.... All-2008 red-shirt line v. All-unavailable in 2008 line.
My personal favorite: All Colorado high school offensive line:
OT - Ryan Miller (Littleton)
OG - Bryce Givens (Mullen)
C - Evan Eastburn (Fairview)
OG - Jack Harris (Chaparrel)
OT - Nate Solder (Buena Vista)
TE - Riar Geer (Fruita)
(It would be great to see all of these local players on the field against CSU, the team which signed only one Colorado high school recruit this year)
All-unavailable in 2008 - for most if not all of the season (injury/status for spring):
OT - Ryan Miller (broken leg / full go)
OG - Maxwell Tuioti-Marinier (knee / limited)
C - Mike Iltis (knee / limited)
OG - Blake Behrens (shoulder / limited)
OT - Sione Tau (suspended in 2008)
TE - Luke Walters (leg / out for spring)
All-redshirt in 2008
OT - Bryce Givens (redshirt freshman)
OG - Mike Iltis (redshirt freshman/medical)
C - Evan Eastburn (redshirt - transfer)
OG - Maxwell Tuioti-Mariner (redshirt - medical)
OT - Ryan Miller (redshirt - medical)
TE - Ryan Wallace (redshirt freshman)
I'll be the first to admit that I have no way of objectively judging the performance of an offensive lineman. Yes, I can look at the obvious (rushing yardage, sacks allowed), and pour over the weekly offensive line grades (which are as much a mystery to me as the vaunted "passing efficiency" statistic). What I do know, though, is that having this huge stockpile of talent bodes well for the future.
What was it - all of two years ago when the spring game was a series of seven-on-seven drills because the Buffs did not have enough healthy offensive lineman to conduct a full scrimmage?
We've come a long way! Welcome, Denver Johnson - pick your best five, eight, or ten. Coach 'em up, and dominate!
Go Buffs!
