Karl Dorrell officially named Colorado HC

So far Urban Meyer and Dave Logan have been mentioned on this board with what I assume we’re straight faces. We’ve certainly got both ends of the “no chance in hell” spectrum covered.
McCartney part II; it's like Bill Snyder part II, right?

Oddly enough, I’m not all that upset. Perhaps it’s a realization that this is how things work these days. No sense getting overly upset about it

The entire P5 coordinator pool is at RG's disposal. Interim coach would essentially mean a wasted 2021 class. RG will make the right decision and go find a permanent coach.

Forcing the wrong hire now with a shallow talent pool that's been picked clean over the last 2 months could mean wasting even more. The timing here is extremely problematic.

We'll trust RG to make that decision about whether it's the right or wrong hire (we won't know for a couple years anyways). There are 130 P5 coordinators and some NFL options. I have a feeling there are at least 5 quality options among that pool who would be interested in taking a HC job.

Would be a bold move, but what about going after Joe Brady? Left LSU to take the Panthers OC job. Would he want to come back to college for a HC job? Arguably the hottest offensive coach in the country.
That’d certainly indicate we have $12mm to spend on coaches.

Definitely a long shot but every option has to be on the board right now

You're more optimistic than I am then.

Doesn't like recruiting and prefers the NFL, probably not a good approach for Colorado.

I don't think that EB would be interested in coming back to CU - pretty sure that ship has sailed. Felt he was treated pretty poorly by CU at that time. Of course money talks.

This is always a good place to start:

The finalists are:

  • Joe Brady, LSU passing game coordinator
  • Jeff Hafley, Ohio State co-defensive coordinator/secondary coach
  • Dan Lanning, Georgia defensive coordinator
  • Morgan Scalley, Utah defensive coordinator/safeties coach
  • Phil Snow, Baylor defensive coordinator

We're a solid month and a half late to the party, so Brady is at Carolina now. Snow is as well. Hafley got hired by BC. Lanning is still at Georgia, but uh not sure we want to hit up the Georgia DC route again

What about Morgan Scalley? I don't know anything about him really. Looks like he has been at Utah forever which doesn't excite me, but they were just in the playoff race last season so maybe they're doing something right. Avalos seems sexier as far as P12 coordinators go, but Scalley might be interesting

Would it? With a small class? Don't you think another Embree like hire would be a bigger problem down the road?
A year with an interim would be the worst case scenario. Never a guarantee with a coach but you are not going to see a position coach with no coordinator experience hired here. That is just not going to happen

Everyone praising RG needs to tap the brakes. History not on his side right now
Tucker was a good hire. RG identified quality candidates and brought in a good football coach who could recruit and sell his dick off to recruits and parents. This was the perfect storm of events that led to Tucker bailing after one season. Maybe RG's contract negotiations could have been better, but RG is the only thing that should give CU fans any hope at this point.
