Mel Tucker leaves CU for Michigan State

the denial got issued. that is what mattered. the commitment was reaffirmed. that is what mattered.

i do not believe that the die hards here, waking up to the reported news that their 5-7 first year head coach who just finished his first full recruiting class was "going to interview" for the msu job, "overreacted."

Fair enough. It was the new 73 posters that added so much value.

Tucker’s #UnfinishedBusiness seems a bit premature. The shop just opened and there’s not even any bowl game gear.

We got lucky today. Mel's recruiting and improved "culture" will keep attracting attention and staff poaching. Mel turned down a potential $10,000,000 raise and $2,000,000 per year budget increase. No rational person will continue to say 'no thank you' for long. The PAC 12 networks is our only way out.

When a NFL team hires a college coach that just got fired (Kiffsbury), head coaching searches have never been the same.

What does it say about msu? A team/school in a "premium" conference, big tv deal, history, fertile recruiting grounds, etc. Looking at a 1st year coach with a 5-7 record.

That's not a very high bar.

Rooneys article is downright stupid and unnecessary!!! Annoyed me just reading it. He starts by hypothesizing about who initiated what and about money. We will pay Tucker if and when we need to! Agreed that PAC 12 Network needs to pop, or please go ahead and sell a 49% stake in it while it is worth something! We can take the cash and make things happen.

Okay, Wilner's happy with the timing, I can't argue against it. And Tucker's statement from the NoCal meet n greet of CU being a destination job aligns with how I read his initial statements on taking the job: that he waited for the right job, that he would be here a long time, assuming he wins. I'm back in that place.

If I’m Rick George, and I’m considering ripping up Tucker’s contract and giving him a raise, I’m doing it with the caveat that the buyout if Tucker leaves is going to be much much higher than it was the first time around.

This.

I don't want to make this into something that's going to cause people to take sides or dig in. We are all on the same side here.

But people have got to wrap their heads around the fact that if we're swimming in the deep end:

- Other schools will try to hire Mel Tucker away
- Other schools will try to poach our assistants
- Many of our recruits will be playing up the drama during their recruitment and other schools will be trying to poach our commits
First world problems, but still problems.

FYI...the next scheduled CU Board of Regents meeting is set for this coming Thursday and Friday. If any salaries for MT or the assistants are increased/extended for 2020 they will be announced at that time.
I'm very curious to see which assistants receive raises and/or a 2nd year added back onto their contracts.

Don’t be surprised if this had nothing to do about money.
???

Are you talking about Tucker and whatever dialog occurred between him and RG around the MSU report?

I'm curious about that, too, but I was posting simply about the assistant pool since this is usually when we see adjustments that tell us whose star is rising or falling.

Assume the msu thing never happened. Seriously, pretend it didn't happen.

I'm still really curious which assistants got raises, which ones got additional years added to their contracts, and maybe more importantly, which ones didn't.

Yes, that’s what I was referring to, because of the thread we’re in. But I see what you’re saying.

Fair enough. But, it did happen...Not necessarily in a bad way either
