2016 Basketball Attrition Thread (was Fletch and Guzo leaving)

Will miss Fletch. Will also root for him at his new spot.

Weren't a lot of minutes for him next season, though, so I understand his decision.

Guz was just a name on the roster, so I'm glad to see the scholarship open up. Not that I have any negative feelings, just that I never had a reason to connect with him as a fan.

Buffs now have 2 scholarships open and a pretty deep rotation for next season.

8 guys will definitely play significant minutes: Wes, Tory, XJ, King, White, Fortune, Dom, Thomas. Some programs (like Coach K's Duke teams) only really play an 8-man rotation. Then, we've got Bryce and Deleon pushing for minutes as freshmen. Walton probably redshirts. I could see another big earning minutes to soften the blow from losing J40 from the post. I'm going to guess that we sign a big who is ready to play and probably a transfer who has to sit this season.

Not really surprised. When I was thinking about Tad's presser comments about the on-on-ones and also his gushing about White, these two came immediately to mind. Hope Fletch lands somewhere that will work for him. He was a good Buff and will provide someone with a good player and a solid guy.

Think we still sign siewert @Buffnik ?

Disappointed with Fletcher for sure, but with XJ coming back, just not enough minutes to go along. Hoping Tad lands a big and a quality transfer or JC kid.

This is how big time programs do it.

Tad isn't forcing anyone out but the writing is on the wall, For Fletch King is going to get his minutes Fortune is going to get his minutes . Tad was on KOA the other night and sounded like White is going to be on the floor a lot.

Guz simply didn't step up to this level. He was worth a chance but why spend all year working if you aren't going to get to play. Go to a lower division school and get to play for your efforts.

The 'not enough minutes to go around' argument doesn't hold water. This wasn't a championship team. The team lost 12 games and doesn't have a replacement for Scott in the pipeline. Fletcher would have definitely helped. With the current stagnant recruiting, it's not like we need to make room for any blue chippers. Guz was an unknown but probably good to free up the scholarship.

Au contraire! Fletcher saw fewer minutes as the season went on and the two seniors who are coming in will eat up most, if not all the time he might have had a shot at. Sure, there is no one-to-one replacement of Scott, but between White and XJ, his points and boards will be replaced, if not exceeded.

All of this is true, but not really relevant for Fletcher since he's not likely to play Scott's position.

I feel that Gordon and Dom are going to start (Wes seems to be a no brainer, but Dom will face more competition), with King, XJ, Fortune and White filling the minutes at the other 3 spots. CU would be a better team likely if Fletcher returned, but it's understandable how he wouldn't want to play in a reserve role as a senior.

Not sad to see either of them go. Both were not Tad's best days on the recruiting trail. Obviously Guzo just didn't have it to play at this level.

Fletch was a 4 star guy, and like JHop, just never showed what that hype was about. You wonder if maybe other coaches saw it, and that's why they backed off. He had his moments as a Buff, but was never a consistent contributor on the offensive end. Even if XJ and White weren't entering the fold next year, did anyone really see Fletcher taking much of a lead role?

Liked Fletch a lot but he was not going to see the court much next year. Will be pulling for him wherever he lands and will be watching for it. Guz, well that is a good one to have open up. Best of luck to him.

Tad mentioned playing 4 guards in his end of season presser. He mentioned XJ having impact, King and White. He mentioned Tory's rebounding and inside scoring. He mentioned Wes, Fortune, the Belgium waffle as well as the incoming freshman. He did not mention Fletch. If Fletch was to play the 3 (wing), he would have to share minutes with King, White and Fortune. I like Fletch, although the original movie Fletch was better - best of luck to him!
Interesting that Tad did not mention Dom either. I think Bryce will take major minutes away from Dom (perhaps even start at some point).

Going to miss Fletch. He was a solid guy in the rotation and a a great person off the court. It is unfortunate that he is leaving, but I totally understand given the outlook for his minutes next year. I wish him well wherever he ends up.

He talked about Dom quite a bit. Really praised him for his improvement to his shot from frosh to soph, said he needed him to consistently show what he flashed, and that he wished he had redshirted him as a frosh.

I definitely think Fletch will be missed. His defense was really coming along and when he was motivated to go grab boards he was a beast. He would have gotten his minutes next year because that is the kind of player Tad likes. No doubt he will be missed and he was a very solid Buff. I am sure that once he transfers and sits out a year and realizes how much he really loves the game, he will become a beast where ever he lands.

Talton had more boards than Fletch playing similar minutes and his defense was not consistent.

Fletch should follow Rodney to DU. He would tear up the Summit league.
So should Guz, DU has NO size and relies on good 3 pt. shooters. Guz has a decent shot, but needed another year to get back in BB shape from his injury. Those two would be good choices for Rodney as neither could be screwed up too badly by Ricardo.

Gonna miss Fletcher. Wonder if he was given the option of redshirting? Either way best of luck to Fletcher. He was a decent player, but didn't seem to get a whole lot better from his freshman year to now. I don't know what Boyle was thinking in Guz, but glad Tad was able to get out of it.

Now Tad can steal a big man, hopefully a SR Transfer that can play and provide back up minutes immediately, and a freshman SF or PF to groom. I love who we have coming back, Buffs can make some real noise next year.
