Have we crested? CU misses, SEC recruiting and replacing Coach A

SEC is struggling, too. Why would that be a draw?

They're using some of that football money on basketball now. They're not going to be a power, but they're going to be better next year. Kentucky will be great again. Florida should be better. Auburn is getting better. MSU hired a good coach. Bama hired a coach that might provide some bang. LSU is getting the #1 recruit in the nation.

Half of your reasons for the SEC getting better at hoops are highly questionable & I don't see how SEC hoops *might* be on the rise as a huge concern for Davis to pick Ark.

Legit reasons for Davis to pick Ark: How they used Bobby Portis as a stretch 4/5, Walton Arena is the 10th largest arena in NCAA & Ark fans show up for hoops, Ark really runs--top 10 team in terms of pace, & the program is on the rise with Mike Anderson who won a Nat'l title at Ark in 94 as an Asst HC.

'16 CO PF De'Ron Davis

Boyle's luster has worn off on the recruiting trail. **** the dick chard5 and $ean Miller.

That is a huge blow. Davis was being targeted as possibly the only CU signee for the class. This one stings. A lot.

Like Goose, I tempered my expectations so this isn't a surprise. I agree it's a huge blow still. The future of the MBB program is the bleakest it's been in 5 years. I'm very worried.

We just haven't been able to replace Tom A. in the recruiting department. I never thought I'd have to say that.

Maybe the kid just wanted to go out of state?

No surprise to me.

Kid has never shown much love for Colorado. Even when the Buffs were doing great things and it was clear Tad had them moving in the right direction, Davis was expressing a preference to go out of state.

Hasn't Tad been recruiting this kid hard for a long time? Pretty big slap in the face to not even put your home state school in your final list. Pretty disrespectful to Tad, I think. Honestly, it bothers me. A lot. But I'm going to try to stay classy. :smile2:

Tad has been after him for a long ass time yes, but I'm glad he announced his top 3 so we can move onto other targets.

This. We lost the dorsey lottery because we were in the running late and had put all our eggs in that basket.

No, and also disagree with the quote you responded to.

This one hurts, but I personally am not going to lose all hope just yet. While I liked him when he coached at Marquette, the more you hear and read about Tom Crean, he is not the best guy. I think Indiana drops out of the conversation. Arizona has bigs, and Tuscon sucks (Miller though kills it recruiting). Austin is cool, and I like Shaka a lot. I'm going to assume that Tad and co. aren't ending communication until it's all over...but I think Texas is hard to beat.

One bad recruiting class can hurt any program. Last year's was developmental to say the least, but sure, let's wait until they get on campus. We can't judge until we seem them in college games. Still, last year did not encourage hope for the future. Two bad recruiting classes will hurt any program. 2016 does not look great...

When the twitter feed broke, I was talking to a friend, and he was being snarky at all those CU fans that were blowing up over it. He found it ridiculous that people would question Tad Boyle, when his coaching is what helped bring the program's expectations so high. I find a lot of truth in that statement. However, that doesn't mean us fans can just patiently accept sub-par recruiting, when we don't have a lot of solid evidence that he can develop minor talent into high major, or out-strategize and scheme opponents.

I love Tad...but this stretch of recruiting is worrisome to me. I hope he proves me wrong and some of the recent pickups end up being diamonds in the rough. In the meantime, he could use some quality assistants on the recruiting trail.

Cameron Satterwhite is an NBA talent. Possibly Tads next savior.

This this 100 times this. Of the four recruits we have for the 2015/16 classes right now, being brutally honest, not one of them screams "starter" to me. They all look like solid bench guys - which you need, but you need some serious talent. And I'm not seeing it right now. The big hope was that we'd get a big dog to buoy the 2016 class and Tad would work his magic to surround him with quality players and we would get our mojo back. This just got a lot harder.

Exactly. If CU wanted Davis (and all indications are that we did -- very much), the fault on not even making his Top 3 lies with CU's recruiting... not with Davis. Buffs failed on this one despite recruiting him harder than anyone.

I would argue that Indiana has recruited him harder than anyone but that doesn't change your larger point that CU blew it. Real question is whether he ever had any interest in staying in-state. He's never showed that & you can't blame a kid for letting his talents take him to new places. Just please don't let that be Tucson.

One word is consistent in almost all of the posts on this string: Recruiting. Tad is failing to get impactful players that can elevate a program. I think that is apparent to potential recruits. Having a top 50 player commit would have been huge, the fallout of losing an in-state player (potentially to a league rival) is immense. Since Josh Scott and Xavier Johnson came to Boulder, Collier is the only other elite recruit on the roster.

We are not an elite basketball school, stop acting like we are.

We were in a worse spot when we landed the 2012 class that had two top 100 kids. He's not being unrealistic. Recruiting needs to pick up.

I'm sorry, but that's BS. Big slap in the face to not put your home state on the list? He has no reason to do that. If he's not interested, he's not interested. I'm not going to hate on the kid because he thinks he has better options elsewhere.
Hey, I admitted I'm butt hurt and bitter. With butt hurtedness and bitterness come irrational and bitter comments.

Why can we not become an elite school?

Because we won't pony up the under-the-table goodies to top-level recruits' families/handlers, that it takes to land them?

Some here admitted as much.
Think about it: Danny Manning chooses KU and all of a sudden...Poof!.... his father is sitting on the KU bench as an assistant coach, making a high five-low six figure income for the first and only time in his life! Too bad the NBA made kids wait to go pro back then. KU and the old man had to maintain that facade for four years instead of a "one and done " deal for Manning, as would be the case now.
No kid has to go to an elite school to be "discovered" by the NBA these days. If you are big, athletic and can put the ball in the hoop or rebound, you will be found, whether in Spain or South Junction, Mississippi.

Missing out on Davis will have a long term impact on CU. We will struggle next year and be close to the bottom of the PAC 12 after that because you need talent to win in our conference and we're not doing well bringing talent to Boulder. I think the next 2-3 years are going to be tough. Bigs are hard to find and we need to step up recruiting to find one. I'm not sure Rodney Billups was the right replacement for Coach Abatemarco.

Why can we not become an elite school?

We tried. Turns out the cover charge at the door of the club was more than we had in our wallets. Arizona and Indiana smiled and waved to us from the VIP section as we slowly turned around and headed home.
