my point with him was not that he is a star, but instead shock at the lack of any interest. I've learned he has an academic scholarship. He seems like someone who would be on the radar of some schools. Last week in a field of very good players, everyone knew where the ball was going, and he still got it done. I will be there again Friday. I will be interested to see if something plays out for him. I don't know if it will be in the PAC 12, but it seems like Utah state, CSU or BYU would be on a kid like this like a dog on a meat truck.

If he's got an academic scholarship, and wants to walk on to play football somewhere, it will count against their scholarship numbers. Just an fyi on an ncaa rule that I think is still in force.
Obviously designed to prevent wealthy alumni or boosters from granting random "academic" schollies to increase the number of subsidized players on any team.

And with a different line, we might all have heard his name and sing the song of his people around the campfire. You never know.

Was he a linebacker at WYO?

This kid does not look like a running back in terms of body type but he definitely has some wheels. I could really see him being a good WR or DB.
