so, the bdc has an article on the Buffs' bowl prep. they compare and contrast gb's methods with hawk's... apparently gb didn't require any s/c training and such. hawkins has them working hard.

they asked hugh charles which he preferred and he said he liked gb's method better, but that he thought hawkins' method would have them readier for the game. what a shock! of course, the guy would prefer not to go thru a pittman s/c session and voluntary 7 on 7 drills. but, at the end of the day, with all of our young'uns, this is really going to help the program. and, no offense at all to hugh (he's a favorite of mine), but one thing that will be good is that when all the gb players have graduated, we won't have any more "compare and contrast" stories. the players will only know one way: hawkins' way.

this isn't a knock on gb. but, it does illustrate how hard a coaching change can be, even after 2 full years.

I remember when GB fired Kreis who was widely considered one of the best strength coaches in the country. I want to say the incident involved a qB doing a clear and jerk or something that led to him being injured. Beck was it? GB sounds like he was a little soft on the strength thing and that showed once we squared off against a top 10 team.

I am all for solid s&c and glad to hear they are not taking any focus off of its importance. That strength is an absolutely crtical component of our success in the trenches. I want to see many games in the future where the opposing lineman have their tongues dragging on the ground after fighting our guys for 3 quarters...Alabammer hopefully will show this fatigue.

Give 'em hell Hawk and don't take that foot off the pedal!

BTW...it pains me to even hear the mention of Tharp.

And they are not just building physical strength. The mental strength gained from knowing you were going hard while you're opponent was getting fat on elf cum (I mean egg nog) will pay huge dividends in the 4th quarter on bowl day. Adversity reveals character, bowl prep is no time to lay off that quest.

Its division 1 football right?

one of the most baffling episodes of Barney's tenure was in a press conference after Florida State had played on TV the night before, the announcers had made some comment about FSU's team strength. something that there 28 players on the team who could do some weight lifting technique at x weight y times. the announcers were really impressed.

Barney wondered out loud that he became curious how many players we had, so he had to go check and there were like 4. the upshot was it was pretty apparent that GB was pretty out of touch with the actual day to day S&C stuff.
