we're in the cbi.....

Embarrassing field-us, Pepperdine, and bunch of dinky schools. We play Gardner Webb Wednesday night.

The quest for a winning season continues, I guess. I'll take the extra practices with "something" to play for. Go Buffs indeed.

Not proud of this in any way, but it extends the season and Tad gets to gameplan for some opponents he's not used to.

Extra games are never a bad thing, especially with so many issues. Glad we accepted.

I wouldn't mind playing these games without Ski Booker. We need to know what we have going into next year and what the rotations might look like. Ski is a great Buff. I really think we need to see what we look like without him. imo

Yikes. I wonder about a tournament with spelling errors in their official bracket.

More practice and for guys like Collier, fletcher who are improving to get more games in. XJ, Gordon and hopkins definitely need this extra time. Would like to see miller get some more playing time.

A few things to remember:

30 second shot clock (testing it out for NCAA)

Tournament is regrouped after Quarterfinals

Final is best of 3, not a single game.

A few other things-
Gardner Webb beat some quality teams-at Purdue, Clemson on a neutral floor, and they beat Coastal Carolina (that league's ncaa rep) two of three times. Pepperdine swept BYU and gave Gonzaga trouble all three times they played them. Stony Brook started Washington's tailspin when they went up there and won. No P5, A-10, or MWC teams in this thing, but there's quality competition.

Ski not playing will be tough, but it benefits everybody who will be back next year to play in this.

Booker is sitting it out, per Howell on Twitter...

Tough decision. He could potentially run up some scoring numbers in the next or hypothetically future CBI matchups, but he'll get right for his professional career and move aside to let CU's future leaders make something happen on the court. Big decision. Definitely hurts CU's chances at running the table in this thing but for cohesion toward next season it is the right move.

Past winners include Pittsburgh (2012), Oregon (2011) and Oregon State (2009). First game is against Gardner Webb who beat Purdue (NCAA team) on the road as well as Clemson.

My brother wrestled at Gardner-Webb. One stoplight town and dry county.

Quite an interesting little campus. Huge deal of beating Kentucky half a dozen years ago.

I think it is a good idea for Ski to have gone out on the winning note, at CEC, that he did. This will let the Buffs not lean on him and allow the Buffs to see who steps up without him taking 20 shots in a game.

Kind of interesting that we're the only sub .500 team.

I think this was mutual, and I think Tad might have asked him to do this after it leaked that we'd be the only team from a major conference to play in it. He won't wow any pro scouts by going off against Gardner-Webb or Seattle, and its not worth the injury risk for him. It doesn't do the team much good to allot 30 plus minutes a night to Ski-this is all about next season.

Yes, great to have a second chance to end on a positive note. Hopefully all games will be played at CEC - if that's possible.

I never heard what Tad said originally that seemed to rule out CBI. Did CU change their mind, or was the original comment misunderstood?

Mixed feelings on this, but I assume Ski was consulted. The whole point of this is building for next year.

I don't know how or why Ski is not playing, but it does say a lot about this team and its struggles this year that the senior and leading scorer is not playing in the post season tournament. Could be the team, could be ski, could be the coach, or it could be a combination, but something is definitely rotten.

We'll have to play a road game at least once since the finals is a best of 3 series.

I posted Tad's quote in one of these threads from the Oregon post game. He basically said "seasons always end so abruptly".

Probably misunderstood-Tad always said he wanted to play in whatever we got invited to....The firm who runs the CBI always has trouble getting schools to play because of their version of the pay to play. Most of the big schools who get invited (Michigan and Florida) are at a point where they want to be done, and alot of the smaller schools prefer the CIT over this because of the smaller fee to host a game (30Kish vs the 50K that we're paying for Wednesday night---thats why the tickets for any of these games will probably all be GA).

I don't think it was that dramatic-If we had a couple more bigger name schools in this, it probably made some sense for him to play. He hurts himself and doesn't help us as a program by playing-This is an NFL-esque preseason for next year. We get to end on a good note, and get guys work who desperately need it. It doesn't do anyone any good to have Ski play 30 minutes against Gardner Webb and possibly Seattle.
