Sonny Lubick: An Appreciation

Watching the Sonny Lubick Show right now, and I have to admit that I feel sort of sad that he is going out after such a tough season. Say what you want about him, he 1) gave the Lambs the best years they ever had, 2) gave CU fits more often than not, and 3) actually seems to be a pretty good guy, who was popular with his players and everybody else that worked with him.

So, cheers to Sonny Lubick. I wish him all the best. :drink2:

Great post, and rep delivered! It is really sad to see him go out on such a down season, but he did win that last game against Wyoming, so I hope that the CSU fans can at least savor that one last win. Sonny does seem like he is a pretty good guy, and I wish him all the best in the future. I hope for CSU's sake that they'll give hime an associate athletic director position, and he can continue to make some positive contributions to the school.

Cheers to Sonny, and good luck to CSU in their search for a new coach. I hope they find a good one because having good programs in this state is a very good thing for all of us. :drink2:

Good riddance.

Admit it. You're happy to see him go. He gave you guys ulcers even when his team was on the brink of the worst season ever. Barney gave us fits as well and I was more than happy to see him go. Some coaches just have certain team's numbers.

He was 4-9 against the Buffs.

How many of those losses came down to the final minute? Like I said, Barney did the same to NU. So many close games that we won, but still will lead to my early death.

A few for sure, but Sonny's hatred for CU (first game of the year) recently lead to awful seasons. His vindictive nature these last few years probably cost him a few wins. It was time for Sonny to move on. CSU is going to be hurting for a long, long time IMO. They don't have the players they had in the late 90s, bringing coaches in there is tough and the support for that program is virtually nil.

Um, I did admit that I was happy to see him go by saying "good riddance." Read much? :smile2:

Absolutely agree with that. Time for him to go and bring in someone with a new approach to recruiting to try to get them out of flatline.

NO, I wanted him to stay a few years.. Hawk was about to put a half-hundred on his clown ass.. Sonny needed to get a 52-13 pounding from us before he left.. I would have liked to have seen that before he was put out
to pasture..

Very disappointed that's not going to happen now..

F Sonny..

agreed, he was a good man, and coach. CSU will have a hard time replacing him, but there will be some young talent that wants to take a short stint at CSU. I think they will need to use several coaches the next 15 years vs. having one coach stay with the program for that long. what he did with that school and that conference is noteworthy.

What Sonny did at CSU over his career is pretty remarkable. The fact that many CU fans have their panties in a bunch over him is a testament to that.

Sunny is about as classy as those fusker fans we keep hearing about.

Exactly, I've mentioned this before but I had a boss who was a multi year starter when Sonny was his DC and position coach. He has nothing good to say about Sonny; on the contrary he has commented that he wouldn't doubt that Miami's problems under Dennis were more to do with Sonny.

Hmmm, looking at ASU now and CSU, I have a hard time buying that Sonny was the source of the issues. Erickson has proven over many years that he is an asswipe. Didnt you guys see that first hand this year?

Im sure there are plenty of former players on both sides of the fence. Everyone has a different experience. Many of his former CSU players are coming out now in anger over his force out.

Ummmm, have they been watching much CSU football recently? I must be missing something here, what's wrong with approaching Sonny and telling him it's time to step down? The program is in shambles right now. It was pretty freaking obvious it was time for a change, hell it was probably time for a change after last season.

The whole Marcus Houston thing pissed me off. Until he tried to score the game winning TD with MH just to spite CU and it blew up in his face.

Point being, there are many players saying that in a time like this. I would imagine they had a much different experience than Superiors former boss.

agreed. don't think sonny was responsible for much of the Miami BS that took place. Have known him for some time and he is NOT one to run business in that manner. Erickson is an @ss wipe and his teams have always been bothered wth 'issues': Oregon State, Miami, ASU (the number of personal fouls this year vs. CU was unbelievable)

I don't know Sonny, but everyone that I do know that knows him (all of one...) has nothing but good things to say about the guy. He has always seemed like a solid person.

I am sad to see him go, because I actually think he's a great head coach. He did great things for CSU, and honestly, a good CSU team can be good for CU - that is if the games continue. I actually sort of like CSU and want them to do well. How dare I say that you ask? Well...I just don't care too much about CSU. They aren't as good as CU, they will never be as good as CU, so when they do well...I feel happy for the little guys. I don't consider the game a rivalry, and I like seeing CO HS boys do well - even if it's not as sweet if they had gone to Boulder.

Maybe our local troll Sonny and the omnipresent King of the trolls Lou Holz can spend some time together helping each other with their speech impediments.

Agree seemed like a class act - strong MWC football up the interstate benefits the state and the Buffs - I (and probably only I) wish the Rams the best - the stronger they are the better for the Buffs

I used to feel the same way. Then I found Ramnation and all their delusional, asswipe fans.

Fvck CSU. I hope they go 0-12 next year.

Didn't say it was my opinion. He absolutely hates Sonny. Said that Erickson was nothing more than the team drunk. Erickson has certainly proven to be scum without Sonny.
