I’m wondering why the one school in the country that has nearly zero financial constraints would be looking to make this move. The only thing I can think of is that they truly believe the B12 is a dying conference and they want to put the final nail in the coffin.
The LHN is a joint venture between UT and ESPN and ESPN is the exclusive home of the league they are joining. I am sure they'll work something out.
I think the bigger question is if the TV contract the SEC and ESPN struck in December where ESPN replaces CBS from 2024 will be renegotiated due to the increase in value.

Ego. The Big XII is beneath them, they deserve to be with Bama/ LSU/ Florida etc. And the disparity between how ESPN treated talks of early renegotiation of the media deals with the Big XII and SEC this past year took it to 11 for them.
They saw what happened with aTm's recruiting and fund raising following their move to the SEC. Combine that with the additional money from the conference, and the looming NIL changes, and their assertiveness to make this move now makes perfect sense to me.
Because they want to ensure it stays that way.
I listened to Landry this morning. Espn has already told texas that the longhorn network is not going to be renewed. The networks also came to the big 12 and said there isn’t room for them to increase their revenues for the next agreement so they would probably get lapped by the pac 12 and maybe even the ACC. Texas then realized them and Oklahoma were carrying the league by themselves and had to leave (that’s why so many big 12 insiders said them leaving was inevitable). Them going to the SEC instead of another conference is an overinflated ego that they can beat anyone and trying to stick it to A&M on the recruiting trail, imo.

I hope not. New commish needs to do a really deep dive into houston, baylor, TCU, TTU, SMU, OSU and maybe even BYU. TCU seems like a lock, atleast to me. Houston and SMU have the most long term upward mobility. That fourth school is a tough one though.

But does this move really accomplish that? I’m not convinced. Conference distributions are not the sole source of revenue for an athletic department.
From a competitive standpoint, this move makes no sense at all to me. It makes sense for OU, though.

I actually think texas was getting really concerned with the SEC raiding texas In recruiting and that sort of pissed them off along with knowing the longhorn network wasn’t going to be around after the expiration of the contract. OU went along for sure though.
Texas fans would have no problems paying more $ for SEC home games and their tickets are already expensive.

Disagree. The best players and the best coaches want to play the best competition. Texass was seeing that the state which they historically controlled, was now being looted on the daily by the SEC. They view themselves as a top 3 program in the country, and they wanted to ensure that they maintained a competitive advantage in trying to secure that position. OU followed along because why in the hell would they want to stay in the Big 12 without Texass?
That all being said, it will be fun to watch UT maintain their M.O., not live up to their expectations in the SEC.
