CU has rejoined the Big 12 and broken college football - talking out asses continues

So anyway…

George K. hired a CT-based sports agency to negotiate media rights. Most of the team has ACC ties.

I sure hope they weren't the folks that helped negotiate the ACC's last deal. I'll bet the B1G will get their new deal + have the chance to renegotiate again before that ACC deal comes off the books.

And perhaps ESPN ties.

I don’t care which conference CU is in as long as they are on the ESPN family of channels including ESPN+. Not having the P12N’s distribution issues anymore would be cause for celebration across the current P12.
If you ran this thread, no audio, on the P12 it would be better than 100% of its content.

Unless there’s an audience for a 2015 replay of Cal vs Oregon St that I don’t know about.

I have to say you have no shame in making stuff up to support some of your weird takes. CU did NOT have the highest attendance in terms of stadium capacity - we were 5th and barely ahead of ASU. Utah, Washington, Oregon, Oregon State all were ahead of us in percentage of capacity. As total attendance we were 6th in the league. We have not been in the top 3rd most years. For the 5 years from 2015 through 2019 (pre-covid numbers) CU averaged 5th (and that included your great years) as % of capacity.

Here is another little tidbit - CU counts tickets sold/distributed for attendance and not through the turnstills. At the Washington game last year CUs student section was not a third full and although the crowd was announce as 44,000 I doubt there was 35,000
You're right, our average attendance from 15-19 ranked 5th in the Pac 12 at 91%, right behind Washington State by 1.5%, so apologies, they missed the top third on average by about 750 people/game. CU was well ahead of 6th place (Stanford not ASU) that came in at 86%. ASU was all the way down in 10th at 78%.

Year Avg Att % of Cap % Change

2021 - 46,484 93% -5%
2020 - No Fans
2019 - 49,572 99% +8%
2018 - 45,808 91% -2%
2017 - 47,055 94% +1%
2016 - 46,608 93% +15%
2015 - 39,388 78% +3%
2014 - 37,778 75%

2021-2016 (rolling 5 year average) = 47,105 avg game attendance or 94%

So basically, they were a 70% capacity sales program until their "unicorn season" in 2016 in which they saw the second biggest jump in % of capacity attendance in the country that season among P5 programs and have been in the mid to high 90% in terms of average ticket sales per game since then.

If you want to take it a step further and look at context, you could see that the 10 win season caused a huge jump in support and ticket sales. The hype around the "The Rise" and the good season led to more ticket sales the following season. The failure to follow 2016 up with a bowl led to a small decrease in 2018, but the firing of Mike MacIntyre and hiring of Mel Tucker and more hype around the program for finally having a legit coach led to an 8% increase and 99% average capacity. Tucker leaving and lackluster KD hire, along with COVID concerns leads to a drop in 5% in 2021. I presume 2022 is likely to drop again after a 4-8 season last year.

I also don't really care about you introducing your own opinion about how many students you think you saw at one home game and using that as any kind of evidence to prove your point. I'm actually glad you decided to try this conversation today, as forcing me to research the numbers allowed me to prove my point even further: This state will support a winning CU football program.

If they're smart, this won't be a TV deal. It'll be a social media company or web hosting service. They already have the tech infrastructure to host it. They might need to get a broadcasting company to agree to a contracting deal (for their cameras and ****) but they'd jump on it in a heartbeat. Imagine Facebook Twitter or amazon having the broadcasting rights to a cfb game. Talk about trimming the fat schools? Well, the fat schools are looking to trim the fat off of fox and ESPN

Well I don't know if the subscribers of the Pac 12 Network would want to read @Hank's musings......
