Just heard on Rivals Radio that our old friend Gary Barnett is a distinct possibility for the head coaching spot at Iowa State. Wow this would be very interesting.

Discussed elsewhere on the board. Others observing the fact he would be reunited with Bitsy "you know, that term of endearment" Hoffman who is now Provost of Old Boy Club Prevention at ISU.

Barnett doesn't have the recruiting gumption to get that program turned around.
What's next? Callahan back to Nebraska?

I think ISU could do a lot worse, and GB wouldn't necessarily have to be a lights out recruiter. It could be the ideal job for him in a lot of ways. He wouldn't have to spend time chasing 4's and 5's since ISU doesn't get those players anyway.
IMO, Barnett's strength as a coach is the ability to take "average" players and meld them to his system and get them to play fairly well together. He wouldn't win any Big 12 championships at ISU, but he could make them the kind of team that would be a thorn in everyone else's side, and in Ames if you win 7 or 8 a year you'll keep the locals happy for quite awhile.
7 or 8 games a year would make them happy for a very long while. They'd probably crown you king there.

After a very few years of 7 or 8 my guess is they will want more.
That would ****ing rock.
First Snyder, now Barnett? What is this - old home week?
What's next? Callahan back to Nebraska? On second thought .....
Bring on Gary! :drink2:
:gobuffs:
Think so? I thought he was still on life support until the Big 12 Championship game....Aside from the fact that he'd be back with Bitsy, an additional piece of irony would be that he'd be coaching in the very spot where his career at CU was murdered.
Personally I think that ISU is a graveyard for coaches unless they move the campus out of Ames.

You are right....I remember the pain of that game very well...I think...was it not delayed because of weather?not to speak for sacky but, i think his point was, that is where his demise as CU's head coach began. prior to the ISU game the Buffs were 7-2 with two games left to play. ISU was more than a winnable game as was knu. its then followed up by the 30-3 beating by knu at home. then the BXII CG.
now, you are probably right. had he won the B12CG, he would have lasted but, that was a long shot at best and everyone knew that. had CU beaten ISU and knu and finished 9-2, my guess is that there would have never been a 70-3, still a loss, and GB would have lasted another year. the Buffs would have gotten a fairly good bowl bid and that would have helped too.
no matter. the cold he caught that led to his death as CU's head coach was caught vs ISU.

I do know that the game was not on national TV, because I remember swearing profusely at my computer....I guess that is better than the crying during the Nebraska and Texas games in the following weeks....that im not sure of. i remember talking to lb about the weather at an ISU game on this board but, im not sure what year that was. it may have been the same year.
maybe lb will remember...

Yes, there were warnings of tornados and I was watching the game at a restaurant in Fort Collins with some friends and we just got hassled by CSU fans and **** and we ended up leaving and it was all downhill from there and I vividly remember Klatts interception on a screen pass to a Dlineman that went for 6 to seal the deal
