Since Howell didn't respect the 24 Hour Rule, this one is out there. But as RK reported yesterday on Rivals, Derrick White from UC-Colorado Springs is talking to the Buffs about a potential transfer. He'll have one more year of eligibility, and speculation is that he would be able to play next year (although with the NCAA's weird ass rules, God only knows). Kid has some serious talent, but there are questions about how well he'll transfer from D2 ball to Pac-12 ball. Put up 25 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists a game this year and is already the all-time leading scorer in UCCS history and the first All-American in school history.

At the very least, I think we're looking at a solid bench option who can back up Fortune at the 2.

He had a few D1 schools looking at him last year as well according to this.

As I also posted in another thread (but more directly applicable here)-

Another article (this one non-subscription) on Derrick White and CU- http://gazette.com/uccs-derrick-whit...KzyJWd0D1f4.99

"...

White is now 6-foot-5 and 190 pounds, but when he played high school at Parker's Legend High School, he was 6-1 and weighed 160 pounds. His only scholarship offers came from a junior college in Wyoming and UCCS. He often said he was inspired by the lack of interest from other colleges.

There's no lack of interest now.

"I was surprised but I wasn't surprised," (UCCS Head Coach) Culver said of White's request to contact CU. "After every season, we heard rumors and overtures, but thought it was behind us."

Could White talk to CU and then return to UCCS?

"That's not our assumption," Culver said. "We're moving forward."

Solid. 32% career from 3 (33.6% last year). But 48.8% from the field in general and 82.8% from the FT line.

And all of his shooting numbers have improved each year in spite of greater usage rate and defensive attention increasingly focused on him. Clearly a guy who is putting in the work and progressing.

kid is good, very good, First and foremost he can score in a lot of ways... He can shoot from the outside and he can attack the rim like a slasher, He has pretty good ball handling skills on the dribble and he can distribute. He also commands the floor on both the offensive and defensive end, he's a floor general in the truest sense. He also holds his teammates accountable, He's always leading a quick secondary huddle on the court as they come out of a timeout. Personally I'm not sure he's a high major caliber talent. I think he could dominate a low to mid major conference... but maybe I'm clouded by my bitter hatred of him for ruining my last Metro Basketball game haha haha

I think expecting him to be a guy to come in, provide some quality minutes off of the bench and provide 6-10 ppg is reasonable. Everything else is gravy.

Right on! If he gets 6pts a game and stays on the plus side of a/t ratio, he would surpass Jaron's production right there.

Derrick seems to have a good stroke and probably wouldn't be scared to shoot the ball, which was my MAJOR complaint from several players last year.

Seems pretty cool for a guy from UCCS to transfer to CU and get a shot at the big time. For 1 year and he can play now, hell, sign him up unless Tad can get a better guy that can play now. We need offensive help for next year asap!!!

Selfishly wish the % from deep was closer to 40, but don't see much downside here for a 1 year guy assuming he's eligible to play right away.

By all reports one of the most important things for next year is changing the attitude of the team.

Even though it was at a lower level this is a guy who was a key player on an NCAA tourney team. I hope that in addition to his playing ability he can add some leadership and attitude to the roster.

I found a column on White from last year that I think folks will enjoy. From the sounds of it, he's simply a good young man from a good family who takes care of his responsibilities and works his ass off....

DENVER — If you have the dirt on Derrick White, please shoot me an email:

paul.klee@gazette.com.

Because I can't find any. Not even a juicy story angle. There's no arrest record. He didn't grow up in a sketchy neighborhood ruled by drugs. There's no paycheck-to-paycheck childhood in a single-parent home. There's no medical ailment that almost ended his career before he could lead UCCS on a program-record nine-game winning streak and become a Player of the Year candidate in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.

Nothing.

On a team that is as offensively inept as the Buffs are, he would start from Day One. Some of you guys amaze me. This program is in a free fall and desperately needs someone of this caliber.

We are not in a freefall chicken little,.

I don't see how he could play next year unless he is a grad transfer. You have to sit out when moving up a division (See: Varon Ram, Duncan Robinson)

This is very interesting to me. Shall see what happens, but I get the sense that Tad is completely pissed at this last season and he is making changes in any way he can.

Huge leap from D2 to Pac-12. I'm not saying it's impossible, I'm just saying that it's a lot harder to score on the Gary Payton Jr's of the world than it is on the guys at Metro State.

The last 12 months of recruiting has not produced an obvious home run, though I think Satterwhite is an interest commitment.

…."interesting". Dang keyboard.

"Interesting" is one word to use...

Would certainly expect him to not repeat his statistical production moving up in competition.

At the same time we see guys come in as freshmen out of high school and contribute right away. D2 competiton isn't close to P5 level D1 but it is way better than even the best HS ball.

We don't need him to be a 25ppg star, we could definately use a guy who and will produce in the half court offense. Nobody knows for sure until he gets here but I expect him to be a solid player for us.

We should start a drinking game, anytime MTN writes 'At the same time...' in a post, you drink!

Would it change your intake, always figured that you spent most of your time drinking anyways.
