Sppppprrrruuuuuuccceeee

The first catch was very nice, Mannion made a bad throw and Spruce twisted back to catch it over the middle. Fearless.

I tuned back in to the Rams game (after watching the Rox be futile in the late innings ... yet again) just in time to hear Gruden call attention to Spruce coming into the game, and touting his performance in camp and how the coaches love him ("he gets it") .. and then on the very next play, Spruce makes a leaping catch in traffic over the middle ... and then winds up catching the ball on the 3 and diving into the endzone. Not too shabby.

I still don't understand why he wasn't drafted. When you put up the numbers he did against Pac-12 defenses that were keying on him, there shouldn't be any doubt that he can play. Whatever, though. Important thing when he didn't go high for a big payday was that he got to pick the best situation for himself.

He is showing great hands and hard, smart running after the catch. He may be physically limited but he is flashing big in this game. It would be great if he can make final roster.

He certainly is making the most of the opportunity.

And it's not like that roster is full of talent at WR.

Yea that number 8 guy dropped like 10 passes and botched a punt return.
I think Spruce is going to become a star in LA before year end and that is going to help our recruiting in so cal.

Nelson Spruce not getting drafted was a joke but what's not a joke is how he is going to make every team he plays against pay for that mistake! Good luck on Sunday's Nelson!

I think "physically limited" is an overstatement.

No he isn't a sprinter who is going to just line up and run past guys, he isn't exactly slow either. Plenty of very successful NFL WRs couldn't run past most CBs.

He is fast enough to get where he needs to be and doesn't lack for willingness and ability to mix it up physically, on that TD catch he ran through defenders arms on his way to the end zone and he didn't just cross the goal line, he was all the way in.

Spruce looks like another in a long line of guys who prove why the combine is overrated. He happens to be a much better player in pads than in shorts and a t-shirt.

Post game interview with Jackie Slater: "and it looks like they found a local guy, whats his name, Moose or Bruce or whatever they were calling him, I can't think of his name. Number 89, the kid was a slot receiver, he made a lot of catches in that final drive...he was very impressive kinda remind me of that slot receiver with the Patriots, very talented."

Led the lambs with 6 catches. Scored a TD. Caught 2 passes that made 1st downs on the game winning drive. Douche fisher said his name, but I didn' t hear what he said.

I like Spruce a lot too, but in the NFL he is physically limited. If it all breaks his way he will be a role player in the slot and will be a good ST player (NOT returning punts) for a few years and have a very nice career.

A slightly bigger Wes Welker. Welker is the best case scenario.

His speed is what gave it the big question mark. Now he is showing all the nfl its not speed that matters it is skill.

His Jersey isn't on nfl.com But I bet it will be soon now.

Nm. Guess you just have to do it as custom. Just got one. Hoping his number changes so this jersey will be rare.

Another guy he reminds me of is Keenan McCardell. Spruce is taller than Welker, more like McCardell was. All of them are 4.6-4.65 type guys who had great short area quicks to get open out of breaks and caught pretty much everything.

I keep repeating myself here, but the 40 time can be misleading especially for receivers. How often do they have to run 40 yards in a straight line? Some deep threats do, of course, but I'll gladly take the guy who can get separation from the corner over the first five yards and make a living by being open for the short to intermediate throws. And you don't need blazing straight line speed over 40 yards for that.

Well it was damn fun to watch. He keeps producing every week, even if they end up cutting him, somebody will pick him up. Good start for him and Nik he damn sure should've been drafted imho. Yeah, his speed is probably why he didn't get drafted but how he gets out of routes offsets that a bit. He's not gonna take the top off your D often but that's not who he is anyway. I was surprised at his strength too.
