In conference, USC is the last one we haven't beaten.
Since we joined the P12, the only team we haven't beaten besides SC is UW. I think.
But USC is the only one we've never beaten.

Road wins are tough. A win this weekend would be huge. But CU has more than the USC monkey on its back.
Since joining the PAC-12, CU is .219 on the road (7-25) against conference foes. Respect will be earned after proving that CU is something other than a cupcake suitable for homecoming.
Since 2011, when CU joined:
Zero road wins versus USC, ASU, Cal, UCLA*, UW*
One road win versus UofA, O, Stanford, Utah & WSU
Two road wins vs OSU

In addition to the above prediction, Montez will run for 2 TDs because the SC d-backs will have their hands full trying to cover Shenault and Brown.

This will be the first set of WRs that can actually test our secondary. I'm still not sold on Daniels though.
I'd say Harry and Darby were WRs capable of actually testing our secondary. Outside of Harry's 3 catches against Wigley and Darby's long ones against Wigley and Fisher/Worthington, our DBs seemed up to the task.
Nebraska's WR's toasted our safeties. We were two dropped TDs from a very different game.
Yeah JD Spielman is a good player. I get that Amon Ra St. Brown was a 5* kid and he's a good player, but he isn't the best receiver we've seen this year.

Don't have to worry about the threat of the QB run this Saturday though. Makes life easier on Fisher and Worthington.
Anytime you say you are cool, it pretty much guarantees you are not.
Agreed. I've only seen him in one game, but he doesn't have the production of the other WR's we've faced.
Wildcard: I think Miller took over starting CB2 after that last TD given up by Wigley. He has seemed solid every time he's been in there, but he has very few snaps. I think it's safe to expect him to get caught out on something tricky. But hopefully he's able to overcome that by being a guy that makes plays when he is there instead of just being the guy who is always in the right place to make plays... but doesn't.
I'm still trying to figure out what we were doing on that Darby bomb. We were obviously expecting a run, but Fisher was playing man on the outside defending Darby, and Chris Miller looked like he was in zone playing safety. We may just have been out of alignment.
I'm pumped to see what Miller can bring to the defense. As nik has said, one of the top three athletes on the team

Abrams blitzed off the corner, which he did to start off the drive prior. Fisher was covering his guy and got beat when we didn't get to the QB. I think that was one where they just caught us blitzing. Tip of the cap and all that.
Also - to give Wigley some credit, Harry abuses lots of corners.
While true, the coaches need to recognize an obvious mismatch much sooner and make a change. Instead, they allowed Wigley to stay on Harry until Wigley finally got beat by Darby for the TD (beat Worthington too). Wigley has experience and is a good depth player and CB3, but should not be a starter for this team.

What’s up with Nick Fisher? Is he a better corner than safety? I keep waiting for Fisher to flash this season. I’m still waiting.
Fisher got burned when he was covering Darby one on one. I just think he's an average Pac 12 Safety
I'm no defensive guru but it seems like we have had to use him more with coverage help and as run control as opposed a true roving safety role. The D Scheme seems to trust the CBs on an island as opposed to having help over the top. (I could be wrong so please correct me if I am)

Do you think he is playing in the best place for his skillset? What would you think about him at corner opposite Abrams in some situations?
Is there enough depth at safety to move Fisher around?
I think he's better at Safety where he can play man to man with TEs and RBs, rather than WRs. I just don't think he's fast or quick enough to be a CB, and I feel like he bulked up over the last few years in order to be a Safety specifically. The defensive scheme is going to ask him to play coverage vs WRs from time to time, but as we saw on Saturday, it's not a great matchup for CU, IMO.

Thanks. Fisher made such a big first impression with a big time open field tackle that kept Wazzou(?) From converting a key 1st down.
And his decision to take that 103 yard pick six out of the endzone against Cal was really fun.
Between those two plays, he became one of my favorites on D.
I would agree with you about his performance being average this season. He’ll need to step it up to play in the pros.
I need an interception or two and some drive killing tackles from Fisher to get the taste of that Darby TD our of my mouth.

I've been running the C-Unit account on Twitter for awhile and active on Buffs Twitter for awhile but figured it was time to come over here. Got to think CU will get killed in the trenches in this game which makes me pretty nervous. Same as Nebraska we just don't compete on size and will need some huge turnovers and to play mistake free to win this one. If we take this game I think a lot of people will start paying attention to the Buffs but I'm not holding my breath.
The Buffs got dominated in the trenches in the first half of the Nebraska game and the DL got dominated in the first half against ASU. The second half in both games were a different story, though, and the Buffs DL and OL held their own (and even dominated at times) after schematic adjustments. UCLA front seven is very big and talented and that didn’t matter; CU dominated.
Has USC dominated anyone in any aspect of the game this year? Serious question as I haven’t really watched much of them this year. They seem like a pretty mediocre team this year, so I’m not sure why we are assuming they are just going to dominate the trenches against us, outside of what the star and recruit rankings suggest.

Is that why it seemed ASU just straight gave up on the pass. It was like they weren’t even trying - is that because our Dbacks finally started to lock it down.

Ryan Abrahams, the 247 coverage guy for USC, broke down the Trojans this way: there is enough talent at USC for them to sleepwalk to a P12 South championship this year.
Both he and Dave (from 247’s UCLA site) predict the Buffs to cover the 7pt spread, but lose the game.
The only team USC dominated was UNLV. Their other wins are by one score. Thier offense hasn’t clicked and they got thumped by UT and Stanford.
They have a home win streak, a big trophy room, a sick blue blood history, and the potential to play up to their talent level. Not sure about their focus, QB play or depth at safety.
I hope CU catches them sleepwalking in a trap game. The Buffs need this win.
