'18 OK DT Israel Antwine (SIGNED to COLORADO)

I think Antwine playing a Malik Jackson role for the Buffs is a good proposition. We will need a good rotation/push at nose, which may be helped if guys like Antwine can focus guard attention away from guard/center double teams up the middle. Our LBs are going to need to be more athletic and more efficient tacklers for this to work! I think some of our pickups today are good steps in that direction.

Great story! Sounds like a great kid!

This blew my mind though...."That along with the depth chart at Colorado -- before signing day, they had six D-lineman. After signing day, they're up to nine now, and I think Oklahoma State is at about 17."

No wonder they kicked our asses.

A big part of that is how guys are listed because at least half our OLBs would be listed as DEs at OSU. So not as bad as that number looks, but still very light at the position group.

No wonder we are hiring a new DL coach.

Interesting clarification...thanks. Israel's point is still a good one...he should be able to compete for a starting position as a true frosh.

Right?!? He talked about moving here...I’m sure he’s seen the cost of living in Boulder. Ouch.
Meh. He could live plenty of places just outside Boulder County (Broomfield, Arvada, Westminster, Thornton, etc.) without it being crazy expensive. Biggest issue is the lack of inventory for finding a home.

Here is another Antwine article Coach Eliot shared on twitter. I really think this kid will be fun to watch over his college career. Seems bright and passionate about the game.

This kid could be the real deal. Defense allowed 5.6 points avg his senior year. Interesting note is they mentioned Jeffcoat as a factor to convincing him. What role did JJ have in Antwine's recruitment?

Secondary recruiter as the position coach. Eliot was the lead.

Left is 3*-84 grade; #82 DT Israel Antwine’s offer list with a composite score of .8588. Right is 5*-98 grade; #1 DT Josh Belk’s offer list with a composite score of .9529. Not so much a complaint or anything, just illustrating how damn good Antwine’s offer list was (Belk’s was better but still!). Antwine had a bit of a unique situation, but I think if you think of his offer list as a low 4* (at the very least), it doesn’t sound so unreasonable to expect early contributions. This guy is a BEAST.

There's a nice write-up on 247s right now from someone who just met Antwine and his dad at an event. Worth reading. It will get you even more excited.

Sounds like he's at a well put together 305 lbs and ready to go. (y)
I'm slightly surprised we have locked him in to SDE. Does he get any run as a 0 tech NT, or do we think he is so explosively we want him at SDE?

I think this is a "Best players play" philosophy....Antwine seems to be a rare talent, which CU hasn't experienced much in the last two decades, and needs to be on the field in 2018. I love this approach and confidence in the true freshman for many reasons, including the perception for any recruit looking at CU and the opportunity for playing time.

Nice getting an DL guy big enough to play from day one. What a monster.
