Add Head and Adkins to the suspended list. Also, Lamont Smith is ineligible I believe

Geer was technically recovering from surgery, having served his suspension in the spring. Practically, the coaches probably told him the first two games would be a good time to have the surgery *wink nudge*

To put this in perspective, Colorado is playing with less scholarship players than a division 1-AA(FCS) school. Colorado also has the 3rd youngest team in the country. Perfect storm if I've ever seen one. If we get to a bowl game this year, it may be Hawk's best coaching job ever. I've said it before, this is NOT normal, and most teams are NOT dealing with these issues. If people think otherwise, and expect business as usual, then they are either foolish, or willfully ignorant.

I count 109 on the roster
Less 10 on the injured/ineligable list
How does RS play into this math?

I don't know about his best coaching job ever. Maybe at CU since his body of work is not that impressive. However, was a team that most rational people would win 7 games with our schedule when healthy. We are a shell of that team and pulling bowl eligibility would be an accomplishment.

A 1-A team is only allowed 85 scholarships. The rest on the roster are walk-ons. Colorado is on probation and missing 2 schollies(I think, somebody correct me if I am wrong). 1-AA teams are allowed 63 scholarships. Colorado has lost 14 for the year due to injuries, leaving team, and ineligibilty. Sprinkle in 4-5 on average per game missing due to lesser injury, and you have basically 21 scholarship athletes missing each game, leaving 64 athletes on scholarship. So we are basically playing with 1-AA numbers.

It's an interesting analysis, with a lense focused only on CU. Are CU's injuries & suspensions plus loss of scholly outliers among D-1 schools, or are there other schools that are similarly situated.

Injury/eligiblity is a part of the game. I hate to see this as an excuse for poor play.

I don't think it is an excuse and I agree that injuries, etc. are part of the game. However, people need to remember this was a 6-7 win team when they were all there.

The losses they have had to an already thin and young OLine are not "normal". Just look at the last few years. Who'd we lose for the year last year that we were counting on coming out of the spring? No One! The year before? No One!

From the projected top guard groups after the spring game we have lost Faatagi, Iltis, and then a fantastic freshman who emerged in the fall as Faatagi's replacement, Max Tuioti-Mariner. That running game vs. WVU was up the middle right behind that big boy.

From the projected top tackle groups after the spring game we have lost Miller and Tau.

How many teams are playing with their #4 and #5 guard and their #4 tackle in the starting lineup?

This has been devestating in the short term.

And let's not heap too much on Mr. Solder's shoulders. In most programs, as a sophomore, having never played 1 down of tackle at any level and not having practiced there before the spring, he would be watching and learning from afar. He wouldn't be one of our "counted on" starters, when he is both young and inexperienced and also underweight. He'd ideally have a year to grow both physically and mentally.

Everyone can call it excuses, but I've played behind good and bad offense lines and theres no hope for much of anything behind this line.

If you want to blame Hawk or Grimes for playing the hand they were dealt, you're in fantasy land. GB recruited ONE decent offensive linemen his last 2 years (Sanders) and the first "partial" class Hawk got didn't have any that turned out to be here still, except Solder who they recently moved to OT after two years at TE. You really need to get 3 per year to have depth and competition. Gary got 1/6 of the way there for us. Which meant we signed 8 or so in 2007. These guys are growing up under fire and they will be very good in two years.

realistically, with the youth we expected to have on the OL, I had us scrambling to find 6 victories, and frankly expected a fall back from last year. There is just no depth in these Jr and Sr classes to support a ride. Next year, I expect we can get 7 W's and a bowl bid. The year after that, we need to be ranked and then we are on our way.

Ask yourself this. The Juniors and Seniors are all pre-Hawkins. How many are starting on offense (two). How many playmakers on offense do we have from those two classes? zero. How many QB's? Zero. How many stud RB's? Zero.

Basically, we have Hypolite, Walters and Jones on defense. Throw in Nicholas who transferred here from Notre Dame in Gary's last year.

So that is what we have. A below average talent pool in the upper classes and a solid pool in the younger classes, especially young and inexperienced on the O-Line. The O-Line has been absolutely devastated by injuries.

We honestly could have been fighting for 3 wins this year with what's happened. Anyone who buries their head in the sand and says "injuries are part of the game" is ignoring how thin the depth here at CU is. It's one thing for OU to lose a handful of starters. They have 3 studs at every position and the drop off isn't there in most all cases. That ain't the case here at CU guys. We have 3 more years of stockpiling to do before we get to the point where a key injury or ineligibility won't hurt us.

It's time people get their facts straight and quit calling for coach's heads. This program was in absolute tatters when GB was fired. Not GB's fault, blame the DA in Boulder. Whatever, but the facts are facts. We had ZERO classes here in '04 and '05 and we were on a steady track down the tubes.

Another thing, we lost a lot of "players" when the coaching change happened. And did a bunch of them end up playing big roles anywhere? Not really.

Face the facts guys, we have little to no depth and we are playing nearly all Sophomores and Freshmen on offense. In some cases, those underclassmen were 2nd and 3rd string before the injuries to the first string freshmen and sophomores.....
