WR Smith, RB Scott both want more opportunities

This isn't good.

:yeahthat:

College players (let alone Freshmen and Soph) sick of coaching decisions and saying it without saying it ya know? This is a mess, and I agree with JFly, even though he dropped that pass and fumbled today.. He's the best athlete on the offense and should be on the field every play. If anything, with JFly on the field defense is more likely to key on him, getting other guys in favorable matchups. But hey, what do I know... I'm probably wrong.

So you've had both running backs openly say that they want to run out of the I, we don't... D Scott and Running back's coach had a scuffle a couple weeks back, and now J Fly, understandably wants to be on the field and is speaking out... This coaching staff is losing control. Your job is to win football games, and unless a player is ineligable or breaks team rules or laws you cannot sit your best athletes on the sideline because they don't work hard every second of every day. that's life, sometimes people don't work as hard, but they're just better. The Pride of the coaching staff has become too much.

I'm not going to get too worked up about this article. First, we do not know the questions that Ringo asked. Second, why did Ringo only ask these questions to J-Fly and DS? Third, with respect to DS's answer, I would expect that from any football player.

This piece looks like journalism with an agenda. Either that, or Ringo isn't the smartest guy.

Ringo is not a smart guy...check out his video chats if you want an inkling....

I am curious about the score when J-Fly dropped the "sure" TD. Does anyone know?

dissent among the ranks? Say it isnt so? No way Maiava knew what he was talking about. Now these players should just listen and not be heard.

Hmm... the program is heading in a great direction, Dan.

When Smith learns to hold on to the ball, maybe he will get more opportunities. Two fumbles and a dropped pass don't exactly inspire confidence.

Scott shouldn't worry too much about getting more opportunities. With Stewart's injury, he is going to have to get more opportunities.

I have no problem with what scott said,he was pretty cool about it and he will get his chance these last 3 games.

Smith on the other hand should have kept this in-house.

Smith has an ego like goodman but neither have lived up to it.

I think josh should have 6-7 receptions a game, he's our best threat to score but, dropping wide open td passes and fumbling around with every kick return doesn't help.

Remember he is as good as maclin in his head...

no ****. stop ****ign fumbling. I forgive him for the drop. You know why?" Cause none of our other WR's could possibly have gotten open to drop the damn ball. Well maybe Pwill, but at this point he would probably drop a ball handed to him.

As for Scott, did you all see that he re-aggravated his ankle injury?

****.

This article doesn't mean s***! Just a lot of frustrations us all. I would be too with this season.

For anyone who has ever been a part of a team covered by media, in which I have in High School and College... You would know that this kind of "speaking out" by a Freshmen and a Sophomore, when seniors in the middle of their last chance are only looking for success, this can create quite the rift. Players don't do this in other programs, the coaches don't garner control or respect I'm afraid... :sad1:

Anyone who has been a part of a team knows, if I were a teammate I would see a "Me" before "team" attitude in this article.

How many seniors that get any playtime does this team have, though? 6?

I decided to move the thread here. This should be sounding off alarms in the Dal Ward right now. When some of your players come out and speak against you to the media, there are BIG problems. I couldn't believe this article when I read it.

You are feeding the negative frenzy, I can't believe you would pile on:smile2:

It does sound an alarm, the honeymoon is over. Let's see how Dan and staff do "facing the fire". So far, in most practice interviews and questions, hawkins is very short with ringo, brooks etc..and seems annoyed.

This isn't boise where the one media member nods in agreement with another " Life is like a box of chocolate" retorts.

This is bad. You have these guys calling the staff out in the media. I think it hurts the team. Josh needs to stop dropping TD passes if he wants to start talking like he's TO. Darrell? It should be obvious that Speedy has outplayed you. I understand you are unhappy about your carries, but it should be giving at least a little credit to Rodney. I agree with Hawk going with the hot hand. But now that Stewart is hurt, it's time to step up, or shut up. Especially when your putting the coaching staff on blast in the papers.

I don't care what Hawkins tells the press. It's all politics. You don't call out your players to the media. So i really don't care about what Hawks gives to Ringo and company. jmho.

BTW this isn't a slam to either player. I just hate seeing this kind of selfishness from our players. Keep this stuff in house.

Scott didn't say anything that bad, but smith needs to check his ego and you're correct, keep it in-house.

It's the fact that Scott and Smith went to the media that pisses me off. That shows no respect to the coaching staff, and your teammates.

