did anyone else see this or hear what happened? I know he got really hurt but that was one of the funniest things I have ever seen lol

They were launching the shirts and we heard the gun go off but looked up and nothing was in the air and then when we looked down at chip he was on the ground, looked like he got taken out by a sniper. Then a group of 10-15 people came over and huddled around him so no one could see him. Best part is he kept the suit and hat on the whole time even when they carried him off the field. There was also a puddle on the ground where he was laying so I wonder if he pissed himself lol.

I hate to laugh, but ****ing a...

Radio broadcast provided commentary.

A cart rushed from the N EZ to wherever Chip’s mishap took place.
He got lifted on a stretcher and hauled away. They said Chip was giving the fans both thumbs up as he was driven off the field.

They mentioned his return later in the game.

I hope someone uploads footage of the incident.

The sound was really loud - closer to the cannon CSU fires (as Bass mentioned above) than the normal t-shirt cannon sound. Chip laid there for a long time, and eventually got carted off. On the cart, Chip was sitting, waving, and kicking his legs while they were dangling during the ride.

Strange for sure, but the most strange things was how long it took the male cheerleaders to come over there and for people to spread the word that Chip was down. I was wondering if it was heat stroke and/or embarrassment, as the whole incident was kind of strange. I hope that Chip is okay. I'm guessing they'll be back to slingshots and cheerleader throws after that incident.

There’s more than one Chip. They’re quite expendable

What number Ralphie are we on, by the way? V?
Yes, Blackout. But there are three Chips at a time, I think. They rotate through events. I’m guessing most people know, though it’s not necessarily public.

One of the Chips during the 1990 season was a neighbor of mine. He used to skateboard on the COLORADO in the end zone. One game he got arrested for public drunkeness in the suit. I always liked that guy.

then a few years ago at the UMass Game pre-party the night before in Boston one of the Chips was sparking up in the bathroom after taking off the costume while I was in there. I came out and sat down and a few minutes later I notice a bouncer rousting him out of the place. Good times.

The cannon went off harder or earlier than expected. Slid out of his grip and the recoil hit him right on the point of his hip. They took him on the cart as a precaution and checked him out for any real damage. Just a very large bruise on his side. Chip will be fine.
