***OFFICIAL 2019 CU FOOTBALL FALL CAMP THREAD***

Living in the now for one, You make a great case for yourself and that's fine. Others will see things differently like me it's all good I don't think the guys seeing CU at 5 or fewer wins will be upset if CU wins 6 or more. This staff is light years ahead of the previous staff in every facet, for once one can see that the players really did get bigger, stronger, and faster. I'm hoping the guys who pick 7 plus wins are correct.

Here's what I think may happen:

CSU - W
Corn - W
Airforce - W
ASU - L
UA - W
Oregon - (?) Maybe The Montez Magic will be reincarnated
WSU - L
USC - L
UCLA - W
Stanford - W
Washignton - L
Utah - L

I think its highly Variable this year, if we come out of the gates 3-0 I think we will have anywhere between 6-8 wins. Hopefully we can steal a win or two from WSU or USC (We are due. This may be the year to beat USC). It sounds to me like if our D-line and secondary step up and we avoid injuries we may end up having a good year. Let's just start by getting that extremely important W against CSU in MT's opening game.

1 likely Biletnikoff Finalist
1 likely Butkus Award Finalist
2 defenders named to the Butkus award watch list
2 defenders named to the Nagurksi Trophy and Bednarik Award
2 offensive players named to the Maxwell Trophy watchlist
1 QB on the O'Brien watch list
1 OL on the Rimington watch list
1 P on the Ray Guy award watch list
1 player on the Walter Camp award watch list

You don't have that type of recognized talent on your roster and finish with 3 wins, if your coaching staff has an ounce of competence.

Hard to make the case that this staff doesn't have that.

Let's talk about this last sentence for a second-We need to mudhole little brother. They're BAD. If that game looks more like it did in 2017 than it did last year or in 2016, we've got issues.

The CSU game should be a relatively easy win. However, let’s keep in mind this is MTs first game as head coach at CU. There will be a learning curve. I’d stop short of predicting a loss, but it could be closer than we would prefer. A 14-17 point win wouldn’t shock me.

****, that’s nothing. Wear a pair of cargo shorts in public or mention a recruits ranking dropped after committing.
You guys will both survive this. Now, for that poor bastard, who was photographed wearing a pair of capri shorts at a Sacky's gate event, I cannot say the same for.

CSU Lost their line and their wide receivers. I don't think there is any way the Buffs lose this game. It's going to be really interesting to see how the Buffs perform in this game and will give a much clearer picture of what kind of season we are going to have. If we come out and dominate like last year it will be a good year. If they come out and there's all kinds of missed assignments and mental errors and the D gives up a bunch of points it could be a long year.

MacIntyre, who had been a head coach at the G5 level, beat CSU by 14 in his first game at CU with a roster that had a fraction of the talent.

I don't think we're going to lose it either, and frankly I'd be STUNNED if we don't cover the 10-11 we're giving in Vegas. If we see the sloppy, penalty filled game we saw in 2017, we've got issues.

It's not like MT is a rookie. He should know what to do because he's been there before. What kind of learning curve are we talking about? It's not like we're going up against Clemson.

He is a rookie head D-1 college football coach. This is the first time he’s put together his staff. It’s the first time he’s been in charge of the entire game plan. I agree he has been around the block, but he still will have things thrown at him that he’s never dealt with before. I’m optimistic about this game, and don’t think it should ever truly be in doubt, but a 30-40 point mudholing would surprise me (pleasantly).

He was a game planner and head coach in the NFL for a number of games too.

Lol that’s bad. People can hate on cargo shorts all they want, I don’t care. That’s what we wore in high school, that’s all we wore. There will always be at least one pair of A&F cargo shorts in my closet, everything else is board style shorts.

I am really hoping that all the hype about MT is accurate and we wont see what looks like a step back in game planning. MT is so closed lipped at these post practice interviews, its the same response to every question. Really tough to gauge what he is doing with the team strategically. I fully believe in MT and the staff, but it bothers me that they seem to think they are managing a UGA/BAMA type team when they aren't. We saw how well the NFL pro/all business mentality worked out with Embree.

