According to Hawk (Denver Post), Sipili's case could be resolved this week and he could possibly play at ASU. So, anyone have any idea what he's talking about?

CU coach Dan Hawkins said it is possible Michael Sipili's legal issues could be resolved in time for the sophomore middle linebacker to play against Arizona State. Sipili was suspended indefinitely after a June off-campus fighting incident. ... Only two true freshmen saw action against CSU: wide receiver Kendrick Celestine and walk-on Tyler Cope, who handled kickoffs. ... Senior Bernard Jackson said after Saturday's game he is hoping to get academic clearance to play Sept. 15 against Florida State, but Hawkins said Sunday he wasn't sure if that will happen. ... After reviewing game film of the opener, defensive coordinator Ron Collins said "all mistakes (against CSU) are correctable. ... We only had two busts (in coverage)."
EYE ON ... THE SUN DEVILS

This whole Bernard Jackson deal is just plane wierd. I don't think I can remember a case like it since I've been following the Buffs. What the hell is going on?

I hope the Gawd Damned DA's office gives the kid a break. Just offer him a reduced charge, let him plead and go on with his life. It sounds like the kid he hit was just about as culpable. Unfortunately, we all know who the DA is, and giviing a CU Football player a break is probably the last thing on the bitch's agenda.

Hawk said he has alot on his plate. I've heard that we are waiting on a summer school prof to grade his papers. I also know that he has a son. So there is probably more going on then we will ever know. Good luck to BJ. I hope we see him on the field this year.

I just hope they treat him the same as anyone else. He messed up bad. even if it was the other kid starting crap. He should know better. I am really not holding my breath. I don't expect him to be back on the team. I hope i'm wrong.

summer school is OVER! what's the deal? was he not timely, or is this the prof's snafu?

while i am sure that there may be profs who don't give a damn about ball, i would think that there is some accountability for those profs who can't get grades in by a grading deadline.

i can hope? timeliness is a basic ingredient of professionalism, and i know for a fact that each prof at cu is held to a review process.

which is why i would wonder if the issue was not the prof, but b-jax's. after he turns in his work, tho, it would be rather professional of the prof to grade the work STAT.

I think Hawkins is trying to avoid the continuing questions...but if he's saying still, there are issues "on his plate", I don't think it has to do with football.

As for his little boy, he is two years old...and those health problems have been with him quite awhile I believe. I don't think they are new.

There is a reason or maybe more than one reason why BJax is not out there and even if he makes it back acedemically, maybe there is not a spot for him.

Someone posted on the other board that he is academically inelegible but the confirmation has not been announced.

Most likely they hope the questions will go away as the season progresses.

That sucks. I know the health problems aren't new. It sucks that he is ending his college career this way.

My understanding is that Jackson had to take an incomplete on one of his summer courses. Assuming that is what he did, the prof will not give him a grade until he finishes the work. It's easy to blame the profs but it sounds like Jackson needs to get his house in order if he wants to see the field.

I sincerely hope that Jackson understands how important his college degree is for him and his family. IMHO, getting back to the football field should be secondary.

agreed, which is why i was asking "was he not timely?" if he has not turned in his work in a timely manner, he is lucky to acquire an incomplete to begin with, unless there were extenuating circumstances.

I thought I had heard that the son had some sort of cancer traements going on and had lost an eye already. Anyone else heard that?

I sure thought BJax was introduced as one of the Captains at the CSU game...my father in law heard it too and we were discussing if he was going to play or not.

I think he's still listed as captain, but someone else (sorry, can't remember the name) is standing in on his behalf.

I thought I heard BJ was taking continuing ed/correspondence classes, which didn't have deadlines like summer school/semester work does (well they do, just not the same....). Anyway, that also may be a reason. Either way, I agree. BJ needs to make sure he & his family are taken care of before worrying about playing football.

forgive my ignorance....and this is not an attempt to thread jack...but who is that in your sig line pic?

I posted this yesterday in another thread.

Plead guilty to misdemeanor assault. Probably no jail time. What does this mean all you Legal Eagles?

up to the judge... at the sentencing hearing next week. probation to 2 years is what he faces, plus he has to make restitution ("restorative justice" i guess they call it in colorado based upon stuff i read elsewhere).

restitution means he has to pay $$ to help offset the victim's losses (like his med bills). figuring out how he will pay for that may be part of the reason for some of the delay.

i am not a crim. lawyer, but i'd bet he gets probation, some sort of counseling or community service requirement, and an order to reimburse the victim for med bills.

whether he can play this saturday or not depends on hawkins.

fingers crossed. this would be an absolutely gigantic help in our interior defense. i'd feel MUCH better about our chances v. asu.
