Official CU vs. UCLA 10/28/23 Game Thread

yes the ol got abused. this is, in my opinion, a good and productive offensive scheme. the open question is how much they can upgrade in the trenches, both sides, this off season. we will make noise next year. if they can recruit lights out on the line, it could be even better than noise.
We better get 10-12 power 5 level transfers, cause there isn't 1 D1 level olineman on this team.

Yeah the scary part is that we all thought this staff was truly great. I don’t see a single AC that is a must keep. Nick Williams for his recruiting maybe.
This is why dikkhead Lanning and other college coaches are a little miffed at Prime. It is hard to be a great P5 Head Coach and Assistant Coach, and there are some guys on this staff that are good guys, pretty good recruiters, but absolute killer at their jobs is not quite accurate. Prime covers up a lot of things for them.
I think Prime is already looking at how he could help them move to like smaller school Head Coaching jobs, or maybe some just go into Staff Admin.
Aaron Butler was talking like Micheal Westbrook was going to be his WR coach on that long video he released. Leftwich is hanging around and is unemployed, and Prime may be realizing he needs to upgrade everything to get where he wants to go.
Not thrilled with throwing kids under the bus, could lose a lot of the roster that you need as depth and development.

Most of us thought we were going to lose this year before the season started and our expectations went way up after the first couple wins. Now we don't know if coaching is the main issue or if it's more a talent issue.
Most everyone’s expectations went way up after the TCU win. Mine sure increased a lot.

This is what you’re worried about after this game?
He did not own it in the Presser
He smoothed it out a little, but he backed Shilo and questioned the call
If a player does not show that they are "Wrapping up" and creates a shot to the other player anywhere up high, it is not right, it is a penalty, and in college, it is targeting. In the NFL, it has become the Kareem Jackson rule that gets you tossed out.
Prime is sincere and honest, but I think he might just be even more smooth about it later in the week.

His comments about his guys coaching youth football just a few years back are actually not flattering at all, but it was sincere.

I still don't believe this was targeting. He led with his shoulder. When you are moving that fast helmets are going to touch that's why they wear them.

This is not "Old-School" Sportscenter Football anymore, period!
He has to be attempting to tackle the guy with his arms wrapping up and not just delivering a blow that could end the other guys life or career.
Wrap up, end of story

He was leading with his shoulder and his head was incidental contact. A penalty by the letter of the law, but not by the spirit of the rule/game.

So don't hit, got it
Do they keep HIT stats or Tackle Stats?
Are 75% of the NFL guys diagnosed with CTE for no reason
Wrap up and tackle the other man
We have now found out that a hit that is hard enough and at the exact right moment can stop another mans heart
The game must evolve so that kids will be safe.
Why does Prime make the team wear the helmet protectors, but is Ok creating a head shocking hit that is worse than a helmet shot many times

EDIT: Did I used to love the huge hits when I was 25 years old, you bet... Now, I cannot see it being the way forward, when Shilo can wrap up with proper technique and use that force to make the guy stop in his tracks with a great form tackle

He didn't lead with the crown of his helmet. That's it

We seem to be getting worse. Our defense seems so bad. Our O-line is as bad as ever it seems. Doesn’t seem like the players have bought in. Or we have such a huge talent gap? I was expecting to improve as the season went on.

Doesn’t matter. Again, it’s exactly the kind of play they are trying to stop
I actually think we are beating each other up for different reasons.
There is the letter of the law or rule, and then there is intent and appearance.
All leagues want to get big shock hits out of the game. They look violent and dangerous, and after the Hamlin incident, nobody wants a guy knocked out, or worse potentially life-threatening damage.
If Shilo has time, like I think he did to go into the guy with his chest, head to the side, and arms wrapping up, it is a fantastic tackle.
The way that these leagues are getting to where they feel player safety is managed is painful and against the Football everyone loved, but they want to get there and we need to play by those guidelines

Fair. Imho, all Shilo needed to do was run through the tackle instead of launching himself.

I totally respect Klatt, he is our guy, and using the word Targeting is something that makes all of us arguing over one single element, but again it is not just about targeting, it is about violent hits. The NBA went to Flagrant 1, Flagrant 2, etc...
The CFB only has the Targeting bucket to pile **** into.
Should Shilo get ejected, probably not, would be better to have more options, but it is where we are right now
Violent hit, followed by the flex looks bad
