2023 CU Buffs Football Eligibility Chart

Neely on the Preegame pod supposedly (I haven't listened, just what someone else mentioned).

They are holding a JUCO only camp sometime soon I guess
I’m reading this differently. You are going to see a ton of grad transfers from small schools in my opinion. As well as a ton of “lost in the portals” and Jucos.

“Open to any and all eligible Post High School Graduate players including 2-year and 4-year transfers. “

Probably pick up a handful of guys, but mostly PWO types who want to finish at D1 ( I think)

This is a first run as we have moved past Early Signing Day and try to keep track of the CU roster for 2023.

12/26 Update (only includes scholarship roster). Credit to Brian Howell and Buffzone for confirming or clearing up a lot of this info: LINK

* Note: Adam has the classes various transfers are in with a lot of difference in his 247sports chart: LINK. I don't think this will get accurate until the roster update happens at the official team site where the team roster is currently blank: LINK.

Also, I'd usually have the info on eligibility on if a guy has redshirted or not but with the transfers it's a bit much right now. For this one, it's just the freshmen to differentiate between new signings and returning redshirts. It will get updated in future edits. (Has redshirted = * after the name)

May 1st (5:30 pm) Edit:

Portal is now closed, so we won't hear about any new guys unless he's a graduate (they can announce transfers up until fall). We also pretty much know who is available, but there are some still trickling out the next few days as their paperwork clears to enter the portal. This time of year, beyond the transfer portal players are also to be found from JUCO graduates (CU camp on May 31st) and maybe some 4-year grads who are still looking for an opportunity. There may also be some prep recruits either because they never signed or because they were on a grayshirt commitment and would jump at a chance to start in the fall.

I'm only doing scholarship roster because I have no idea which walk-ons will be invited to fall camp or to join the team once fall classes start.

I must be out of touch with defense these days - do Outside Linebackers not exist? Is Edge just not a different name Defensive End?

They kind of don't. Nickel is the new base and having 2 LBs on the field at most times kind of lessens the distinction between MLB and OLB.

Outside Linebacker and Defensive Ends are traditional for 4-3 defenses and have specific roles and physical prototypes.

OLB and DE in a 3-4 are both very different from the 4-3 version.

Edge has been a more modern description of the “edge defender” in today’s more hybrid/multiple schemes. Big and fast enough to rush the passer and set the edge against OTs, but also athletic enough to drop into coverage.

Edge is just a way to get paid more in the NFL! Thanks Von

Edge = a 4-3 WDE or a 3-4 OLB is my understanding.

I include the SDE types with the DTs in the DL position group. If you're a Bruce Smith or Reggie White type, you're a DL rather than an Edge (basically anyone playing at 270+).

He’s highlighting the JUCO camp. Even says maybe a few scholarships will be given out.

So, IMO, 2-3 JUCO kids from that camp, probably a couple current Walk Ons like Offerdahl and Yelverton, and then 5 more transfers. Of course, this doesn’t take into account the possible 4 current scholarship guys who are leaving football

My larger point is that Jucos used to give a 4 year school an opportunity to backfill a position with a more mature kid. But with the portal, you now have NAIA, and all lower division kids including G5 kids to do same. Plus P5 transfers.

Makes me wonder if we are aren’t entering a period where a school will become highly restrictive of offering 4 years to 17 year olds as broadly. Maybe 12-15 rather than 25? I’m sure a lot of programs are looking at Prime now and rethinking the whole “development risk equation”.

That JUCO camp is where I'm betting we find another QB and at least 1 TE.

chaching. $$$$$

It's not a Juco camp though.

I don’t know why you’re fighting this so hard. He and others have consistently referred to it as a JUCO camp. It’s also $50 to attend. They aren’t making any money off these camps
Because it's a misnomer. A volunteer in the AD insists such. Either way, it's a non event. It's not like the staff is going to be on the field evaluating these kids diligently. Probably will have a few non on-field coaches show up. But it's possible a kid or two show out, juco, or grad or other.

The May 30th camp is for HS post-graduates.

So it's for guys who didn't sign out of HS this year as well as transfers from 2-year and 4-year colleges.

The focus is on the 2-year college transfers, which is why football staff and fans are referring to it as the "JUCO camp."

“A volunteer”… dude… I know you fancy yourself as a guy with program sources, but Neely and The Preegame is part of Primes social media group that he deliberately brought to CU. When he says something, it behooves you to listen. You can also pay Adam $10/mo and get similar information. Either way, you are approaching ridiculous levels of stubbornness with some of this stuff.

I pay Adam $10 and it's on Adam's site that it's not aimed just at Jucos. I think somebody lost something in the translation.

Where was it stated that the focus is on 2 year? Sanders in the video above referred to it as a Juco & walkon camp. I simply said he misspoke as it's really not aimed or focused on Jucos, but rather anyone who is eligible post high school and can pay the money.

Secondly, all of these camps are focused on making money. They bring in a ton of out of town kids and their parents (often times). This is no different than anywhere else including CU in the past. But with Prime, the AD sees an opportunity to make some money for both the AD and the community.

Sure. Coach Prime must have misspoken since what he said doesn't align with what you have decided is the focus of that camp. You should probably contact him and tell him to issue a retraction to get his messaging aligned with your vision.

Fill me in on this guy's O. Is it a finesse spread O or will they line up and pound it too? I'm cool with the pace, if we can run the damn ball. A few things won't change no matter what the scheme.

I posted a very detailed thread on the Lewis offense that you can probably find