Let’s see if I got this right. You are apprehensive that they are running the program like an Alabama or a UGA team, even if the talent isn’t there yet? How is that even a remotely bad thing?

I see what you are saying, but if they expect the same UGA results out of the gate with a CU team that couldn't beat power house Oregon State, it's going to be a bad look.

Again, what does your comment about running the program like BAMA/UGA have to do with anything? What specifically are you referring to and why should CU not be able to do that?

Thank you.

Also, the one question HCMT has dodged every time he has been asked has been the one about offensive and defensive systems. He constantly diverts the question into talk about hiring veteran coordinators who would craft things toward the abilities of the talent on hand rather than making the rookie mistake of forcing a system.

There's truth to that, but also know there's some b.s. with that. He has never tried to claim that we'd be some systemless "multiple" team like some NFL franchises pull off. There simply aren't enough hours in a practice week and isn't the football IQ or experience with college kids to be able to pull that off. We'll have an identity. We'll have a base offense and base defense. There are certain things that will be called on both sides every game and every season, regardless of opponent and personnel. But they'll decide what and how much of it to install based on what the talent does well and can handle.

As an example, UGA had 1 offense last year. It emphasized different things and looked quite different depending on which QB was playing.

It was the previous staff that didn’t beat OSU. Not this one. I do not see this staff/team folding like last years.

It goes both ways. Some people act like anything less than a 5 TD win spells trouble.

A 14-17 point win with the game never really in doubt is hardly setting expectations low.

Are you really going to freak out if CU "only" wins by 17?
I don’t think I’ve personally put a serious margin of victory expectation on it, but of course I wouldn’t freak out with a 3 score victory. Right now, CU is a 10-12 point favorite, and I think they will cover that with ease. If they don’t and it’s a 7-10 point victory, I’ll still be happy with a W, but pretty disappointed.

Barring some flukey game 1 ish that tightens the score but has nothing to do with game control, I fully agree.

Curious on the backup QB battle-especially after watching Steven get the hell knocked out of him LY.

I get what your saying. But as others have said, he's not like Embree who had no prior head coaching experience. MT has been a head coach and has show at a minimum to be competent in his approach. Couple that with a significant talent gap, should keep everyone at ease. CSU is undoubtedly down this year. And really, Bobo is no game-planning savant. I know you're optimistic - all I'm saying I don't think there is any reason to hedge. I expect a mudholing. Maybe not 30 points, but a dominating victory. Anything less in this game and I'll be disappointed and concerned for the rest of the season.

A solid example of that is Alabama. They still only run the football, right?

This is the first time CMT has had to put a staff together before, but the other stuff you say isn't true. Let's not forget that CMT had that interim HC stint in Jacksonville in 2011 for 5 games-so comparing him to say Jon Embree (as an example) doesn't make sense. He knows what its like to put a gameplan together, and he knows what its like to sit in the big chair.

I expect to beat the goats by 24-28 points. If our 2s give up a TD to their 1s late to make 42-14 42-21 (as an example), I'm not going to lose sleep over it.

MT keeps talking about toughness and effort which are good, but leaves a lot to wonder about how he is going to game plan, and how sharp the execution from a coaching stand point will be. Or will there be FHCMM type errors i.e. not getting plays in, running out the clock on a drive to end the first half, two minute offense, special teams execution, etc.

Bama/UGA were established programs with excellent players and excellent game planning from elite head coaches. I am curious how MT will deal with these challenges and how the execution will look out on the field with CU talent. Game planning with UGA/BAMA/Chicago Bears is different than 5-7 CU.

FWIW, the UGA program Kirby Smart took over was not elite. It was the whole reason they moved on from Richt. The build to a playoff team was hardly an inevitability.
