Mike MacIntyre officially takes Ole Miss DC job

Who gives a rip about MM. Our coach is Mel Tucker. Let the ex-wife go quietly. I personally think that Ole Miss is over his head as far as recruiting and coaching kids at that level. I think he is a nice guy, even a good guy, but he is a perfect G5 coach. There will be an offset, because he is supposed to make the effort to get a coaching job. Likely there was communication between us and him. Good luck, no more discussion about MM.
Anyone who cares about CU football cares about this, doesn't seem difficult.

I care that money we could use elsewhere is recovered or saved and deployed in an enhanced recruiting operation, or other better places, but I want to move forward with the new staff and the new way of life as soon as possible is all I was saying. RG is ready to move forward and spend appropriately.

Listen, I will be done with these thoughts:
I liked Mike! He seemed like a good hire at the time we needed him
We could have done better, but we know who was in charge at the time
I stood up for him during any discussion about Colorado, and was proud of 2016
We are better off with what he did up to a point, and we all know that point is 5-7
The contract he got in 2016 was not warranted at the level and with the contract language it had (RG Mistake)
He deserved to be fired when he was fired, period!
He went out way to be whiny and selfish on his last moments and tarnished a bit of his good will
I wish him luck at Ole Miss, but I do not think his defenses will be that good
I pray the offset discussion and negotiation goes our way and we get as much money as possible back to spend more wisely.
Good night and good bye

an extra 1.5m a year on assistants is big impact for CU, that's why we care

Last time he was at Ole Miss, I think he recruited both Eli Manning and Patrick Willis. MM is actually a good recruiter himself. He was the difference in a lot of guys we got at CU who were wavering near signing day. As the head guy, though, he didn't make recruiting the top priority for everyone on staff. Which was very weird to me since he gets it personally.

Yeah, sorry, I guess I’m lame because I don’t pay attention to every failed and fired coach’s next job position. Ya got me. Which is why I asked you forum nerds for the answer.

Those of you who answered - I love ya, you excellent and honorable shining examples of the grandeur of forum nerds. Thanks.

That hurts Ralph

It only takes a modicum of attention to ESPN, your favorite newspaper, or virtually any other sports news source to realize that coaching is an up and down game, not "every failed and fired coach."

Of course - I was just asking...jeez. I.e. Coaches such as MM who came up from G5 as a HC then had some success, but ultimately shown the door at a P5 program like ours, do they tend to become DC's at other P5, HC at a lower level, or NFL assistants, HC at the same level....ah screw it whatever. I'm sure the answer is "it depends". Just seems sad that MM is a good head coach, but not "next level", and now he's doomed to being a DC...I suppose I was expecting him to pull a Hawkins and just take another HC job at a lesser school, rather than a DC position at a lesser school.

I liked MM but it was time for him to go. Every time I think it is sad, that he can’t get a head P5 job I remind myself that he over 12 million in the six years he was here and is going to make AT LEAST 10 million over the next 3 years. After that, I don’t feel bad for him anymore.

MacIntyre, Eliot, and presumably Roper (I'm expecting CMT to announce who is staying on staff early this week) all getting other jobs is good news. Wish those guys the best and whatever we don't have to pay them we can re-invest into the program.

why was the language on MM's contract so specific on offsets? Who can we blame? obviously if your coach is getting let go in contract things aren't going well and they aren't likely to go head coach somewhere else.

That didn't seem like an unusual contract stipulation to me, fwiw.

Getting weary of the MM hate. Dude brought us back from the dead, and we're much better off for his efforts here. Ill be rooting for him at Ole Miss.

I was thinking today of the pipeline at QB that we had when he got here. If I remember right, it was Connor Wood, Shane Dillon and Stevie Joe Dorman. (Jordan Webb tore his ACL in April). After spring ball, Dillon (who was absolutely atrocious) went home, leaving the QB depth chart in July at Connor Wood and Stevie Joe Dorman. Frosh Sefo Liufau hadn't quite yet gotten to campus. Jordan Gerhke was signed in a panic.

Think about that....

I care about CU football and have no hatred for MM or the staff but can we stop acting like MM has Bill McCartney cred here? Eliot was here 2 years. I wish them both good luck and hope they do well at their new jobs.

snow is saying we should care because we have a vested interest in all of the former staff getting jobs elsewhere so we don't have to pay them and we can pay new better coaches.

My bad, I wrongly quoted snow instead of another post. Your explanation is spot on.

It isn't very specific at all. Though it states that income from a college HC job or an NFL job will offset what CU owes MM, it does not specifically state that other jobs will not offset. Also, it includes a duty for MM to mitigate damages by finding new employment and requires him to provide notice of any job he takes.

Usually an unclear clause like this is evidence of an issue the contracting sides disagree about and it ends up being left vague. I guess MM could hold out for the entire amount owed and argue than only a college HC job or NFL job offsets, but that's clearly not what the contract says. There is always a general duty to mitigate damages in contract cases, even if it's unwritten in the contract, and courts are usually loathe to give one party a windfall. I think he loses that litigation, or, at least, it's uncertain enough that the parties will agree on some offset based on his current salary at Ole MIss.

Please show me where anyone has given him the real Mac treatment.
