Official Buffs vs. USC Game Thread

I'd accept the loss much better had we, at least tried, instead of punting. We flat gave this game away, this should've been a W. Btw, fumble drill this week. Never seen so many ways a team could find a way to beat themselves like tonight, WAKE THE **** UP!!

I disagree with this take. Had they gone for it and not gotten it people would be jumping of sky scrapers because they didn't punt it and get the stop.

Disagree with it all you want, I'd know all I needed to know about the decision to do so, whether it worked out or not.

No. That was a MM staple in close games, so plenty of people would have understood even if the 4th downs failed. Expecting this defense to make a stop when absolutely necessary is just not a smart bet.

Montez was awesome for 3 quarters, then he gets that hit.

I have to question putting him in after. The over the top throws were way off. He turned the wrong way at least twice, on a running play and then play action.

I'm not saying something stupid like Stenstrom would give us a better chance to win, he probably doesn't. From a player safety issue, though, it troubles me that Montez went back in the game.
Agreed - he definitely was not right on his return. Honestly, with Strenstrom in, would have probably went heavy on the run which is what we needed to do more. We were gaining 4 yards when nothing was there - our backs just fall forward and gain yards. Would have eaten the clock.

just don’t understand the play calling in the 4th - just gave them the game.

We miss a FG there or go for it and don't get it they score with 2:30 and we still lose. How many times did USC put the ball on the turf? At least 3 that I saw. They got them ALL back. Coaching.

We say this every year. I am sitting here contemplating going back and reviewing the last 3-4 games against USC. Seriously think about it.

If anyone was saying similar things after the ass-whupping we took last year, they should be committed. This is the closest we’ve come on the field, even including 2016.

That’s why it sucks all the more.

We'll never know. When it happened I was begging for them to fake punt somehow. Why? because I knew for a fact that USC was going to drive down and score. and then they fumbled! And we couldn't simply catch a pass or fall on it.

You're not really saying the coaches are to blame for guys not taking advantage of balls on the turf are you?

Hell, the argument you're making is that punting was the right call. We punted, the defense forced potential turnovers, and we didn't take advantage of them.

At some point the players have to make plays. The coaches can't jump on the ball themselves.

bowl hopes are really bleak

No. I'm arguing a missed FG or a failed 4th down attempt doesnt change much. We get the ball back with closer to 3 left probably needing a TD still. We burned two timeouts early in the 2nd half because of dumb sideline ****-not being able to get the play in on time, etc. That's coaching.

We had the elixir for a horrific loss:

Boneheaded play calls down the stretch
Big penalties go against us that weren’t penalties
Big non calls on their penalties that hurt us
ALL of the ball bounces going their way
OL penalties in the worst scenarios
Drops and bad throws in crucial spots

Colorado were a few different twists away from blowing out USC. Instead, we stepped on our dicks and lost in the worst possible way.

this times a million. I’m still so ****ing god damn pissed off I could break something. I haven’t been this ****ing angry about a loss in any sport for a very long time. There’s so much to say and I can’t convey it without losing my ****.

I will say this. **** those refs for that bull**** game, I hate to be that guy. But that was some absolute horse**** refereeing out there tonight.

Game should have been a blowout but we ****ing blew it, like we always ****ing do.

But mostly **** you Jay Johnson. 20 yards passes on 1st down up 10 ****ing points. I have never seen worse game management in my life.

oh wait never mind...it was just like Arizona. But this could and should have been a blowout.

gahhhhhh. **** this team, being a fan sucks.

If we played them 10 times, theyre better in 9 of them. Tonight we were
Eh, honestly, this SC team is not good. They have some dudes for sure, but this years SC/CU teams are probably 6-4 SC if they played 10 times. This would have been a great win for CU but only on par with Nebraska.

Generally agree that the players made some errors.

Overall:

The players did close to enough.
The coaches did close to enough.
Result was a close loss.

No one did enough to win.

Two words though: Fumble drill.

Fair enough.

The three play sequence where Falo dropped a pick, then knocked a fumble back to the other team, then USC scored was probably an omen.

I’d have taken it and told them and their fans to suck my dick. **** SC.

Of course. Would have been a good win, just like Nebraska was. But this years SC team is decimated with injury just like CU and starting a true freshman QB. This is not the SC of old where this would have been some monumental upset. Pretty evenly matched teams, tbh.

I feel like this could've been the win we all would look to, and said " that's the game when **** started to turnaround".

Are you kidding, this is literally Mac's team minus freshmen. This is Mac's weak mentality players, this is Mac's weak strength players. Mel and his staff have made some horrible decisions on the field, but the players he has to work with is all MAC. I'm sure you think Montez is a future NFL QB too. PSH the dufus is going to be playing flag football in Denver just like Sefo.
Sefo plays flag football, is he any good?