I'm sure Darrell and Josh are great kids. I just think they need to mature a little bit. I'm sure Hawkins is telling them that right now.

fools... good recievers drop passes, check quan cosby.

This coaching staff is nucking suts this fall.

I never said he sucked. I just said he needs to check himself before he puts the staff on blast. And most importantly, keep it in house.

What Scott said was fine. What Smith said depends on the context. We do not know how the question was posed to Smith. The thing that is most bothersome is that Smith revealed that they don't feel prepared to run the play that is being called. This needs to be kept in house and it needs to be improved. The coaches have responsibility to prepare the players. The players also have the responsibility to prepare themselves. It's hard to tell what exactly is going on here. Part of football is knowing your responsibilities as a player - you shouldn't need an abundance of time to visualize the play that is being called. At the same time, there shouldn't be chaos out there either. I think it's a little bit of both. Josh is not fully prepared at this stage in his career, but the coaches need to give the players a chance to execute.

They are and it sucks but you can't have coaches throwing players under the bus and players throwing coaches under the bus, THAT'S FOR US EXPERTS HERE ON ALLBUFFS!

I like josh smith, I think he should be getting 7 receptions a game but he needs to step his game up too. Fumbled or bobbled punts and kickoffs, dropped passes.

His route running isn't the best from what the coaches hint on and others here.

Maclin is a "good" wr and athlete. Josh has all the potential and shows flashes, he's still learning and he'll get there.

I think Josh is a great player. I just wish he'd keep it in house.

Blame should go out to both the players, and coaches for sure.

I think the lack of talent in the WR corps has hurt Josh big time. I think the opposing DC's have been focusing on Josh. Which is killing us. Especially without Simas. I'm not saying he'd be a cure all. But it'd be nice to have him on the field. He'd certainly take some heat off of Josh.

I blame you for feeding the flames:smile2:

Meanwhile, hippo and mohler played very well and we got the te involved somewhat.

It's been eerily(sp?) quiet around here. I don't want this thread to turn into a flame fest, but I'd like to hear other opinions on this issue.

I get fired up easy, especially with these things. I don't think Hawk should suspend JFly or Scott. But some kind of discipline should be handed down.

Maybe HawkLove is correct, maybe they were taken out of context, but plenty of players talk to the media and don't have these kind of stories come out the following day.

Kyle said he'd try to post the audio from the interview over on Scout, to improve the context and intonation of J-Fly's quotes.

Can we say conflict of interest?

The real butthole in all of this points to Kyle. He seems like he wanted to write a sensationalist article to get everyone fired up or to have an inside scoop on the uncle/nephew Jfly/DS combo or to explain why the team can't move the ball. Maybe a little bit of all 3, I don't know.

J-Fly and DS did not handle the situation well, but they are still trying to handle the media. They have to keep stuff like this in-house though because airing it out in the media is not good for anyone involved with the program (even us fans). This is why it sucks that we are missing senior leadership on offense right now (at the skill positions, at least) to keep these guys in check. It'd also be nice to have more talent on the team in general so we don't have ego problems (as if they ever go away w/18-22 year olds ) as the best players would have good enough competition to know that they can be replaced and there isn't a (big) drop off in talent.

In the end, I hope Hawk puts DS and Smith off limits to the media, or at the very least Kyle, for the rest of the season.

Oh, and **** Scout. This type of **** will never get me to become a premium member. EVER.

Guess what? THEY'RE RIGHT!

Give DS the ball. Jesus christ - it's not rocket science. He is outstandingly talented and for some STUPID coaching reasons he is only touching the ball 10 times a game maximum.

Josh Smith is the *only* legitimate receiving threat on this team. I don't care if he fumbles or drops occasionally. He will learn and get better. Throw him the damn ball.

Not using the two best players on your offense is one other sure-fire way the coaching staff has found to lose -- and it's not as if they haven't found other ways to lose either.

:rolleyes::rolleyes:

Yes, Scott has clearly outplayed Speedy thus far. Why the hell was the staff giving that short guy so many carries? Can't they see Scott is so much better?

As far as Smith goes, he is a big time talent, but he is careless with the ball. His fumbles are far too frequent, especially for a team that really cannot afford to squander any possessions within a game. Plus, I urge all of you to watch Smith running routes every once in a while during the game. He still has major work to do in that department.
