Weiberg leaves over football revenue sharing problems

Big 12 schools share revenue evenly, except for football television contract money. The smaller-budget schools mostly in the North feel slighted. The bigger budgeted teams say success breads exposure. A smaller budget school like CU has to make a monster non-conference schedule to get TV contract money. The FSU game is a nationally televised game for CU.
I don't like the revenue sharing because teams like KU can make a cream puff non-conference schedule and still get the same revenue as another North team like KSU that opens on the road against Auburn. You get what you pay for - who wants to watch Iowa State vs Kent State?

B12 has no tradition.
It's lopsided towards the South.
Screw the states of Texas, Oklahoma, Missouri and Kansas.

It's BS that the B12 championship sites are in "nuetral" location like Houston, Dallas or St. Louis. Who the hell want's to visit Stillwater or Lubbock? And those are some of the closer rival schools.

I say the Buffs and the fans would enjoy a stint in the Pac 10.
Let me take this on farther.
My dream B12 league:

East:
AFA (Nod to our heros in uniform. Those Cadets out sex-scandal anybody).
BYU (close to Alta - talk about a school w/ a superiority complex)
CU
CSU (low-budget road-trip. Always fun to silence the lambs),
NU (for the 'rivalry'. Need somone to write about on these forums)
Wyo (League doormat - preferably close to home)

West
ASU (luv the desert in Oct/Nov),
Cal (Berkeley & Boulder in the same conference? groovy man)
USC (gotta beat the best to be the best),
UCLA (rotate schedules with USC and visit SoCal every year)
Stanford (Brainy school to knock around)
UNLV (ultimate road-trip and a guaranteed win)

There wouldn't be a bad Championship game location.
Put that in you pipe and smoke it.

I haven't seen the numbers for a few years, but the last time I checked, CU was hardly a smaller budget school. We were right behind UT, A&M and *ebraska the last time I looked. I suspect OU might be ahead of us by now. I'm pretty certain that we're in the top half of the league in terms of athletic budget.

honestly? that looks like a nightmare league of monumental proportions, to me...

Based on that East/West conference it looks like we would have the same type of problem we have now. The West would be way more dominate for some time and it would be a constant catch-up game for all of us in the East? Mark my words UCLA is going to topple USC for next couple of years and are going to become the better team. They are getting some good recruits in there.

"Bohn said it was too early to speculate on whom any potential replacements for Weiberg might be. He did, however, deflect the notion of he himself being interested in the job, saying, "I'm 100-percent focused on the University of Colorado and trying to help us grow." - Daily Camera

Psst. Gary Barnett is available.

If we are not a smaller budget school, why has it taken so long to get a freakin indoor practice facility. KU and KSU have had one for years and the weather is alot colder in Boulder than it is in Lawrence or Manhattan. We also don't have a baseball program because of the budget.

Actually, the weather is NOT a lot colder here than it is in Lawrence and/or Manhattan. You should know that. Truth be told, the weather here is probably better than anyplace else in the conference. That doesn't mean we don't need the bubble - we do.

Like I said, I haven't seen the numbers for a few years, so it may be different now. But I would still expect that we have a larger athletic budget than 7 of the other 11 teams in the league.

The only monies not shared are those from TV contracts... i.e. nationally televised games. You make a point about killer non-conference schedules for thr smaller schools, but fail to mention the killer non conference schedules of the so-called larger schools. Every school needs to schedule tougher non-conference games. 11 of the 12 teams in the Big XII in 2006 schedule Div 2A schools, with the exception being Oklahoma. If you want the money, then work towards the exposure. Play the tougher non-conference games and hopefully the game will be televised nationally. Oh btw.... this is what brought the horns and ags to the Big XII, Texas was being looked at by the Pac10 and A&M by the SEC when the SWC began to crumble down....

and for the record, it was mentioned in the article I read that Texas leads the Big XII with a 83 mil athletic budget, followed closely by A&M. Being a Texas paper they stopped there.

csu ?? Wyoming ?? UNLV ?? AFA ??
:wtf::wtf:

maybe BYU and Utah but that's it IMHO-

USC is getting better recruits though, and USC also has the better coaching staff. UCLA might close the gap, but I don't see them surpassing USC.

How much trouble does a usc player get into if he loses his team issued bullet proof vest? Does Nike just make them another one?

