Freshman WR Josh Smith, who was having an outstanding camp, was hospitalized for observation Saturday evening after suffering a bruised kidney in Saturday’s scrimmage. Smith could have suffered the injury on one of two occasions, first when he had the wind knocked out of him taking a hit while going up for catch, or later in the scrimmage when he ran three-quarters speeds into a retaining wall in the southwest corner of Folsom Field on a fade route. CU trainer Miguel Rueda said Smith is out indefinitely, though it is very unlikely he would be ready for the season opener.

Do they mean that "though it is very likely he would be ready for the season opener."?

Hey Buffalo30 - want to weigh in on this? What is involved in recovery from a bruised kidney?

i'm not buffalo30, but i was interested enough to find out. 7-10 days if it is just a bruise. the kidney may be damaged severely, and require removal.

smith's condition will fall somewhere in that spectrum, hopefully on the less injurous side.

****....****.....BITCH...

CU just can't catch a break-:sad1::cry:

no one said that it was severe enough to warrant the worst case scenario. HOPEFULLY it is a minor 7-10 day variety, and his body is primed for some awesome healing!

Plus, as bad as I want him on the field, this is the first season in a loong time that I feel comfortable about our WR depth and talent.

I'm no doctor, but Josh Reed (WR for the Bills) was out 3-4 weeks last year with a "bruised kidney." 7-10 days seems a bit short to resume playing football.

Wow, we are really young... I think everyone who is predicting bowl season better put down the kool-aid.. We'll be fortunate to win 4-5 games this year with this roster..

by my count we have 8 juniors and 3 seniors on the 1 line in the depth chart. that's not a bad group in terms of experience--and bodes well for next year.

No complaining allowed from you if we win more than 4 games then.

i think it is extremely odd to call yourself a fan while expecting such a piss poor season. :gobuffs:

Um, last year was a piss poor season.. I'm not predicting we will be that bad..

I'm just looking at it realistically, how injuries happen, etc,etc.. We get some injuries on the OL, Little Hawk is going to get killed by some of the elite teams we play..You can't line up true freshmen on the OL and think we are going to hang in the Big 12 week in and week out.. I'm concerened about the start also..I don't want to see a repeat of last year.. Not really sure we are even going to beat CSU right now..

CSU--Toss up
at ASU ---- LOSS
FSU--------LOSS (don't know what Woelk is drinking)
Miami Ohio---- Win
OU---------LOSS
at Baylor-----Toss up
at KSU------LOSS
Kansas------Win
at TTech----LOSS
Missouri-----LOSS
at Iowa St---Toss up
Nebraska----LOSS

I thought during the summer we would easily get the 6 wins for a bowl, but after reading some of these preseason mags and looking at our roster realistically, I'm not as confident as I once was.. To get to a bowl game, I think we are going to have to at least win 2 road games (Baylor, ISU) and then pull an upset at home (Missouri, Nebraska, OU) or win a game on the road that we shouldn't (TTech).. Its imperative to beat CSU in my mind to even have a shot at a bowl and if I remember correctly, 6-6 for Kansas didn't get them into a bowl... No guarantee if we win 6 we'll be bowling..

jb is not a fan...he is a skeptic...a glass half empty kind of guy...not that it is necessarily wrong to take that view, but it does get tiring for the rest of us who enjoy the glass half full viewpoint...

sounds like you are predicting that we will be that bad...

here is my take, based on what i saw yesterday...but i still think each game is a potential win until the game is played...

CSU--WIN
at ASU ---- TOSS UP
FSU--------TOSS UP
Miami Ohio---- WIN
OU---------TOSS UP
at Baylor-----TOSS UP
at KSU------TOSS UP
Kansas------WIN
at TTech----TOSS UP
Missouri-----TOSS UP
at Iowa St---WIN
Nebraska----TOSS UP

i think we will win three of the toss up games. that makes my prediction 7-5 and bowl eligible...

anybody who thinks differently is full of ****...

I like to go with the idea of toss-up games and say we split the difference, so here's what I come up with:

CSU-- TOSS UP
at ASU ---- TOSS UP
FSU------- Loss
Miami Ohio---- Win

I certainly like our chances against ASU but I'll say 2-2 because we sure as hell better not lose to CSWho.

Big 12:
OU---------Loss
at Baylor-----Win
at KSU------TOSS UP
Kansas------Win
at TTech----TOSS UP
Missouri-----TOSS UP
at Iowa St-- Win
Nebraska----TOSS UP

If we split the tossup games that puts us at 5-3 in conference and 7-5 overall. If I had to nail it down I'll say we beat the Fuskers and Mizzou and lose at KSU and TT.

:gobuffs:

Being completely objective, here's my take:

CSU--WIN
at ASU ---- WIN
FSU--------WIN
Miami Ohio---- WIN
OU---------WIN
at Baylor-----WIN
at KSU------WIN
Kansas------WIN
at TTech----WIN
Missouri-----WIN
at Iowa St---WIN
Nebraska----WIN

CCG------WIN
NCG------WIN

Until we lose on the field, I won't put an L on our schedule. :gobuffs:
