CU has rejoined the Big 12 and broken college football - talking out asses continues

P12 should have raided weakened B12 when uT snd OU left. They didn’t. Allowed rejuvenated BY to accelerate media deal killing B12
BY is a serious professional, in contrast to the
PAC guys. He understood the stakes.

Is he talking about their feelings towards the XII or the B1G's feelings towards them? The analogy works for either scenario.

I agree it's either way but it'd be awesome to see a huge pile of humble pie served upon the Duck fans.

But what is Pac without USC/UCLA/Zona/ASU/CU? B1G or bust a risky proposition.

He's assuming we owe something.

And apple might take care of the Comcast overpayments for the three who are leaving? Hahahaha.

Im assuming there is a 2023/24 payout for the last year of the current pac12. And that payout will probably include a clawback for whats owed to comcast from the 12 members it occurred under.

The new deal is rumored to to include a payment to help with that by making the remaining member whole.

If you were conference commish would you give money from your new deal to the three conference quitters?

Rumor is they divide it by the 9/8 remaining and set some aside for invited programs to help them settle their buyout.

Edit: what he said.
To clarify based on previous reporting, the overpayments due back to Comcast will be made up by Comcast withholding payments this year and direct payments from the conference back to Comcast, which will result in reduced revenue distribution to each school for this year. Because there are still 12 schools this year, each school owes a bit over $4 million each based on the reported $50 million owed back to Comcast.

Is it, though? If the PAC goes out and finds 6 jabronis to backfill the league, Oregon has a clear path to the CFP every year. Sure, it’s a too heavy league, but if they work it out to keep a larger share of their TV and Bowl money, it might work out fine for them along with Phil’s financial backing for the next 5-10 years.

UW, OTOH, has fewer options, IMO.

can any of Allbuff's general counsel weigh in on whether this seems legit at all from a legal standpoint wrt getting out of the GoR?

I have a well-placed source in the sports media rights industry who believes Florida State was defrauded by the ACC.

....I've spoken with over a dozen legal experts on media rights. They were unanimous in their opinion - an assignment of rights is only circumventable by breach of contract or fraud.

My contact alleges the revenue projections presented to Florida State's Board of Trustees on March 7, 2013, by ACC Commissioner John Swofford and TV consultant Dean Jordan, were grossly inaccurate and misleading.

FSU's Board acted on the bad-faith representations of the ACC. Swofford and Jordan knew the revenue projections were unrealistic yet assured the Board profits from a conference network would put the Seminoles on par with their SEC peers.

That's what lawyers call "intentional fraud."

Good luck landing any players when all the games are streaming. Might as well throw the Pac12 network on YouTube.

It's obviously the future, but it makes no sense for conferences to rush to get there. Might as well suck the cable teat dry first (B12 metaphor, MFers). Yes, cable is dying and ESPN won't be cashing hundreds of millions of dollars in subscriber fees much longer--but while they are it makes sense for content sellers to get a part of that action. I think that streamers, because they don't need the type of network reach the networks have, will be more competitive with each other when buying content. This doesn't mean they will pay more, just that there will be more bidders for content. There are just fewer barriers to entry vs. cable. So whenever streaming becomes the preferred destination, it will be relatively simple for a conference to sign a deal.
Everyone noted what a coup it was for the B1G to get a short deal and get another bite at the apple before the SEC or ACC hit the market again, but I'm wondering it if was also because the media companies didn't want to go any longer than that given how quickly they are hemorrhaging cable subscribers.

I think the opportunity has always been there, and probably still exists. It would require conference leadership to collaborate and work towards a common goal, which is a difficult thing to accomplish.

Essentially, take the top half of the B12, PAC 12, and ACC and create an entirely new conference. In order to do that, all three conferences would have to dissolve and then re-form. Possible? Sure. Likely? Absolutely not.
When all is said and done, I expect the Big12 will end up with Pitt, Louisville for sure with the possibility of Va Tech and NCST.
Duke, Ga Tech maybe ... do they take Syracuse ? Are they important any more ? How about BC ?

Pac-12, long before that, should have done a "merger" that created a Pac-16 through KU, OU, UT and whatever 4th team UT preferred and re-worked all the by-laws & media strategy.
That never happens involving UT bc UT was unwilling to give up the LHN. The LHN being probably one of the best examples of the misuse of TV money that explains these troubling times completely. And is THE reason NU, CU, A&M, and Missou left the conference.

The LHN was only “solved” by ESPN when they made a deal to move UT and OU to it‘s SEC.
