Oregon vs CU

Michael Clay, Diante Jackson, and Cliff Harris were three players that chose the Ducks over the Buffs. I decided to do a little research to find out why.

Location: Diante Jackson – Walnut Creek, California
Michael Clay – San Jose, California
Cliff Harris – Fresno, California

Location probably played a huge reason why they chose Oregon.

Win-losses

Oregon 2000 – 10-2 ...................2000 – 3-8
2001 – 11-1 ...............................2001 – 10-3
2002 – 7-6 ..................................2002 – 9-5
2003 – 8-5 ...................................2003 – 5-7
2004 – 5-6 ..................................2004 – 8-5 ................OREGON
2005 – 10-2 ................................2005 – 7-5................. Brooks 1994 – 9-3
2006 – 7-6.............. Hawkins Era 2006 – 2-10............... Belloti 1995 – 9-3
2007 – 9-4 ..................................2007 – 6-7............................. 1996 – 6-5
2008 – 10-3................................ 2008 – 5-7............................. 1997 – 7-5
1998 – 8-4
1999 – 9-3
In 15 years, Belloti had 14 winning seasons. It wasn’t until his fifth that he achieved double digit wins. Of interest to note, he inherited a program that went 9-3 from than coach Rich Brooks. Hawkins inherited the train wreck that was the Barnett era. Given his starting point, I think Hawkins is doing just fine. Also must point out that the big 12 competition he faces is probably tougher that what Belloti had to deal with it. Nonetheless, Oregon has clearly won more games in the recent past.

Academics

CU Ranking – 77th Oregon – 108th
In state tuition - $7, 278 - $6,291
Out of state tuition - $24, 936 - $19,428

We have em when it comes to academics.

Stadium

Autzen Stadium – Houses 60,000
On October 27, 2007 in a game against USC, the crowd of 59,277 was able to reach a noise level of 127.2 decibels, the loudest ever recorded at a college football gameWikipedia

Folsom Stadium - The largest crowd for a football game was 54,972, when the Buffs played Colorado State on September 3, 2005
X Factors
We have the better mascot, and more scenic campus. On the other hand, they have Nike..thought we do too? They were also the first team to have a state of the arch-in door facility in the pac 10. On the other hand, CU has had a national championship. Its no wonder there’s a tug of war going on. Most side with Oregon for reasons mentioned below.

Conclusion: Location, and better facilities are probably what got recruits thinking Oregon. While the win-loss thing couldn’t have helped, Hawkins is showing a trend that somewhat mirrors Belloti in terms of wins and losses. One can only wonder what CU would be doing if we had the indoor facilities Oregon has. In order to beat Oregon, Hawkins must find a way deal with their superior resources. With Michael Clay, he probably went to Oregon is good part because of the debt chart at LB here in Boulder. With Diante Jackson, it was his parents. With Cliff Harris, who knows. Perhaps this provides insight

We never had a shot at Cliff Harris, not even sure he will end up qualifying. Clay was a heavy Oregon lean for months before he made that decision. Jackson is the one that obviously hurts.

:yeahthat:

I still don't understand why scout never updated the Cliff Harris Profile. We were never really in it for him.

One thing that should start to pay dividends when we're recruiting against Oregon is that we actually run a Pro Style offense. Ducks players haven't translated particularly well to the NFL. I like the idea of Kiesau coming from the Cal system selling recruits on this (assuming we turn the corner on 'o' this year).

you forgot that Oregon has the most ugly a$$ uniforms in college football and CU has some pretty sweet uni's

Oregon is the Sara Jessica Parker of college football

Except for the fact many recruits view Oregon's unis as a positive...

Kids like gear, and fashion. Plus they know they'll get brand new stuff every year.
