Recruiting so far...

What grade would you give Tucker and his staff for their recruiting efforts so far?

Relentless recruiters, thought we'd see an uptick in recruiting with MT but not seeing it at all, especially on the DL. Can't win 6 games to consistently go to bowl games and can't get out of the hole . When is this going to change?

Yep, chicken or egg. Some argue we can't recruit at a higher level until a bowl game, others think we need to recruit at a higher level to make a bowl game. Until one or the other happens, I guess we won't know.

I sure hope we can make a bowl game this year, we desperately need to.

Here's a little inside scoop for you. Got word from a friend of mine who has been speed training local athletes, '17 CO ATH Anthony Lyle had a tryout with the Buffs Saturday and has made the team as a DB, most likely Safety.

Measures at 6'1" 205 Lbs, 40 in the high 4.3 range, 10ft broad jump. I briefly witnessed them training, kid is yolked and athletic as heck! He was at Eastern Michigan playing football but injuries derailed his time there.

Hey hey! Scout Team special teams player of the week.

Pretty sure Ryan is the walk on QB running the scout team. Someone wrote an article about home before the Arizona game.

Thank you. I presumed he was but couldn’t find any information on him at all. He’s not listed on the roster or anywhere on the Colorado website, I had just never heard of him.

He is the QB1 for the Atlanta Falcons in the NFL. He famously took the birds out to a 28-3 lead against New England in the Super Bowl and ultimately New England made the largest comeback in Super Bowl history.

Here is a link to the history of the game: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Super_Bowl_LI

I understand the urgency here, and think we need to lock up some DBs but I think we will be alright and would rather bring in HS DBs.

If healthy Blackmon, Miller and Trujillo should be a good trio at CB. Perry can swing both ways S and CB.

Rakestraw has looked better than I expected and should be a lock with Maddox. Lewis and Noyer provide depth.

And Luckett, Thomas, and Oates hopefully develop.

I think he means we need to bring in talent that is as good or better than those returning??? Better depth than this year??

With the recent attrition, how many scholarships will we have available for this class? How big will it be? I also expect a bit more attrition on top of what’s happened the past few days

I hope we're able to sign 25 while bringing in more than that with transfers added in. Roster needs a major upgrade & talent infusion.

agreed. Maybe Clemson, Alabama or OSU would be willing to trade us rosters?

all kidding aside, I’m worried next year could be even worse.

Win/loss might be same or worse, but at least we will see the new offense with a new QB, and 2nd year of the new scheme on defense. I wish we could just fast forward the remainder of this year and get to next year.

Recruiting will be HUGE for CU. Ideally, until established (3 winning seasons in a row), CU has to be 30-40 nationally and in the top 1/2 of the Pac-12 almost each season. I gave this year a B, but initially thought B- or C+. It will all be up to how the Buffs close. Outside finding a gem at QB + experience in the secondary + 2-3 good-great linebackers, I'm unfortunately circling year 3 under MT for the team turnaround, rather than next year. However, with what ASU has done, who really knows??

With CTE, stronger JUCO classes, and the transfer portal, it is a whole different recruiting game than in years past. Teams almost need a dedicated GM. Young players (especially skill positions) desire to play right away. JUCO is just deeper than ever. Then balancing the transfer portal with your schollie distribution and 25 max players is a true art. Where I think the CTE comes in is for Frosh that get to play in 4 games-- if they see limited time and feel they can start, but perhaps not right away or the next year on their particular team, why not transfer, sit out the season (limited wear and tear on body, another year of great nutrition) on the scout team and look to play that 3rd year with 3 more to play.

Given the exposure of CU's Defense this season, the Buffs need players with differing skill sets. Some recruits, some JUCO and a few transfers may help. Also, given the sit 1 year portal change, I am really shocked at the sheer number of mid-season transfer portal additions already. I don't know if it is a trend or what, but Grad transfers at many positions became starters on many teams. For other players it seems they lock onto transfer=starter and go to where they can play right away after sitting a year.
