Photos of CU football

I'd just like to point out that this site has a great feature that allows you to create a photo album. I would also request that those of you who have them to please upload your old CU football photos from the 1950s through the mid 1980s. I am trying to piece together a history of the Buffs football uniforms and helmets for a website a friend of mine plans to develop and we could use some help bridging the gaps in our research. Check out my album by clicking on my user name and then going to my public profile.

Thanks.

i think the horn helmets are sweet. we should go back to those. or at least use them sometimes. they look pretty gnarly.

Nice use of the public forum. Those horn themed helmets crack me up.

Those 1958 Orange Bowl helmets were copied from West Texas State (also the Buffaloes). I believe they were worn only for the bowl game.

WHAT? Damn, congrats in the most upstanding way:smile2:

You're either hung like a globtrotter or you got mucho jack.

I'm thinking you're hung like einstein and as smart as a horse:smile2::lol:

Uuhhh, both. Wait to the first two. I mean, a mixture of all three.

Enough of each to get a great catch as the Mrs. :wink2:

Alright alright ... back to football.

Might not be much Varsity, but CU has always done well with the Playboy All-American teams. I remember Bob Hope used to have the team on his Christmas Special every year when I was a kid, and it seemed as if a CU guys made it every year. This is the 1974 offense. See if you can identify the player:

If I was checking out a CU football site for history and uniforms, I'd definitely like to see pics of all the guys who made it ... there's some great overall history in those pics too. Here's the link for all of them: http://www.playboy.com/on-campus/allamerica/football/index.bak.html

Also FYI ... there is a site with a WAY comprehensive history of all college football helmets, goimg WAY back. Gotta click through this site ... it goes ALL THE WAY back: http://www.nationalchamps.net/Helmet_Project

I recognize a couple guys in that picture. Logan is standing next to Dave Studdard I think. Tony Dorsett in the lower right corner. The USC tailback might be Charles White, although I think he came after that.

White won the heisman in 79...I would bet that is Anthony Davis

Switzer is the coach

It is Dave Logan. Not Studdard though, but it is Anthony Davis sitting between Dean Steinkulher and Tony Dorsett.

But don't just guess, click the link. The pics are all captioned with names, and they are are fascinating. Remember, there are TWO pics each year, offense and defense.

Here's a couple more with interesting Buffs uniforms ...

1968 All-America offense. #79 standing is Colorado OT Mike Montler, with the jersey number on his helmet.

This one is fascinating too ^^^ 1966: #80 standing next to Bear Bryant is Colorado "offensive end" Sam Harris. That helmet is very interesting - looks like the silver horned helmet.

You guys can click on the links and look at these sites, the Playboy and helmets sites. I mean, you do know that, right? :smile2:
