Jordan James ready to blow up

Corona (Calif.) is one of the hidden gems out West and annually puts out two or three high Division I prospects each year. Last year's top player was offensive lineman Max Tuioti-Mariner, who despite missing his entire senior year with a torn ACL is starting at right guard for Colorado in this his true freshman season.

According to Panthers head coach John Brandom, the school has another player in the junior class who he expects to be the same instant impact player as Tuioti-Mariner.

ESPNU 150 Watch List running back Jordan James earned all-state underclass honors as a sophomore after rushing for 1,406 yards and 15 touchdowns, and he's started fast this year as well.

West Region Football Player of the Week

Jordan James (Corona, Calif.) As a sophomore last year, James was named a running back on the CalHiSports.com all-state underclass team. He could be in line for even bigger honors this season. The 5-10, 185-pound junior racked up 391 yards on 30 carries and scored four touchdowns as Corona beat Chino 30-16 on Friday. He has totaled more than 800 yards rushing for the season in just three games.

Re: '10 CA RB Jordan James

James favors three
California is loaded with running backs next year and one player who has seen his stock soar in recent weeks is Corona's (Calif.) Jordon James. The running back said three schools stand out right now.

James only played in five games last season but was leading the state in rushing at the time with 1,135 yards and 11 touchdowns. He's an explosive back and one of the true home run hitters in the entire country.

Oregon and Cal recently offered scholarships joining early offers from Stanford, Duke, Colorado and Arizona.

"Right now, my top three are Colorado, Arizona and Cal," James said. "I'm going to camp with Colorado and I also plan to take my official visits during the football season.

"I'm not sure if I'll take all five but I know I want to visit those three schools for sure. Right now, I'm just working out like crazy and trying to get my speed back. I'm doing a lot of agility work, plyometrics and some weight training as well."

Academically, James is carrying a 3.6 GPA and will attend the SoCal NIKE Camp in April.

Recruiters wish they all could be California running backs
By Jeremy Crabtree, Rivals.com

....
Then there is Jordon James of Corona High. In the end, James, a 5-10, 190-pounder, could end up rivaling Jones for the top spot in the state. His name hasn't been mentioned as much as some of his peers, but the college coaches know him. He has offers from Arizona, California, Colorado, Duke, Oregon, Stanford, Tennessee and Washington. That's not bad for a player who missed a big portion of his junior season because of a broken arm suffered in the first half of the fifth game of the season. At the time, James was leading the state in rushing, and he finished with 1,135 yards and 10 touchdowns in only four and a half games.

"Jordon has everything you could want in a running back," Corona coach John Brandom said. "He's fast, strong, cuts on a dime, runs with power and can score every time he touches the ball. He's explosive, he can accelerate and has great vision.

"I can't think of one negative thing about Jordon. He has outstanding character, and he's a great student, too. He's a five-star if there ever was one."

Arizona State offered Corona, Calif. teammates Jordon James and Demetrius Wright on Tuesday. James is one of the most heavily recruited running backs in the region and Wright, a talented defensive back, has seen his stock soar in recent weeks.

"I think UCLA could be close to offering Jordon too," Corona coach John Brandom said. "I actually thought they offered last week but Jordon said they hadn't yet. Right now, he likes Colorado, Stanford and Arizona a lot."

Re: '10 CA RB Jordan James

I was wondering that myself. Oh well, he seems to really like us so it's all good.

Re: '10 CA RB Jordan James

That picture quality looks like its from the Great Depression era.

Re: '10 CA RB Jordan James

Has an offer from Florida now. Really hope Hagan can reel him in, he might be a top 50 recruit when it is all said and done.

With all the national interest for James, the question is will he stay close to home or leave the West?

"I think Jordon is very intrigued by all the schools he's hearing from but ultimately, I would be a little surprised if he leaves home," Brandom said. "He really likes Colorado, Arizona and Oregon and UCLA jumped in it with their recent offer. The plan is still the same for him. He'll take some of his official visits during the season next year and then commit towards the end of the football season."

We are consistently mentioned in his favorites. I think we have a real good shot here.

Re: '10 CA RB Jordan James

I really like how our RB recruiting is coming along. We seem to be adding a lot of depth and talent to the position. If we can manage to get a 4* or better in each of the next two classes, we'll be in excellent shape for several years to come.

Agreed. Think we'll take at least two RBs in this class, hopefully at least one of the guys we sign is a blue chip. I think we have a good shot at the elite talent is So Cal (at all positions).

I like our RB roster too, but it's kind of a funny comment after a cycle in which we signed no RBs.

Not surprising given what we have on the roster right now. I'd be surprised if a blue chip RB would want to come into a situation where he's got so many guys in front of him. Any time you have 5-6 RB's on your team, you're in good shape at the position. Stewart, Sumler, Scott, Lockridge and Moyd is a good rotation. Any one of those guys can do the job. I think I'd still like to have Polk in that group, but I'll defer to the coaches.

Re: '10 CA RB Jordan James

I find it interesting that in nearly every interview he lists his top 3 as Colorado, Arizona, and Cal...with us in front (usually they go in alphabetical order).

I'm with you on this. I don't make a habit of second guessing the guys that are paid to do the job, but a guy who comes in as a 4* back (one of the top rated in the country) should have the opportunity to strut his stuff. Are Moyd, Nabors, Lockridge and Sumler really better than Polk? And from what I hear the Buffs don't seem to be desperate for help in the secondary.

I do think the timing is good to add another marquee back or two. They'd be coming in as freshmen when Speedy and Scott are juniors.

In just four and half games as a junior, this 2010 Under Armour All-American rushed for more 1,100 yards and 11 touchdowns against very good competition. James was a top rusher in the state prior to breaking his arm. It's almost certain that he would be regarded by most as one of the elite runners in the country had he played an entire season.

From our standpoint, he still is, and his performance Saturday helped back our evaluation. James ran a blazing 4.42 40-yard dash and scored a 4.18 shuttle time, displaying outstanding lateral quicks. What may have impressed us more was his physical stature, power and explosiveness. Our evaluation in February stated the then-180-pound back needed to add size and strength to be a college load-back. Well folks, it looks like he is well on his way. James checked in at a solid 187 pounds and showed a big increase in upper and lower-body thickness.

:wow::wow:

Coach Hagan, please get this kid to Boulder.

Re: '10 CA RB Jordan James

He is a must get. Last summer during my freshman orientation I saw the entire Corona football team in Chey-Ho with Riddle and Collins close by. Good to get him and a talented out of state football team on campus:thumbsup: I hope he liked it.

Re: '10 CA RB Jordan James

Man, what happened here? We were consistently mentioned in his top schools for months and now it looks like he isn't going to visit.http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/blog/index?name=West_Recruiting

Um, we haven't been a winning football team the past few years. Let alone a top team. So it's kinda hard to pull in good recruits. Some kids just want to go to a school that they think they can win a National Championship at. Some can see past that. Like D. Scott, he thinks he can win one here. I hope he is right. In a year or two in might be possible. Hopefully we are on the up.

Thanks Captain Obvious, but we haven't lost any more football games in the last few weeks. We were mentioned in his top teams up until very recently so I am wondering what changed.
