Clearly comes across as a very intelligent guy in that interview. I love targeting guys who have all the physical tools and have interest from service academies and Ivy League schools. Having a smarter team can be the difference between 7-5 and 10-2.

I'm sorry but this is a joke right? I do not disagree at all that a "smarter team" will allow to better comprehend a playbook, but I have to strongly disagree that it will translate that significantly into wins. I would agree with you if you told me that 50% of our recruits are in the top percentile academically along with being Division I size players. But to state that because we are recruiting "smarter" that we will win 3 more games a year, makes absolutely no sense. If that was the case, why don't we stand outside of the Scripps National Spelling Bee Competition every year and offer a scholarship to each competitor? Why aren't Vanderbilt and Northwestern the SEC & BIG10 Champs every year? *an outlier would be Stanford. I welcome intelligent, physical and good character recruits to our school, but to say that a team of "smart" students is going to take us not only bowling but January bowling yearly is ridiculous.

We want a college bowl game, not a game of college bowl.

Settle down sparky. He mentioned guys with "physical tools" first.

It makes sense if the QB is the smartest guy on the team. Especially if those book smarts help with game prep, management and on field decisions.

The OL (especially, the center) are generally the smartest on the team. QB "book smarts" are a necessity determined by the system - often times you actually don't want the QB to overthink the play.

Jesus. The first thing i said was "guys who have all the physical tools". If the physical talent is roughly equal, the smarter team will have an advantage. Fewer penalties. Better focus. Fewer blown assignments. Better situational awareness. Better ability to recognize and remember the other teams' tendencies when studying film. Less likely to get suspended for academic trouble or doing dumb ****.

In the NFL, they often talk about a smart team being a big advantage. I'm sure it helps a bit in college, but it wouldn't be the same type of advantage because - unlike the NFL - we aren't talking about a competitive landscape where the athletic talent is pretty much equal from team to team. With Lytle, I do value the smarts... but only because what I see on film with the physical ability is kind of blowing me away. (I'm ridiculously high on him.) His intelligence is the cherry on top.

Sorry, I know we are all Buffs and on the same team. I just saw this last night before I was going to be and after a couple beers and had to respond. I hate ambiguous statements like this. I understand what you were trying to say and I do believe its great to have intelligent players, but I would just take out the part about the direct correlation of wins with intelligence. That is all I was trying to really say.

Drinking and posting is forbidden here, isn't it?

There is an embedded thought process among CU fans that leads them to believe that academics at CU are of higher quality than most other schools and therefore the student-athletes at CU are/should be better than other schools. The fact of the matter is that in the Big 12 this was mostly true, but not so much in the Pac-12. CU is not getting smarter players than UCLA, Cal, Stanford, Washington, USC, Arizona, Oregon, or maybe not any smarter than most any Pac-12 school. Yes, CU's overall student population is in the top half of "smarts" in the Pac-12, but nothing on the football team that suggests they could beat the other schools in a trivia or SAT bowl. Other than Stanford, no football program in the Pac-12 can claim smarter players since they all have the same NCAA bar to hurdle except for Stanford.

Smarts argument is kinda dumb IMO. In my mind, if we had a game changer at QB, we could've won enough games to go bowling. Sefo is a decent Q, but this team needed a game changer like Anu Solomon last year. Hopefully we have the tools this year so we won't require extraordinary play from Sefo, as he has proven he doesn't have it.

Anu Solomon's game changer against us was getting pulled for Jerrard Randall.
