CU officially hires Mel Tucker as new Head Football Coach

Oh I know. It just seems logical that if one were to say, it would be the only one who has consistently recruited decently. I personally believe MT would look the offensive performance this year and immediately say WR coach only or leave

There are certainly also those who are strong supporters, who see athletics as an integral part of the college experience and benefit to the school. I have no idea of the percentages but most probably fall in the group you identified, those who simply don't put a lot of thought into it either way. Those who give it no more concern than they do some other academic department or the landscaping and grounds department.

Unfortunately out of those small numbers there tend to be the ones who are more vocal about it. Same applies with those who's views are outliers but they end up running for office and getting elected as a regent.

My wife has been a professor at CU for 14 years and she supports the football team but is constantly bitching about all the new buildings being thrown up on campus and the golden parachutes that football coaches get once they are fired (She has gone through 4 now). All while the profs don't get the benefit of the contracts these guys make. While I agree with her to a point, I also point out it is the new buildings and football that elevate the image of the University. It is just the world we live in. She doesn't like it but she gets it.

I think most of us wish that we lived in a world where educators and researchers made the kind of money people in the entertainment industry make. But that is not our world and football is the primary property of the entertainment arm of the CU enterprise.

He pretty much has to keep Chev in my opinion. There is not one HS player or coach who knows who really knows who Tucker is. There's A LOT of work to be done here in Colorado let alone west of the Rocky Mountains in engaging with coaches and players. Keeping Chev saves at least 3-4 on the fence recruits this year and keeps the recruiting connections intact as much as possible going forward. Tucker will save himself a ton of work and stress by keeping Chev.

Most profs also aren’t expected to produce multi-million dollar entities that benefit the university. Profs also have a very different metric of success and retainment. Just different sides of the coin. I would also be curious as to what percentage the AD gets of the entire CU funding profile from all aspects. I’m guessing it’s single digits but granted there are a few big hitters, like coaches salaries.

I agree with you, but I don't know if I think Tucker is that far behind the eight ball-He was an NFL DC for close to a decade. He's been an interim HC in the NFL. He's got two national championship rings (Ohio State 2002, Alabama 2015). People know who he is, but he's got a fair amount of networking ahead of him for sure. He'll be fine though.

My last post on this subject because I want to stop derailing this thread - but my experience in Boulder is that the faculty is mostly indifferent. My father-in-law was a prof here for 45 years in the Philosophy department, and he didn't give a hoot about athletics. The only time he complained was some minor grumbling about having to fill out different forms and such for athletes because they have extra academic advising... but he only complained about that because he was busy with lots of other crap.

I heard one staff member complain about the Champions Center one time, but this same staff member complained about the Center for Community or lots of the other massive new capital projects.

I continue to be amazed (or maybe baffled is the right word) at how educated and intelligent people can get so shortsighted and nasty when a vote comes around regardless of what the vote is for, or which side of that vote they are supporting.

Don't throw the entire board of regents in with 2 morons.
 
Be careful making assumptions with KD and likeability. More than a few teammates questioned his lack of "team first" process this past season, from what I've heard.
