Official vs Arizona Score Prediction Thread

An extra week to get healthy and an extra week to prepare for Khalil Tate. I really like the way this coaching staff prepared for Jayden Daniels' mobility. Tate isn't going to run for 200 yards like he did against the MacIntyre teams.

Side note, I loathe Arizona. Would much rather see them become our conference rival than Utah

I sense a lack of confidence in our defense. Will we ever, this season, have a D that plays a complete game and not just a third of one?

The defense just doesn’t have the depth or talent at all three levels to be dominant. Buffs are going to play in a lot of high scoring, close games the rest of the season and W/L will come down to whether the defense can get stops in key situations.

48 to 45 buffs. Two top 15 offenses according to the advanced metrics. two bottom 25 defenses.

The biggest problem with our defense is that we have a lack of talent there. There's no getting around it. Now that we're into conference play, we're probably going to be out-athleted from here on out when our defense is on the field, and scheme, conditioning, and try-hard isn't going to be able to overcome it most of the time.

Our gameplan is going to have to be to score a lot of points and hopefully make some key plays on defense - basically what happened against ASU.

Great minds think alike.

At least our D, so far, has been able to create turnovers at opportune times. We need to continue that. Receive turnovers and don’t give them. Easy peasy.

I am waiting for the injury reports closer to the game and tate really worries me. Dude ran for seems like a bajillion miles then following year stop the run and he throws for 1000 yards. I have a lot more faith in this coaching staff, but I am having nightmares still.

That defense gave up 45 to Hawaii (would have been higher had UH taken care of the ball-6 flipping turnovers?) and 45 to Northern Arizona. It's really bad. We need to start like we did Saturday, but we're going to score on them-probably a lot.

Think the offense keeps the defense off the field enough and the altitude takes its toll in the second half. Seems like we usually see at least one blowout win at home a year.
If we can keep grinding out 4 yard runs, I like it. My worry is that Arizona is going to do the same damn thing but add Tate to the mix like they did against TT. How funny would be a 28-21 with each team putting together 8-10 minute drives every time?

Saturday was the first time I felt like there were not glaring blown assignments - and they still got smoked way too often against the Shockers. There is absolutely a talent issue on defense right now.

Other coaching staffs, not the hapless D staff we had, were able to find ways to stop Tate. Why not CU?

Have you seen our defense? And the only coaching staff that has stopped Tate has been his own. Between sumlin and his injuries last year, he was shackled. Not so much this year.

Tate worries the hell out of me running, with our D. I get they are trying to make him work in the pocket more, he can still pull it down when he needs to. Our running game has to be there this week. He can't hurt you watching.

Even back in 17 defenses were able to stop Tate. And yes, Sumlin won’t let him return to old form. So between those two factors I don’t see the fear people have that he’s going to run for 200 yards on us again.

Because he's capable of it, I'd imagine. Got to set the edge, stay disciplined.

Tate's game by game stat line

Week 1: Hawaii - L (45-38) - 56% 361 yards 3TDs 2 INTs, 13 rush 108 yards
Week 2: NAU - W (65-41) - 82% 138 yards 2 TDs, 0 INTs, 2 rush 1 yard, 1 TD
Week 3: TTU - W (28-14) - 61% 185 yards 1 TD, 2 INTs, 17 rush 129 yards, 1 TD

Pretty up and down as both a passer and runner, although we obviously know he has elite running ability. Feels like it depends on how Sumlin decides to use him from game to game.
