he transferred to this program when it was coming off an Alamo Bowl appearance and looked to have a ton of talent at the skill positions. Then he gets injured, sits out a year, and now has to battle the incumbent for the starting position on an offense that is going to be extremely young. To make matters worse, the offense lost not only the leading rusher, but only returns 3 players who had *any* rushing yards (one of whom is the incumbent QB) and loses 2 of the top 4 pass catchers.

Don’t forget getting an OC/QB coach who’s been disastrous for his last three QBs

OL is young and lacks talent, DL not young but lacks talent. Other than Sami which defensive lineman do we have who has shown that he can consistently or even frequently beat his man one on one. We get no pressure on the passer without committing blitzers which then leaves a young LB corps and DB group that is thin and lacking outstanding players under added pressure.

And with BRice even if he is the #3 WR or even #4 at USC he is going to get more and better opportunities than he would here.

Riley and his staff have populated the NFL with WRs from Oklahoma, some 1st rounders others later in the draft but either way guys who have stuck and had success.

Based on what we have seen he will get better coaching at USC. Playing in an offense with a competent OL and QB means he will be able run the full range of routes instead of the slants and screens the CU offense was forced to run by failure to protect the passer.

It also makes a big deal that he will be working in practice against a better level of DBs.

I don't think the average fan understands how much the highlighted above point effects WR play. A QB who not only understands the offense, but the how and why of the passing scheme and gets the ball there where and when it should be delivered, is invaluable to a WRs game and success. We don't really have that on the roster anymore.

To that point, if say Riley had somehow found his way to Boulder in the off season, every person on this board would be losing their damn minds projecting Rice would have 60 catches, 1,000 yards and 10 TDs next year.
 
CU was 4 - 8 last season and then the NCAA thought it was a great idea to allow CU conference rivals to tap up and pick off our best players with financial incentives. The players don't even have to seat out a year. CU final roster is not set.. I cant really make a prediction if I don't have all of the data. But I do like the additions in the secondary, QB, WR and linebacker. The 2021 class was a success with several guys playing early and looking good. Hopefully we get the same production from the 2022 class. The key io the season is the OL and DL play. 6-6 would be a successful season for me.

They are more lenient to players on bad teams. B Rice may have made a mistake if he doesn't get playing time. Young players do need to play to get better.

I didn't read the question to limit it to Wazzu or Ore. St., or even the P12, just average P5 team , of which there would be about 30-35 to choose from, so yeah, I think those 11 would have a shot at starting at a Duke, GT, Cal, Ill, Rutgers, Maryland, WVa, Syracuse type program. CU is not completely devoid of talent. They have some players who could be the "meat" of a solid CFB roster. CU just does not have nearly enough of them. They are devoid of game changers entirely. The two they had, Gonzo and Rice are gone. I am as critical as anyone of the systemic failure to recruit at a level necessary to compete in the P12, but to say they have nobody is an overstatement. Do you think anybody on my list could start at an average P5 school?

I have to agree with BB2 on this. I know we all get wound up. I certainly do, and that fact has been appropriately pointed out when it happens. However, ad hominem attacks are never a good idea. I try to remind myself regularly how little all of this means in the grand scheme of things, certainly in the grand scheme of the football program, which appears to trundle along its own path no matter what I say or think. I often fail to comprehend that reality fully.

All my best to those who take the time to read and comment on my occasional, disjointed thoughts and feelings. It is all much appreciated. Go Buffs.

It’s just a shame that there was absolutely no way for CU to see NIL coming and that CU is the only school impacted by it. It’s totally not fair.

Keep in mind, CU is nowhere close to an average P5 program. Bottom quartile and falling.

We know almost nothing of Shrout. Given the duress B Lewis was under in 2021, he is at least damaged goods mentally and it’s unclear what potential he really has, although I think he can be serviceable to good in the long run. Is that average P5 starter? Lamb didn’t impress except for a fortuitous fumble scoop and score. He does not have the prototypical ILB frame. Very thin. I don’t think he’s average P5 starting material. Sami is grossly out of physical shape. He’s a big, fat guy. Gets pushed around on every play. He’s not P5 starting material. Not even close.

So.... Uhhmm. Yeah.

2022 is going to be epically awful. No coaching improvement is going to turn that OL roster into anything. Apologists will fall over themselves with “...but Transfer Portal!...” Ok, sure.

There’s one thing we can count on. There will be five players in uniform with jersey numbers in the 60s and 70s that trot out as linemen for the first offensive sequence against TCU. Yep, that’ll happen. It will be the highlight of the season for the group. It’ll go downhill quickly from there.

OL a weakness, just not a y/y weakness. Therefore there a plenty of competitive games on schedule again in 2022.
