2023 CU Buffs Football Eligibility Chart

OP has been edited!

- 65 scholarship players
- 7 seniors; 22 juniors; 17 sophomores; 19 freshmen
- 3 QB; 3 RB; 10 WR (not including Hunter); 3 TE; 12 OL; 5 DT; 6 Edge; 9 ILB; 6 CB; 5 S; and, 3 K/P

What positions do we still need the most?

I think our numbers are light everywhere besides ILB and Specialist. Honestly, I think we need everything. I'm probably most concerned about DT.

(Also, I'm a bit unclear on how to place some of these guys in classes. That 2020 covid non-counting year is probably more confusing for me than it should be.)

@Buffnik great work.

The entire secondary, save Woods, turned over.

The entire RB corps, save Hankerson, turned over.

The entire WR corps, turned over.

The entire QB room, turned over.

The DT's, turned over

The Edge, save Gustav, all turned over.

Only the TE/LB room has any semblance of what it looked like last year, and the LB's just barely.

Simply unbelievable. In a good way.

Imagine what prime could do as president.

Maybe another way is to list guys based on max # of years eligible. So the far left column is 1 and each column to the left increments by 1.
Everyone that is a freshman has 4 years left, whether they've redshirted or not.
And if their clock started in 2020 or before, just don't count that year?

Because how do you classify a guy like Sami who was class of 2017? The only thing relevant is he used his redshirt and he has 1 more year. (an extreme example)

Sav'ell Smalls added at Edge.

Junior class since 2020 didn't count. So his redshirt year got wiped out, leaving him as a guy who has played 2 years and has 3 to play 2 on his eligibility clock.
How many 4 and 5 star players do we have on the team now if we were judging them based off high school ratings?

I'd love to see guys like Smalls, Horn Jr and Bentley play 1 year, dominate, and get drafted

Don't forget about the kickers room

Added E.J. Horton as a Junior.

He redshirted in 2020, so I listed him as still having a RS available since that season didn't count towards the eligibility clock.

That brings our scholarship roster to 67.

However... article which came out today said there are 4 players who have quit football and are getting the rest of their education paid for by CU as the new HC rules allow up to 10 of those in the 1st year.

I think those guys were guys who entered the portal?

Rodrick Ward added to the senior class (1 year of eligibility with a redshirt year available if needed).

That's 8 seniors.

My count is 68 scholarships allocated. Adam's at 69, but I think that counted Hunter twice by accident since he's listed there as both CB and WR. (Someone please double-check and let me know if I screwed up somewhere).

Also, we supposedly have 4 more slots with guys retiring from football, so that would mean room for 20 more.

Here's my wishlist:

QB - I'd love to see a senior transfer to give us an experienced backup. May be hard to find.
RB - I think we could use another guy to at least be primary rotation. Junior class would be ideal for balance.
WR - Not a priority for me any more, but another senior wouldn't hurt.
TE - I think we need 2 guys here.
OL - 1 more OT, particularly a senior, would be great. I'm not going to complain if it's more than that. Be nice to have 15+ OLs.
DT - 1 more guy at over 300 lbs is vital. I'd be happy if we could find 2 or 3.
Edge - I'm feeling really good about the WDE version who will play at around 245-260 lbs. I think we need another couple at around 270 as SDEs who can flex to DT situationally for pass rush / dime sets.
CB - A couple more vets (Seniors or maybe a Junior) to push the total to 8 would be ideal.
S - Same comment as for CB. I like both groups, just want to see some more numbers considering special teams & how often you see injuries or targeting calls.