My Fantasy Conference looks like this;

North;
Colorado
Washington
Michigan
Nebraska
Penn State
Notre Dame

South
Miami :smile2:
Florida State
LSU
Texas
Usc
Texas A&M (gotta have a freak show)

I call it the Continental Conference.

The U.S. Department of Education has only 4 schools in the Big 12 with smaller budgets than C.U. I was transferred to the K.C. area 14 years ago after living in Golden for 12 years. I have never seen a snowfall in K.C. of more than 6 inches, and during a normal year it snows less than a half dozen times. Check out this link:

clearly, you are begging for the ski boot treatment for your father's day present. colorado tends to lead the pack year in and year out with tough ooc schedules, so you are preaching to the choir.

i think you are going to have to sit smewhere else this year for the ou/cu game than with me. :censored::yell::pissed::beerme:

I have lived in both KC and Colorado. KC is WAY colder. Colorado rarely has days where it's so cold that it hurts. KC has them all the time.

According to MSN weather, the average highs for the month of January are 46 for Boulder and 38 for KC. Consider the effect of the humidity, and it's much much colder in KC.

I am pretty sure that the television contract for Big 12 games is split evenly amongst the schools. So there are only four games a year where Big 12 teams don't share television revenues.

As for the athletic department budgets -- Nebraska, Oklahoma, Texas, and Texas A&M all have much larger athletic dept. budgets. (The UT budget almost doubles CU's budget) Colorado is right in the same area with Missouri and Texas Tech.

As for the reason why we don't have a bubble-- I doubt that an indoor practice bubble is a budgeted item. You don't add a $5 million dollar budget item one year, and have it gone the next. Other schools got indoor facilities first because they received the private funding to construct such facilities much sooner than CU did

Smaller overall budget perhaps, but not a smaller athletic budget. Remember that Colorado is in a serious funding pinch for higher education right now, and all of the state schools are tightening down. I would still put CU's athletic budget behind OU, UT, A&M, & Nebraska and nobody else - probably.

And are you actually going to try and convince me that the weather in Colorado is worse than it is in Kansas City?

I did not see this article posted, sorry if iit is a duplicate but it is an interesting take.

I have to take issue with this guy's contention that the B-12 is way behind the SEC/ACC/B-10/P-10. We're one year removed from a football national championship and a women's basketball national championship. And we're somehow sucking wind? Then there's all the minor sports like Skiing and cross country where CU does very well. I don't get it.

If you read the link it says Athletic Budgets, not overall budgets. I graduated
from CU in 1977 and while I would much rather still be living in Colorado, I can guarantee you the weather here is milder than Boulder. I can play golf here in KC about 11 months out of the year. Golf and good bbq are the only good things about KC. Boulder is also over 5,000 ft higher in elevation than KC - the laws of physics say that produces colder weather, go to any ****ing weather site in the winter and compare the temps for yourself.
Big 12 Athletic budgets
Texas $97 million
A&M $70 million
OU $64 million
NU $64 million
KU $63 million
OSU $54 million
T Tech $53 million
CU $47 million
MU $45 million
KSU $43 million
ISU $33 million
Baylor - who gives a rat's ass

Well, like I said, it's been a few years since I last saw the numbers. It's pathetic that we're behind the likes of Kansas and OSU. I hope we turn that around soon.

it was witch tit cold for the b12 championship game, and there had been a huge dump of snow all over.

Ack, the East sucks and that West is STACKED.

But its just a fantasy anyway. The PAC10 isn't changing anytime soon.

The SEC is heads and shoulders above us, across the board. They have many stadiums larger than those in our conference. They have an exclusive contract with CBS. I believe they also have larger budgets and each school has all 3 major sports (baseball). All the schools in this conference kick ass in Football save one or two. They are strong from top to bottom. They have high participation and high attendance. All the schools are also clustered very closely together.

The Big 10 is probably slightly better than the Big XII. Most of the schools are pretty good. Big Budgets and Big Facilities.

The Pac 10 is kind of weak.

The ACC is new and may morph into what we currently have in terms of a lopsided conference with a hodgepodge of schools.

I see the Big XII as mid tier. Most of our stadium are in the 60k range and they don't sell out. Our budgets are smaller and our conference is totally lopsided. Oklahoma or Texas are totally unchallenged and they will be penciled in every year. We really need NU to make a comeback as the dominant team for the sake of the conference. We need the Buffs to comeback as well (or someone else) to challenge NUs dominance and make it interesting. The North is incredibly boring.
