Embarrassing performance tonight..

I didn't think we would win, but to be completely embarrassed tonight before a sellout crowd was a real setback.. Fumbles, missed blocks, Josh Smith fake run out of the endzone after the 1st Texas TD, missed assignments, missed FG's just highlighted how bad we were tonight..

I still believe in Hawk, but geez, this wasn't much different than the Barnett blowout games..

And I don't want to hear about injuries.. Everybody has injuries..

I think injuries played a part in this loss.

I agree about the pain and embarrassment level. The only think I can think of is the 70-3 blowout was done with a bunch of seniors and tonight, at least on O, it was a bunch of freshmen/sophomores. I also felt like tonight we had our chances and chocked as apposed to the 70-3 game we just looked like a high school JV team compared to the horns.

We disagree about politics but I'm right with you about the state of CU football. This WAS embarrassing. This can't be considered improvement from last year. I just don't see it.

good news guys.. knu is losing 52-10. that puts a smile on my face.

it could have been worse. don't blame the D. injuries to the O line just destroyed us today. VY could not have made this offense click

Actually, I think VY could have done SOMETHING.

Not that it would have changed the outcome of the game -- but CU has precious few playmakers on the field -- and the ball is not in their hands every single play like it would be with VY.

This is a decent point. If we had a QB on the roster that was a competent passer and had some running skills, then it might make sense to get him on the field. Especially against these really fast D's. But, I just don't understand why people think a QB with a few inches on Cody who doesn't know the playbook as well and isn't a team leader is going to be some magic tonic. Our OL suxors right now.

I watched quite a few passes either get tipped at the line of scrimmage or batted down at the line.

A few inches certainly might make a difference there.

I tend to agree with the idea that benching Cody Hawkins is not the answer to Colorado's offensive problems. But I do think that it would be a good idea to get the younger QBs some reps, if for no other reason than to provide some valuable in-game experience.

Fair point. I guess I'd have to defer to people who saw it on TV as to how many of those are actually on Cody's height and how many are on the OL not blocking.

Agreed. We need to be getting other QBs some reps. And we need to be recruiting some playmakers. The fact that someone like Cody Crawford is getting significant playing time at WR says it all.

I shut the game off at halftime, so I only have the 1st half to speak from.

I saw several times when defensive linemen were being blocked at the line of scrimmage, and as Cody tried to throw, the linemen reached up their arms and blocked the pass.

Good point. There were a lot of plays that we had PWill, Scotty, and Crawford out there. No JFly. It's too bad that Celestine and Simas didn't pan out this year. Especially Simas.

We got beat on both the offensive and defensive lines. I can understand the offensive line problems with the injuries, but this was supposed to be Hawkins best D line since he's been coach.
Cody was running for his life most of the game. I didn't expect CU to win, but this was back to Barnett.

You know what? If we make those three pretty much chip shot FG's, we would have been down 14-9 late in the first half!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is one of the principle problems this offense and by extension this program has. They are just not getting the type of athletes at the skill positions that the team needs to be successful. All due respect to the Dusty Sprague 2.0's out there but there's a reason the prototype WR is Brandon Marshall or Terrell Owens and not guys that look like they ought to be sales reps for E.F Hutton.

Actually, I thought the defensive line played pretty well tonight. We effectively limited their running game and got some decent pressure on McCoy. Granted we still struggle with generating consistent pressure, but we didn't get dominated on that side tonight. The LBs and safeties missing lots of tackles was the biggest problem on defense tonight.

I missed the part where marshall and owens were "prototypical" or anything close to sure things coming out of college.

I don't buy that. The defense played as well as they possibly could tonight, and we had pretty good penetration from start to finish. How many sacks did we end up with, 4? Outside of that one long run, their running game was not able to get much going.

You mean most prototypes don't go to Tenn. Chattanooga and Central Fla?

or play saftey and get drafted in the later rounds...For that matter a large number of the truly dominate WR's in college in recet memory havent hacked it in the pros.

It doesn't matter that they weren't 'prototypical' then. They've proven themselves to be though. What traits do they share? Size, speed, strength, and arrogance. They are game changers. Why hasn't CU made finding these kinds of receivers a priority? I submit that it was and is a higher priority than getting Darrell Scott (blasphemy, I know). Do you remember what it was like when Derek McCoy and D.J Hackett were here? The win/loss might not have shown it but they made a huge difference for Joel Klatt and Bobby Purify. Without them what would we have had?

Terrell Owens's middle name is apparently Eldorado. That's mind blowing.

Embarassing plays:
1) The beyond the line of scrimmage McCoy pass for a touchdown that was reviewed and somehow legit
2) Josh Smith catching a KO in the endzone and wondering beyond the goal line, only to be tackeled in the endzone. How was that not a safety?
3) - 5) Aric Goodman's FG kicking
6) - 10) Cody's tipped passes. Lucky none of those weren picks.
11) Missed exchange between Cody and Rodney resulting in a fumble
12) TE's fumble off of Ballinger's pass
13) Allowing UT to convert on 4th down
14) Inability to protect the QB from the weak side
15) Disappearance of the CU rush
16) Refs turning a 2nd and inches or 1st down into a 4 minute time out
17) Failure to rule Patrick William's TD catch as a TD. Atleast the review got that one
18) Complete lack of depth on the OL. CU was pushed around.
19) No defender managed to Klatt Colt McCoy on any of his runs.
20) Okeyondi's rambling run, and no one wrapped him up.
21) Helfrich not recognizing that the key to beating Texas is putting in a QB who can get out of the pocket.
22) Jalil Brown getting caught on his INT return.
23) Lack of a running game
24) Giving students yellow towels to throw about. Might as well handed out batteries, zip lock baggies and marshmellows.
25) This was homecoming.

Texas had 169 yards rushing, we didn't have 50. The long run was the bulk of Ogbonnava's 71 yards. I don't think giving up 38 is pretty good, but that 1st score really hurt. It sure looked to me like he was over the line of scrimmage.

Our D was over matched but played well until they wore down. What I saw tonight didn't embarrass me, it made me realize that while we have gotten a few decent recruits with speed and size while UT has an entire team of them. I saw a talent difference that was staggering. Texas did not over look us like OU did last year and talent made a huge difference in the outcome of the game. Hawk is recruiting the right kind of players and the fact that it will take time to get to the level where we can compete week in and week out with the Texas' of the world just shows how far we slipped.

This game was nothing even close to 70-3, this team never quit! I have yet to see a Hawk team here quit and don't expect to. I think a lot of people drank too much cool aid earlier this year and need to realize that even with the players that have come in we are a few years away.

OK, Josh was an idiot, but that shouldn't have been a safety unless he leaves the endzone and then returns to the endzone on his own. If he comes out and is tackled back into the endzone it's forward progress to the 1cm line. But, if they determine he never came out then it's a touchback as they called it. After the OU game last year, if this one got called as coming out I would have lost it! OK, actually, it looked a lot like he walked out. Total idot move.

Cody and Rodney had two bad exchanges, but we fell on the first one. The second one looked like Rod thought it was a pass and Cody didn't. The first one was just ugly. Ugh.

The defense played well. I know the score doesn't indicate that, but they did.

Today reminded me of 2006 when the defense was solid but gave up yards/points cause the offense could not move the ball.

Our oline is decimated.

In the third quarter one of those naked inflatable girl dolls was thrown onto the Colorado horseshoe, but that wasn't the only fuqable plaything on the field.
