CU officially hires Mel Tucker as new Head Football Coach

Love the hire!
Buffs are better today than yesterday just because of Coach Tucker
Everyone needs to get on board and stop the subtle racist or other just stupid takes, cause these players will play hard for Coach Tucker (The Marshmallow man is gone, sorry)
WE now need to all push the same direction and give maximum effort towards supporting the staff and the team, especially with attendance
We CAN win the PAC12 within the next 1-3 years with this staff, most of this roster, and a few more solid players
Welcome to Boulder Coach Tucker
Glad to have you
Go Buffs

I don't know about anyone else, but the only thing I think about his race is that it's awesome that 1/3 of the head coaches in the conference and a full half of the coaches in the division are African American.

This will be my last post on All Buffs. But I couldn’t not say something. Who the **** ever made a subtle racist remark?

Out.

So your concern is that his expectations of a football team may be too high? I can live with that.

Oh heck, just football-wise I think that just his style and presence (from what we've heard) is likely worth an extra 2 wins even without much of an immediate talent upgrade. I think the Football Culture he'll bring will be invaluable.

That's where I'm at. I think if he brings in the right staff that that impact on the record lays a foundation for where it goes as he starts bringing in Top 25 classes.

BTW, for those not enamored with the hire, this board rarely gives a free pass. If Tucker is not elevating recruiting next spring, no one will be shy about voicing criticism.
I think I might just dig in on this one and put myself 100% behind Tucker no matter where the groupthink might go. I'm just so damn supportive of the direction for the program to go with leadership, recruiting and a big tent background of DC at tOSU, NFL and UGA plus AHC at Bama. It's exactly what I think CU needs. How can I not rise or go down with that ship?

Jeebus. I just checked in to see if there was an update and people are still up in arms about Tucker?

Get over it folks. He’s gonna be the HC of our Buffs. I for one will be fully supporting him and our Buffs to take the next step and winning some football games.

RG knows what he is doing. Let’s get behind this hire and the program.

I mean, the recruiting bump should be noticeable in the 2020 class.

I suppose if I squint I can see how someone wouldn't like Tucker.

If you value:
-someone from the region
-prior HC experience
-proven to do more with less
-able to navigate the stupidity that is CU admin

then I guess Tucker isn't your guy.

For me, I didn't really want prior HC experience. I wanted a young guy. An innovative guy. A monster recruiter.

I don't really know how much to value region. If Tucker just hires a bunch of SEC/ACC guys for his staff and they can't figure out how/where to recruit in our footprint, that's an issue. I don't really know what HC experience gets you beyond knowing the day to day. This guy has been around some of the best guys in the business, hopefully he was paying attention.

Who knows how he'll navigate the CU admin? Are we sure Leavitt or Tedford would've done so effectively either? Maybe CU admin needs a tough mother****er to walk in there and tell them to back up so the big dog can eat?

Hiring a coach is always hit or miss. Some programs with all the money in the world can't stop ****ing it up (Trojan). Maybe we'll be right back here in 4 years, but I bet if he fails, we'll at least be stocking the cupboards for the next guy. Next guy isn't walking into whatever the **** we have at RB. Or the mess on the OL. Or the lack of an entire position so bad that our starter up and quit halfway through the season.

After seeing the clips of Tucker getting congratulations today, I think the likelihood of his hire is high.

Tucker was not my first choice. However, I do think he meets the main criteria for an upgrade at the HC level:

1. Great resume
2. Great recruiter
3. Has experienced failure and rebounded
4. His players love and respect him
5. Top level coaches love and respect him
6. Has paid his dues for two decades while learning from some of the best in the business

When macintyre was fired, these are some of the most sensible standards that we discussed. Now that it looks like we’ve got a candidate who meets those criteria very well, I think we should all get behind him.

Totally agree. I didn’t have a dog in this race but followed the threads to get an idea of who I liked. I’m trusting RG on this one and I think getting a guy from Georgia will be beneficial. I for one appreciate your mature response to us (likely) hiring the candidate you weren’t pulling for.

I'll second that. I'm not sure I've ever seen a more toxic environment, it's kind of shocking that it's allowed to continue. This place could be so much better.
People are allowed to have a different opinion. I don't understand why we'd moderate someone saying they don't like the hire.

Come on man, we just hired a coach, and we know nothing about his staff, recruiting strategy, style, etc. Sounds like Bulldog fans hate to see him go, sounds like he has overall positive support from all national writers, sounds like he can recruit and his team doesn't suck.

And you want to blame people here being positive about this hire? I mean, try to have some fun man.

BTW, for those not enamored with the hire, this board rarely gives a free pass. If Tucker is not elevating recruiting next spring, no one will be shy about voicing criticism. Same if there are questionable coaching staff hires.

More groupthink.
