We have a better defense, they have a better offense.K-state gave up 540 yds to a7m,a team who is no better than us on offense.

Hawk is 0-2 vs prince.

We'll see if this team can pull it together,if cu wins then we can move on from there after the mizzou game.

If we lose this game at home,it's going to get ugly and hawkins will start to see hawk love fade away with the media.

If cu's offense can't put up more than 14 points on ksu's defense, then there is no hope.

Win and a bowl is still possible, lose and you can forget about it.

I thought KU was the "must win" game.

Now it's the KSU game.

Then it'll be the Mizzou game....

Then it'll be the aTm game..........

Then OSU at home..........

Then ISU will be THE game......

I think we've pretty much seen what the team, Hawkins and the coaches are made of, already.

We should just run the damn ball in this game. KSU can't stop the run. Although I thought we were going to do that today when Speedy started to get untracked, but we seemed to go back to trying to force the pass. Just run the ****ing ball.

And get frickin Scott in the game!

I'd like to see them just TRY to run the football.

Start TRYING to drive some people and push some people around.

Unfortunately, at this point it is probably too late to create an atmosphere of a running football team.

/you're probably right, it would be nice to see us TRY to run and also nice if scott would get more than 1 carry.

kjsu is beatable, particularly since it is a home game.

hawk has been horrific on the road in conference games thus far.

i like CU to beat kjsu and isu. gotta find that last win somewhere on the road.

i totally agree with syko that this is a season-changer and that they need to man-up and find a way v. kjsu or things are going to get ugly.

How about aTm? They are dog-butt awful!

I love Hawk. The best guy ever. But he has to give up his P.C. bull$h!t speech this week and lay it out there. I didn't look at KU as a must win, but would have been nice.

This is the season coming up next saturday... at home... family weekend... Looks to be very close to a sell-out. Win and you got a shot... Lose and the season's over. Quit making excuses, injuries are a part of football. Don't look at injuries as an excuse but a tool for motivation of defying the odds. Coming together as a team and representing CU Football the way it should be. Saturday is the season, today was a disappointment, but saturday is the last shot! Sure it's pressure, but with pressure comes an opportunity to succeed.

yup.

basically, it is a job game next week.

hate to say that...

I'm not sure why you hate to say that. I've been as much of a Hawkins sunshine pumper as anyone. Even I have to admit that this is a game that we as CU fans should expect to walk away from with a win and feeling good about our team.

Hawkins has set the expectations with all of us. Now he needs to live up to them. He knows that as well as any of us.

If CU loses you should fire Hawkins after the game. JMO.

I know you are joking but based on what we've been saying I get it.

I won't jump to the fire Hawk bandwagon but I think the heat would be on him to explain why the program isn't where we all think it should be.

Is this record enough to get a coach fired?

2-10 first season.
6-7 with a bowl loss season 2
3-3 start to season 3...

I don't think it is, but I wish to hell it was. Because that record belongs to a coach whose team is 17-2 since the start of his 6th season and kicked our asses yesterday. Hawk's record at this point in his career is identical to Mangina's. BTW, Mangina went to 3-7 season 3 before finishing 4-7.

Obviously from what I said yesterday I'm frustrated and there are some things being done that I don't agree with. I think this staff is still adapting to Big XII football in a lot of ways. That doesn't mean that I think by any means that we should be talking about firing the head coach. There might be some room to look at changing some of the staff, but the head coach? No way...

I am no huge DH fan, but to talk of firing him at this point is absurd.

One, it won't happen. He could lose every game this year and the thought of firing him would not even be considered. He just got an extension. He appears to be rather ingratiated with the AD and the University. Two, it shouldn't happen. That would set the team back another 3 years, at least.

when i say it is a job game, i don't mean if he loses he will be fired the next day. CU doesn't work like that. what i mean is that if he doesn't win this one, it may be the loss that starts the precipitous spiral to his termination. lose this one and a bowl game becomes extremely unlikely. no bowl game and another losing record and recruiting will be very difficult. all the built up goodwill this staff has will be gone. next year, they will be in a position where they have no margin for error at all and it will be expected that they have a very big year or else. when we review it all in retrospect, if the Buffs lose to kjsu this week and hawk is ultimately fired next year, i think we will point to this game as the beginning of the end.

i am hoping for the best, of course.

Behind an offensive line that is all beat up and a running back that is out of his league. This team is a year away now.....maybe two.

If Dan Hawkins can't find a cure for ACL tears and broken fibulas, and can't find a reverse fountain of youth to get a more experienced team, and if he can't prevent Darrell Scott from spraining his ankle, and if he can't find a magic potion to make Texas slower, then he should definitely be fired. After all, firing coaches every 4 or 5 years has worked great for Washington, UCLA, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Texas A&M, right? SARCASM ALERT.

Or we could just look at the steadily improving recruiting, the fact that the team is playing hard every week, that the penalties are going down, the conduct off the field is improving, that the relationship between the team and the community is improving, that we have a coach that fits the culture here, that we are selling out folsom field again, that we are .500 against a tough schedule, that we have been in every game this year(compare with previous coaching regime), and chill the F*ck out.

Hawk has run EXACTLY the same product onto the field for 6 games. We know what this team is made of.

What I'd like to see is changes, to personnel, the game plan, play calling, ANYTHING or all of the above to try to compensate for the teams weaknesses. ANYTHING other than running the same product out there again and shrugging and blaming it on injuries.

Other teams overcome injuries, the Buffs seem to just use them as excuses, from the top of the program to the bottom.

A new attitude, that's what I want to see against KSU.

I'd like to see the whole team infused with Rodney Stewart's attitude!

That's what it is. No one has attitude. Talk about your HORRIBLE arguments.

You want to argue okay......

"Wins and losses isn't the big picture, getting better is"

"It's part of the deal"

The HO-HUM attitude toward losing by the head coach is HORRIBLE.

I didn't see much fire out in kansas did you? Any players showing emotion, anger at losing 3 straight?

Losing has been accepted around here for far too long and the attitude toward losing by hawk isn't helping.

But hey,it's just me talking out my ass, well except for the quotes by hawk....

Yeah, the team having to talk Smith back into the game, Hawk's happy go-lucky "Everything is fine except for the injuries" attitude, the heads down the whole game, Patrick Williams, and other players, giving up at the end of plays, the coaches letting Scott come into camp out of shape, none of that speaks to a general attitude problem on this team.

I think if the staff is still adapting, then they should give back the millions or hundreds of thousands of dollars they are getting paid for their expertise. OR perhaps they should have stayed in the minor leagues for a bit longer. At some point we have to move past the players and start to put some serious blame on the coaching staff here. I'm glad to see this thread finally do that.

Every team is faced with obstacles....seriously...every team. But it's a coaches ability to adapt and move the team forward...to game plan that makes a coach good and eventually great. Hawkins has not shown the ability to adapt to the lack of depth or play makers at certain positions. He has a "system" and he never wavers. Don't get me wrong, it's important to have a system in place, recruit players that fit that system and grow your players. But if you run a system that can't adapt when your players can't make the system work, then what good is it. We have glaring weaknesses in the OL, adapt. We have weaknesses at QB...adapt. ADAPT...PLEASE!! And the other coaches can't escape the culpability here, but ultimately it's Hawkins that is getting paid millions to recruit and execute his system. He clearly needs some more time, you can't just throw up your hands now, but TRY HARDER.
