CU has rejoined the Big 12 and broken college football - talking out asses continues

How many people, like me, aren't going to watch a product that doesn't involve their school? I don't watch FCS football because it has nothing to do with CU. I won't watch the semi pro super league because I have no interest in semi pro football.

Is this crazy?

I'm leaning toward the USC/UCLA news probably being a good thing in my life.

Either A: CU gags its way into a B1G invite that would keep us in the top tier of divisions and give us the financial resources to believe things could be great again.

Or B: CU is left out, the dream officially dies, we can stop deluding ourselves while wasting so much time/money/emotion on Buffs football, use the games as a low key social event, and realize that for basketball fans we aren't hurt by this and are probably helped by the school's budget & focus shifting to hoops.

Frankly, both options are better than what's been going on -if we're being real- since the 2003 scandal.
I think basketball tanks if we’re left out. otherwise I agree with the rest.

I find it enteresting that people on this site thought the PAC was such a great cultural fit years ago and how the Huskers made a mistake want to now get an invite to the BIG.
Is there a way to put a “middle finger” button?

We did this to ourselves by joining a bunch of schools who have shown they don't really give a flying **** about athletics 10 years ago.

When was the last national championship this conference won in a sport that people actually watch? (Like football or mens basketball)
Stanford #2 in Learfield Cup this year behind UT. Oh…point taken.

Here are all the 2021 regular season games for PAC-12 and Big 12 that pulled more the 2 million viewers, sorted from most to least. The absolute numbers only tell part of the story. The competing games in the same time slot have an effect on viewers, depending on how big a game you are going up against. As you can see the OTA networks pull the best numbers, but they typically show the biggest games.

Weird that CU - Oregon was higher than any of the ones below it.

The problem is, what does the TV money look like for that conference and how does it being a fraction of the B1G and SEC keep it even somewhat competitive for the notOregons?
I feel there’s no way Oregon doesn’t end up in the B1G. No way they are left out of a super conference. But it does seem a little telling they were left at the alter on deadline day by SC/UCLA

There would need to be a few more teams involved, but it is a good start. Not necessarily catching the Big Ten and SEC, but I think with strategic adds, you could be within striking distance.

Denver market, being one of 2 MTZ programs and the pairing w the West Coast programs for games are about the only thing CU has going for it.

At this point, it would be a surprise if Utah & CU are not in the Big Ten. That pairing has the most people after both California pairs too and is still growing fast. The key thing is that Utah recently joined the AAU which is a big deal to the B1G.

That is if you are considering the typical conference parameters that has been in place for a long time and they might no longer apply this time around.

I forgot to mention the Nebraska rivalry. That game gives them a highly rated matchup even when both programs suck

Things Colorado has going for it:
  • Location (Center of the country geographically)
  • Market (16th and growing)
  • Destination (Great roady for fans)
  • What am I missing?
- ****ty football
- apathetic fan base
- administration in disarray
- no baseball team
- no lacrosse
- football stadium too small (NW was grandfathered in)

As I mentioned, I think they’d have to add successful programs in TX and CTZ like Baylor, TCU and Cincy

Let's say CU somehow gets an invite into the Big Ten by the end of this year. Let's also say CU goes 3-9/4-8 in 2022 like many expect.

Doesn't it become imperative to fire Dorrell at that point?

(I might be crazy, but the latter seems like the best news of all)

Why? There are a lot of great programs and regular tourney from outside the Big 6 basketball conferences. I'd argue that most, maybe all, of them would be less than they are in hoops if they decided to start competing for the top of FBS football.

This is not the good thing you think it is. Our 4-8seasons go to 1-11 in a super conference. I’d rather be competitive in the junior tier.
I’m pretty sure we could eek out some wins v NW, Rutgers, Maryland, Indiana, Nebraska, Purdue, maybe even MN.

San Diego State, TCU, and Houston should be part of that mix. Dallas Metroplex population will surpass Chicago's population next decade so you can't leave that region out at all. Houston is right behind Dallas in that regard and then SDSU could be enough to cover SoCal even if it will be mainly USC & UCLA and the B1G.

But the Big 12 can offer both Arizona schools membership in addition to San Diego State and that conference would be pretty formidable when it comes to TV numbers. Memphis could get that 16th spot in that case.
