Since international players don't end up in the scouting databases we traditionally use on Allbuffs, this profile is going to be a little different - buffnik

Visited CU for the Arizona game, which followed a visit to St. John's.

I'll work on turning the OP into a full profile at some point today.

One note: changed the title to 2015. He's for the current class.

I believe he was here for the Arizona Game thursday. 850 said a PG recruit was in the building, but didnt say who.

He was. We saw him talking to Ben Mills, Beau Gamble & Jeremy Adams at halftime.

Let the speculation start on who is leaving. If the last 2 committs really do show up for next year, someone besides the seniors has to go, correct?

Yes.

Welcome Thomas!

I have nothing whatsoever to back this up, but I think Talton is a candidate to leave. His comments to buffzone about the CBI after the Oregon loss were weird-if theres one person who needs the extra practices and games that that would bring, its the guy who kept screwing up the ball screens on Joseph Young. Don't think he's a Pac 12 caliber player, and I think we have too many holes that he can't help fill going into next year. Let him finish his college career at a place like UNC.

This is assuming the Belgian doesn't "waffle" on his commitment .

It's also assuming the Buffs are not pursuing Jolly.

There's no doubt that Thomas Akyazili will take Talton's minutes. Thomas was carrying Belgium against some of the best European countries. Tad has said repeatedly that he won't run anyone out of the program. He didn't pull Mills' schollie or Stalzer, so it's more likely that a player has already decided to transfer. Im hoping that's XT but im not betting on it.

"I picked Colorado because I felt that was the best option for me," Akyazili said. "I loved the campus, facilities, staff and team. I felt like I can have an impact there and I think that is the best way for me to grow as a person and a basketball player."

"After my visits it was pretty clear to me, going to Colorado or turning pro in Antwerp," Akyazili said. "I think they need someone who can make plays for others with the ball, I think I can help them with that.".

So random question: in his recruitment was Tad flying out to Belgium? How does recruitment of foreign player work?

Im not sure what tad did, but when Utah was recruiting Jakob Poeltl, he traveled to europe twice, and had to use some sort of special pot of money to pay for the flights. I think the money was called "Huntsmans gigantic pool of cash" money. I also think the poeltl said that larry K was the only one to come visit him, and that weighed heavily on his decision.

Thomas's video shows skills that will benefit our front court. Like this fit.

Welcome Thomas, glad to have you aboard! :congrats:

PS: Bring toughness! Team needs this.

I know that on the women's side, Lappe did go to Europe to see Alina Hartmann and Alina has mentioned that really impressed her.

One college coach familiar with the Belgian guard compared him to former Seton Hall guard Jaren Sina, a smart and instinctive quality shooter, but not a high level athlete — a third guard type. The coach saw Akyazili shred quality Massachusetts prep school Northfield Mount Hermon for 30 points on a trip to the states.

“I think he could help them,” the coach said. “He would be a good get for them.”

ESPN analyst and international basketball expert Fran Fraschilla, a former St. John’s coach, was impressed by Akyazili at the Under Armour Stephen Curry Camp in July, describing him as “hard-nosed” and “tough,” “a high character guy” and a “really good shooter.” But Fraschilla thinks he may be a stretch for the Big East.

“I evaluated him as a mid-major type, a Davidson type,” Fraschilla said. “As a role player [in the Big East], maybe off the bench, I can see it.”

An upgraded talton. Not a bad idea to have a really good back up pg

The scouting reports have made me think of Akyazili along the lines of a Knutson in terms of usage rate. May never be a "starter", but a guy who the coaches can trust to log significant minutes and to be on the court at crunch time in the right situational matchups. Different skill set than Levi (who was pretty much a pure shooter who wasn't going to give a lot beyond that), but similar in usage to give Tad quality functional guard depth... something we haven't had since Tad's 2nd year when Ski was the 6th man while 3 guards were starting (Nate, Carlon & Mayor).
