Is there an assumption, or anything confirmed, that Ross Els maintains the ST Coach position as well? The articles I've seen on the retention only mention "ILB Coach".

Don't you think Chev will be working out there? I'm thinking we might want to shift areas anyway, the big beef is out east, I say we get in there and start grabbing prospects. We have tons of competition for west coast players and there aren't many campuses that can match CU out east.

(FS) Colorado: Former Maryland defensive line coach Jimmy Brumbaugh will join the Colorado staff tweets Bruce Feldman. Brumbaugh had been slated to join Kansas’ staff before, well it’s complicated. End of the day, Colorado defensive line coach Kwahn Drake wound up at Kansas and Jimmy B at Colorado.

Apparently, Brumbaugh turned KU down so they went after Drake. This opened up the CU job and allowed us to hire Brumbaugh.

We're gonna find out now. The remaining positions coach spots (particularly TE and CB) are usually spots where aggressive recruiters are hired. We need some more Texas and California ties on this staff.

The lack of ties to California and Texas could potentially be a problem, but I like the hires anyway.

I think it can be. Why not? We either go west coast or east coast and I don't see a lot of PAC-12 recruiting out east. I think I read somewhere that players where getting bigger out east so even with the big SEC schools grabbing the top players there's probably better leftovers out there.
Personally, I don't give a crap where players come from, just get 'em in here. Let's do this.

CU recruiting in PAC12 country hasn't worked, so I would take SEC country if we can get them.

While I necessarily wouldn’t disagree with you. If CU puts immense focus on California and Texas (Chev) and uses his contacts based on the rapport he has with those schools I don’t see why our new coaches can’t get in the door based on history and have success. Follow that up with Tucker, summers, Brumbaugh and Johnson all being east coast/southern guys I don’t see why that wouldn’t open the door similarly. We’re either going to fail spectacularly or this could be the beginning of us being able to walk into the south and pull some prospects without endangering what we’ve built in the west. Or I’m talking out of my ass and I’m just a jaded CU fan looking for the light wherever it can be found at this point.
Both are true. Chiv will do a road show to introduce folks out west once he gets to know their personalities, fit.

Focus must be CA, TX and CO. After that foundation & focus, CU can recruit nationally though.

Fair assessment.
It should trend that way, but I won't be surprised if it takes a few years to get there. Since we have a bunch of eastern guys they will go with what they know as they build up relationships locally, or if they move on I think they will be replaced with more footprint coaches as Tucker becomes more comfortable out here.
Sticking predominantly to traditional recruiting areas is the familiarity factor. Less kids will dismiss interest out of hand simply because they know CU, know someone who went there, their coach has sent kids there, etc.
When you’re outside of that, you do run the risk of kids ignoring the interest because they don’t know anything about CU. It can lead to a lot of effort and resources wasted with less payoff.
I’d be concerned if Chev weren’t already here. I think the focus will be expanded, but I doubt Cali/west coast will be de-emphasized much if at all.

I don't think the DL hire can be described as anything but an upgrade. But we are out of room for non Poly/West Coast/Texas recruiters. Also, that's a LOT of experience on this coaching staff. Time for some young foot soldiers.
At some point we should probably hire an assistant who has actually stepped foot into a California/Texas HS and who the HS coaches there know on a first name basis. Just a thought.
