*OFFICIAL* Deion Sanders aka Coach Prime is the new CU Football Head Coach thread

I think they now have the opportunity to show it to the new coach. I won’t lie. That was hard to watch. I felt empathy for the kids who were in that room. They’ve been through a lot. But I think he’s setting the tone. Things have to change. And things are changing.
I don’t know, there are about to be 20-30 portal additions and an entire prep class signed in the next three weeks, plus additions up until February signing day. Somewhere around 50 new players on this roster and there definitely isn’t enough room for that going into Spring. I have a feeling many of them won’t have an opportunity to prove themselves.

My two takeaways:

1) If you're going to set the bar, set it on the first day. You can't wait to make your expectations known. Loved his honesty and directness. Great job coach!

2) He doesn't know these kids, and probably hasn't seen much of their game/practice film. I was kinda surprised he came down so hard on their collective commitment to the program. I guess I expected him make the point about change and commitment but with a more positive message.

It was tough to watch, but anyone that hits the portal because of what Deion said in that meeting probably isn't worth having in the program anyhow.

Looking forward to the next few months as he rounds out the roster & staff, and gets them through Spring ball. Gonna be an absolutely epic ride!

Fair. Some of that proof will be in the game tape, I guess. Was the kid going hard all the time? Did he show some fight and some drive?

Coach is putting himself out there. It's interesting that a lot of this transition is being filmed and put out publicly. The players and fans should respect that he's setting the bar really high for himself too. He's challenging himself. Massively. And that breeds credibility and respect, even if he wasn't "Prime Time Deion Sanders".

The guy is diving into the deep end without a life vest. Leaving 3 years of coaching at an FCS school and jumping to a flailing 1-11 P5 program. You can't spell GUTS without US. He's burned his ship on the shore. He's comin'.

Agree with this. There’s at least a year of game and practice film on all of em and most of them will still get the off-season to prove it. Prime’s not just going to cut people because the team was **** last year, but there’s more than enough scouting material available to start culling the herd. Film don’t lie.
I’m also sure he’ll cut some kids that have the talent because they didn’t bring it, though attitude and consistency factor just as much into talent as sheer physical ability so maybe they really didn’t have the talent to begin with.

Many of them or at least several of them were quoted as saying that last season was the most fun they've ever had playing football too.
How can you have fun while going 1-11? I don't relate to that in any way. Coach Prime doesn't either.

"Some of y'all who really got it, really want it, really deserve it...and you got to play next to some fool that don't want it, don't deserve it, they don't even love it.....I promise you it's my job to get rid of 'em."

If the admin is anything approaching competent, then people who need to be fired, get fired. Nothing in the world about that is "hard to watch," at least not by other competent adults.
I was taliking about the players...a bunch are going to be gone...and thank them for their their commitment...sucks they will have to move on...

Anybody saying that needs to go. Now. Nobody with any competitive spirit could have had fun getting waxed by teams like Minnesota and Arizona.

I know. I'm saying for the players, it's nothing personal. In all aspects of life, if you're not getting the job done, the job is no longer yours. Hopefully some of them will rise to the occasion.

What's the offseason going to be like?

-pause-

I'm gonna try to make you quit.

I dont know if Shannon Turley is staying, but if he is, his job is about to get alot easier.

I don't understand a single one of you repeating this "that was hard to watch" horse****. It's football. Prove you can get the job done or get the **** out.
I'm with you. Wasn't hard at all for me to watch. Been there. Lived through situations where that was needed. I regularly fire people I like on a personal level because of the same reasons.

If you went 1-11, you are by definition a loser. If that doesn't make you angry and motivate you like a crazy person to fix it, if it doesn't make you desperate to have winners to follow, get the dead weight out of your way and have you doing all you can to change your approach to emulate that leadership... then it's best for everyone that you find some place else.

Here’s the deal:

Prime just came from a city which has had trouble sourcing WATER for people to drink. All the kids at Jackson St have fought so hard, with less resources than many high schools, to win. Those kids have fought true adversity and become pillars in their community.

Today, he walks into a room full of kids with the silver spoon of money, gear, food, facilities, medical staff, and the list goes on. These kids have been given EVERYTHING in comparison to the community he’s been a part of.

How have they used that opportunity? Completely squandered it. Pizza parties and enjoying an embarrassing season after so many fans and our community have spent so much money on them and given them the world.

Prime finds that offensive to his very core.

They can either toughen up and prove to him that they are worth their weight, or they can gtfo and stop stealing the resources from a more deserving kid in a worse situation
